Vodafone don't want my custom

11 months into my 12 month anytime 275 contract (35PM)
I thought I'd phone for a pac code to see what was on offer.I was asked what I was leaving for and I quoted the O2 online offer of SE w810i,1000 xnet mins and 150 texts. After a laugh the guy from vodafone said that there is no way they would try to match such a good offer and would send out the pac code.

So sat there dumbstruck as they didn't even attempt to make any offer I waited a couple of hours and tried again making the excuse that I needed the address foe my letter to end contract.

Again asked why would I want to leave vodafone? so quoted the o2 offer and the guy said thats no problem he could do that for me great I said!! He then asked was I sure the phone was just for off peak use as my records show a lot of peak calls.I pointed out that the O2 offer is for anytime minutes to be told by the guy at vodafone that I didn't know what I was talking about and the best I could hope for was a free W810i on my current package at the same price.
I then pointed him to his own website that offers 500 anytime minutes and 100 texts for £35 a month for 18 months to be told that was just for new customers and there was no way I'd get it.
As my bill is usually between £40 and £60 I don't consider myself to be a low use customer but guess I'm wrong

O2 here I come
vodafone U stink

Rant over

I would write in to cancel your vodafone contract. The retentions department would then call you up and offer you a much better deal. 1 year ago I got the K750i (new at that time) on anytime 100 mins + 50 txt for £12 a month. Phone was free. The upgrades department are not powered to offer you great deals but the retentions dept can work wonders.

Write to the CEO expressing your surprise and disappointment that Vodaphone are unwilling to even try to keep your business.

    You may be surprised.....

It's probably singlepoint you are talking to as they do most of the vodaphone sevice provision. Seriously, they don't care about retaining your business unless you meet a certain profit margin on your monthly bill. It's a nice little computer package that they look at that tells them exactly how far to stretch to keep you - for example, we had a businessman phone up who had lost his phone mid contract, with £800 a month bills, sent him out a brand new top of the range phone free on next day delivery without him even asking if it would cost him anything. On the other end of the scale, told not to even credit people for bad customer service if their bills were under £20 a month as we wouldn't want to retain them after 12 months anyway.

Sales are even more ruthless than Customer Services lol!

What you will find, is that the retention team have different sales margins for deals, which is why they are able to offer better deals than the normal upgrade teams. However, this is no guarentee that they will do a deal that will come close to matching a new contract elsewhere as the new contract market is very competative on O2, Orange and 3. It all depends on what margins they set for loss leading v the % of the market share they want to target at the moment. If vodaphone have fallen back to wanting to retain profitable business only rather than throw out loss-leader deals, then you'll get nothing great.

If they indicate that you aren't really a valued customer (which I think thye have) then you are best of pac-ing elsewhere for whatever deal suits you.

If you do, you might get a nicer response if you spell the company name with it's F: vodafone.

Don't know why, it just is.
  • The OP shouldn't be disheartened - at a monthly spend of £40-£60 he should expect to receive a call from Vodafone's Outbound team over the next few days - they have much more leeway to negotiate with the customer than the upgrade team do.

For the record, I was on £25/month and got a call back a day or so later - a bit of bartering secured a reduction in the price of my tariff to £19/month and a free W900i on a 12 month extension.

My current allowance is 400 X-Net Anytime mins + 50 texts.

Are you sure its anytime? The only one i can find on the o2 website that matches 100minutes and 150 texts is off peak only.

Note the small print on the w810i page:
1 - Number of included minutes within your bundle, these can be used either Anytime or Offpeak depending on your tariff. Included calls are to any network including O2 and landlines.

and the tarriffs on this page:
    http://shop.o2.co.uk/shop/choosetariffs

Feel free to correct me if i'm wrong... cos i'm after a decent 810i on o2 anytime offer and can't find one...
    stay lucky!
    Steve.

I'd agree with tomS, the smallprint note is ambiguous but the tariff is only for offpeak so unlikely that Vodafone would bother matching as you've misinterpreted. Can only try ringing back with something comparable to see if they match it instead

I checked with my local O2 store to be told that they were anytime minutes.
Also emailed customer services to enquire but waiting for a reply.

    200 anytime minutes and 150 texts £25
    400 anytime minutes and 150 texts £30
    800 anytime minutes and 150 texts £40
    1000 'anytime' minutes and 150 texts £25

doesn't look right does it, they may be anytime to O2 and/or landlines but it isn't anytime and crossnet, get them to check again and provide some writen proof, without that you won't be able to use it as a bargaining tool as they won't believe you as it's literally 'too good to be true'
