Taxing a car near the end of the month?
Hi just a quickie...
If i was to apply for car tax today (28th) would it give me the next few days or should i wait til 1st November?
Don't want to lose almost a month just for the sake of keeping it off-road a few days!
The car has no tax at present, it ran out end of Sept i think.

These days you either have to tax the car or declare it off road (SORN).
Just not buying the tax is not an option.
I would SORN it very quickly... before you get a fine for no tax.
Move it off road and apply for a tax disc starting on 01 Nov.0 -
I know, it is off road. I have just bought it tonight!
Thanks i will keep it off road and wait it out, seems silly that i would lose a month considering i need to wait for the actual disc to get here since you have to display the thing  Grr.0 -
You can (or could) buy weeks of tax. Last car my folks bought was registered end of the month (25th ish) and dealer bought 12 months plus 1 weeks tax. I think it can only be done at Central Offices mind.0

Hmm i'm just thinking, to get a disc at the PO i need the logbook and MOT cert, correct?
Can i do this even if the logbook isn't in my name? I've got the logbook here to send away. But won't get it back in time for the 1st so should i wait?0 -

How do you keep it SORN? Can a car still be parked in a parking space/bay near home?0 -

I think you have to have the original "Certificate of Insurance" from the insurer.0 -

It depends on your parking space/bay.
Is it part of the highway?
