Hi Louba - I have about 16 books listed on GM, 1 sold but the rest have been on there for what feels like FOREVER :( I periodically open both the GM and Amaz*n pages, and see whether I could hypothetically get more than 1p on A for them...it's a great idea but I think when people see they can get the same book for 1p+postage on A, they tend not to buy the same thing for £3.75 on GM (well, I certainly wouldn't!!)

Good luck with the running :)
  • Hi Louba, well done on all the progress so far!!!

I do meal planning too. It really does save so much money. BTW if you are evr stuck with cooking apples again try this:

It is so nice and easy to make but probably wouldn't help towards your goal to run a marathon LOL.

I use Green Metropolis. I just list all the books I have read and don't mind letting go. I've only ever had about 10ish sales though in just over a year but then I don't have a lot on :)

I'll follow your progress; good luck x

Ohh, need to check that out. I've only ever run 10ks before although I have walked a marathon - any help at the moment would be great as I'm starting to realise what I've taken on!

Had a lovely weekend seeing friends and family and it turn out not quite as expensive as I thought.........largely on account of my having had too much wine on Friday night and not much feeling like drinking for the rest of the weekend:rolleyes:. I should really know better!

I've uncovered a few unforseen expenses this month which might mean that I have to rethink what goes to saving. In any other month it would be fine but we seem to have loads of things on in November. As we're in a new city we're trying to get out and meet people and loads of things seem to be happening this month. Should be fun anyway :D

On the advice of the lovely people on the running thread I've starrted to up my miles, walking first sooooooo I walked to work this morning! now I'm feeling quite virtuous and very rosy cheeked. If I can keep it up a few times a week I should help my training and get my fuel costs down :) It's about 3.5 miles each way ...and its freezing here!

Tonight's task is to complete the consent to let form for my flat and get it posted. if its accepted it should mean that the lending on that flat isn't taken into consideration if we move. It's a short term solution but should give us a little flexibility.

I saw a lovely house advertised yesterday but after lots of thinking about what it would need done to it we decided that really couldn't afford it. Ideally it would have needed an extension at the back but we wouldn't have been able to do that straight away which would have meant putting in a new kitchen the destroying it when we finally got to do the extension which just seems silly.

I think I need to get all property websites blocked on my PC!

Consent to let form done! Fingers crossed it all goes through ok. The adviser did say that in a worst case scenario they could refuse and ask for the full amount to be repaid  fortunately she didn't seem to think that was very likely though!

I talked myself out of walking into work this morning...terrible excuse! I have to go to Norway for work tomorrow first thing in the morning and might have to take papers home tonight and of course they would be too heavy to carry  So much for reducing fuel consumption. Oh dear - I guess I'll just need to go for a long walk when I get home tonight.

OH has discovered that he can borrow a fair bit back from one of his existing properties if we needed the money to buy somewhere but if at all possible I would rather not have to do that. It's nice to have a fall back plan though :)

One of the big things we had planned for this week has fallen through so I'm going to be very very good and transfer the money I had set aside for that to my credit card - there's about £130 pounds to come off next month and if I can cover it now then I don't have to reduce the savings to cover it next month :A.

So for today's small challenge.......go for a walk tonight and get to bed early - I need to have left for the airport by 5.40

Feeling quite pleased with myself as I made myself go out for a walk in the rain and took the recycling out while I was at it :A
I saw another house I liked today so now I need to see just how patient I can be! We don't yet have a big enough deposit but if we time it properly then we would be Ok. iT's been on the market for a while so the plan is to wait until the end of the month.if it's still on then we'll go and see it, if it's not then it wasn't meant to be  If it is and we like it and I find lots of patience we wait until late Decemeber to make an offer with a March entry date by which time we should have our deposit. All very well in theory.........I'll keep you posted on project lets be patient!!
No challenges for tomorrow as I'm away all day :)

Very sleepy tonight as I was up at 5 for a flight this morning, arg, I am rubbish at mornings!

We're hoping to do a car boot sale next weekend so I need to do a good rummage through all my things to see what should go. I thought I would also dig out all the clothes that need fixed and try and do something with them too. Should increase my wardrobe size! There has been a slow trickle of things selling on Amazon so I'm quite pleased I put stuff on - not alot of money but it still all helps :)

I've signed up for the 100 day challenge and promised to cut out unnecessary car journeys until 19 February.......I'm doing well so far as I haven't filled up the car at all this month. I'm hoping that the dual goals of cost savings and fitmess will help me stick to it.

I haven't signe dup for the groceries challenge as I wasn't too sure what to aim for but we're doing pretty well so far this month at about £50. I should ahve enough meat for most of the month so there shouldn't be too much more to spend. Both OH and I take our lunch to work and I've also found that meal planning really works even if its is just because I don't pop into the shops for one thing and come back with lots of other stuff :)

Next two challenges are to pull out everything for the car boot sale and make another big pile for things needing fixed...........oh and hope I don't get them mixed up.

The only other big challenge is not to buy anything I don't need! I'm really pretty good at that at the moment because I've got a clear goal but my resolution is waivering over a Christmas party dress............I'm sure I don't need it as I have a couple of lovely things I could wear at Christmas. Repeat after me, I don't need the beautiful party frock......How ridiculous, I'm putting off getting my hair done so i don't have to dent the savings plan yet I'm thinking about a totally frivolous (ahem - fabulous!) frock
