    2) Have been very worried about my mum recently. She found a few lumps but first went into denial then refused to go to the doctors because she was "scared in case it was something serious". Her mum died of breast cancer aged 66 and mum is 65... It ended up with me being extremely bossy with her on the phone yesterday then again this morning, basically telling her that I would inform her sister/my sister/anyone else I could think of if she didn't get on and make a Dr's appointment. She went this afternoon and her lumps are "fatty lumps" and nothing to worry about.

That's great news Acey, it must be a load of your (and your Mum's) minds. :)

Well done Jo for being under budget, a good feeling. I shan't this month but only a little over, nothing too drastic. The drumsticks probably cost less that a real KFC so not too non-OS ;)S x

Just about to tuck into them for lunch! :D

Thank you all for your kind wishes. My friend has decided to return to work next week as she needs some normality in her life so will see how she goes but she knows that we are all here for her. Reading all the pleasures for the last couple of days really does help to lift my spirits so even though I have felt very down there have been some pleasures.

    1. Lots of hugs off OH and just appreciating each other and what we have.
    2. My parents still on a high from Friday. Mum can't stop talking about what a lovely time they had.
    3. Food shopping coming in at less than 1/2 the weekly budget thanks to all the bargains I managed to get combined with all the goodies stock piled in the freezer
    4. One of the directors who works near my desk bought me and his PA lunch yesterday as a thank you for helping him with some work.
    5. Found a £10 voucher in the middle of an empty street

Hugs to all who need them

    My 5 for yesterday:
    - Filling the house with the smell of freshly baked bread, Mmmmm.
    - Finally making room in the freezer by using up some bulky things that have been in there for far too long.
    - Another 1lbs weightloss!!! (I am putting it down to the fact it has been too hot to eat anything stodgy!)
    - Photos arrived that I ordered online, so had a good look through those and put some aside for each of our parents.
    - Spending some time going over mortgage stuff with DH. It sounds boring, but we have decided that once credit card is paid off, hopefully in the next few months, we are going to overpay are mortgage as much as possible. We discovered that if we overpay with all our spare cash each month, we could be mortgage free in 8 years! Or we could have a deposit for that dream home...:D

    My 5 for today:
    - Went to the shops this morning and managed to buy only essential items, and the queue in the Post office wasn't as bad as usual either.
    - Made some banana bread with some black, ready-for-the-bin bananas.
    - Getting all the bedding washed and dried.
    - Finding some new recipes to try, tonight it will be Delia's Basque Chicken.
    - DH having a good job that he enjoys. He found out today that the office within the civil service he used to work for is going to be closed. DH got a lot of grief from his parents for leaving his career in the civil service as "it was a job for life" etc, but it seems now it was a good thing that he got out when he did.

    Evening all,

Caterina - I am so pleased that you are feeling more positive about work. No wonder you were fed up if they weren't using your abilities. Congratulations, especially for speaking up for yourself.

Tealady - oohh... £10... where was the voucher for?

Sparrer - did you get the rain this evening? and yesterday? I now always wonder when we get rain if you are getting some too!

    1) Made about £35 on eBay last night. I just hope everyone turns up to claim everything! I have a few more things finishing tonight so hopefully one or two of them will sell too.

    2) Really lovely evening with my colleague J who is a single mum. Her daughter is with her dad this week so J and I decided to go for something to eat and then to the movies. We went to see Toy Story 3 in 3D which was so good. I definitely had a lump in my throat on several occassions! The evening was made even better by our using a £10 voucher for dinner and 241 Orange Wednesday tickets.

    3) Doughnut samples...

    4) Popping into Mr A and only getting what I need (even if that was a bottle of vodka!)

    5) I have spent the last 2 days at work on a paper which I wasn't asked to do but thought it would be useful. As it turns out this afternoon I received a desperate email pleading with all and sundry for the information... so I was able to reply straight away. So for once using my own initiative for scheduling my work paid off.

    Night night all...

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

    Evening all.

Ladyhawk - that was good planning with your work paper - don't you love it when a plan comes together? ;)

mollythewestie - well done on losing more weight. :T You couldn't send the weightloss fairy in my direction, could? ;)

Tealady - very well done on finding that voucher - very nice indeed! :j Best wishes to your friend for her return to work.

Caterina - that's great news about your job - they sound like really nice people to make so much effort to make you feel happier there. I hope it all works out for you.

funkymonkey - happy birthday for tomorrow! smiley-greet006.gif And good luck to you and your plants on surviving The Attack of the Pumpkin. ;)

ampersand - I hope you got that problem with the bank sorted out. And lol at your number 3 - I had images of trying to dig up people living in a shared house! :)

sparrer - it sounds like you had a lovely lazy day yesterday - I hope today was just as good.

Acey - that's great news about your mum. It must be such a relief all round to know everything's OK.

Patchwork Quilt - well done on refusing cake - you're obviously stronger willed than I am. :o HM cake is definitely nicer though, isn't it?

Jo_Rourke - I hope your 'Hump Day' was OK. (And I know I've got a dirty mind, but that phrase always sounds rather rude to me. ;):o)

wogglemaker - I hope you've felt a bit better today. Good on your DD for helping out - I hope it helps you to know that's all taken care of now.
    ********************
    My five for today:

    1) My cat slept for the whole of last night without waking me up once to beg for food / ask to go out / practice his singing skills - bliss! smiley-sleep011.gif

    2) It's been a lovely sunny day in Portsmouth, without any of the nasty mugginess we've had recently.

    3) Received a cheque from Lakeland refunding me for some clips I'd bought which don't work - I posted a review on their website late last week, and they responded within an hour offering my money back - you still can't beat Lakeland for customer service! :T (I mentioned this to my dad last time I spoke to him, and he said "oh, I bought those clips too - useless, aren't they?'. What a shame we didn't have that conversation a bit earlier - we would have saved ourselves some money!)

    4) Got a bargain in my local shop - a 500g bag of pasta was 97p, but right by the tills were some 1kg bags on offer for £1 - I spotted them just in time. :)

    5) My chilli plant has half a dozen weeny chillis on it, and my pepper plants have flower buds on them. It looks like I'm going to be spending my autumn drying / pickling / preserving my home grown veg - :j is all I can say! :D

    Have a pleasant evening, all.
Back after a very long break!

    and their beds, ampersand? ;)
for someone who's low on food the lunch sounds gorgeous funkymonkey. Many Happy Returns of your 21st birthday :bdaycake:...4 returns so far, I think :D

Sounds like things at work will work (terrible pun) for you, with luck Caterina. I really hope you get more satisfaction than you have so far

So happy for you that the weekend went so well tealady, and your parents had such a good party. Pleased the director showed his appreciation - now you know there is such a thing as a free lunch!

What a marvellous thought woggle, that you could be mortgage free so soon. Will keep everything x'd it goes your way

No rain Ladyhawk, sun this morning then very dark clouds and quite a strong wind but that was all. Well done on the ebay sales, one day I'll learn how to do it too. Hope the buyers turned up

Congrats on the pasta find CCP, that was quite a bargain. Lol at your cat practising his singing...a dawn chorus?

    My 5

    1. nsd
    2. Minimal chores and pottering in the garden - well I did give the house a thorough clean last week in prep for DM's visit, she's a bit of a ledge wiper
    3. Delish cheeses and fois gras from Paris for lunch
    4. DS informed me he's moved out of the house he was sharing with his partner. Sorry, I know that shouldn't be a pleasure, but...:o. Hopefully he can get on with his life now
    5. Cut my birthday cards down with pinking shears to make 17 gift tags, and saved 8 envelopes which I can reuse by putting sticky labels over my name

    Night night, sweet dreams

Now I really want cheese and foie gras....but I have a baked potato for lunch - not quite the same!! Oh well, I will just imagine :D

That is amazing about your mortgage Molly! :j 8 years isn't that long when you think about it! I am starting to overpay into my mortgage for the flat I rent out at home in NI - but at the moment it is v restricted because of the mortgage deal I have - I can only overpay by £1000 per calendar year. Our mortgage on our home in London is a lot more flexible, so we will try and make some payments into that as well.

One more wee question - what is your recipe for banana bread, I would love to try and make it. :)

That is brill! Where was the voucher for, Tealady? Hope your friend is doing okay at work, I think that the distraction will be good too, but it is great that she has you and your other colleagues who are there to support her when she has wobbles. Hope you are okay too.
