I'm trying not to mention the rugby. Angry doesn't come in to it. Corruption, methinks?
What did make me chuckle with delight was this sentence from Clive James- thank you, Ampersand.
"...a new chemo drug, which I might as well call Pill X – its real name sounds like the result of falling accidentally on the keyboard of an ancient Greek typewriter –"x 1000
What gifts, and how wonderful that they are still being given.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
mcc - you need to look over at that RWC Thread, too.
Catharsis? not yet, but spleen vent, you bet.

Pleasures for today (Monday):
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Work not too bad.
3) £95 refund for car tax that left bank account as a direct debit after I sold the old car.
4) Did the charity shops in town and got an M and S cardigan.
5) Did some cleaning at last! All floors steam mopped downstairs and a bathroom clean plus 2 loads of washing and some ironing.
6) Smaller son's carton of orange juice had exploded in his school bag :-/ but someone kindly put it all in a plastic bag for him. Bag has gone through the washing machine now and all pencils etc have been washed in the sink and dried (along with books) over the stove.
7) In bed with 2 hwb now and may listen to Just a Minute.
8) Nearly forgot! Don't have to work on the training day so will have an extra day off after half term.0 -
Look at the day. Is Tuesday. One day closer to Thursday and home.
Inn the wobbleade emporium with fresh cooked food last eve, BoP feasted on fresh Ham Egg Chips. Not that carp in the chain place, but freshly cooked. Place was packed and a good find, just south of SparraLands.
BoP rubs his Tum.
Pleasure this weekend is the steaming of Christmas Pudding and cake. LovLee.
:heartpuls to the needy. And always think, avoid the emporiums evil tash. No place in this world.0 -
1) Had a YS smoked salmon and YS crayfish baguette each for lunch today, oh my.....sooooogooooodddd!!!
2) Golden day of blue sky and sunshine, the last before the rain comes I think so enjoying it to the full.
3) Just taken Mollie the collie for a walk across the common, a bonus day of having her with us as we didn't think we were needed, lovely!
4) Made a batch of quince jelly this morning, cooked them yesterday and dripped them through the jelly bag overnight. It is the most beautiful crystal clear pink and so fragrant, we'll open a jar on Christmas morning and remember today and how warm and lovely it was.
5) Hairdresser has pruned my unruly mop of hair and I now no longer look like an unpruned bush, much better state of affairs!0 -
Mrs LW - quince! Glorious scent & yumptious jelly.
LaineyT - "creamy herby mushies on granary toast" - where do I sign up?!
ampersand - Joubert is a *toad* not a newt - Raffles should not risk his digestion thus.
mcculloch - share your delight (thank you &!) at Clive James' medication "real name sounds like the result of falling accidentally on the keyboard of an ancient Greek typewriter".
BoP - play nice. Ampersand in a bate is a rarity, and with a Blasted Neighbour active? Du calme and encore the fresh ham, yum!
Frith - orange juice does respond to Swift intervention but the books will wiggle for a while.
Mhagster - delighted to hear the Haggis pup is recovering, hoping OH's biopsies are swift & restore you to calm & would try to sort you an alibi while you shove Sunday Chap down fresh-soaped steps, just wrong continent...
OS pleasures recently
Oh the smell of bacon on a just-not-frosty morning!
A building has been demolished & in the few patches of bare earth now revealed, I long to throw in seeds. Too cold, I fear. Pity...
[grumble: son has taken off Every Scout Badge from his blanket & is sewing then back on to a design of his devising. With gawky clumsy stitches. His work, his badges, his blanket but oh his sewing - I could weep. Or stamp. Or just accept that it is His.]
Charmed at how relatively gracefully my family accepted I must be with scouts all Saturday & night - our other female leader is ailing & not up to all the rigors - I just hope the lasses' whose expedition it is have a wonderful time! [From the size of the smiles? Oh Yes! May the "girls can't do Expeditions" mutterers find their neckers choke them.]
The lollipopped hazels are stunning in Autumn - black green & gold.
Young teen must have listened at a Dementia Awareness session - we're being observed thoughtfully at times... (My medical notes are already tagged smartphone addict with teens, as I blow the 1st 2 diagnostic questions (of 9) into the long grass.)
Child reveals unexpectedly hairy thighs - cue "curse of the were-bum", howls & peering up at the moon. It is tough being unexpectedly hairy in this family.... [Worse as it goes three generation, with Nan chortling over chicken jokes...]
"Curl up like a shrivelled tea bag - I mean raisin!" - my son's use of the imperative is intriguing...
Got a Bayeux pastiche printed A2 - will keep eldests hands busy for a while - he finds it very soothing. The print shop across from the office can print on A2 on their plotter & so that wild eyed design for a bedspread, full size? £10! I may yet make it!
Crooning over the tread on snow tyres with the vizier of vehicles. Intriguingly his big wagon runs the same wheel size as my car, so he's making very sure I can stop almost as fast as I can realise a misjudgement.
Watching industrial grinding thing turn lump concrete into dust - awed! Then seeing a spaghetti of rebar piled on the far side - obviously it doesn't do reinforcing rods...
Child tossed pizza chunk into the air & caught it in his teeth - I tried to scold him with a seal bark & he responded by trying to balance an onion on his nose...
Noting the smiles & waves addressed to little brother, eldest drawled "you sly dog!" admiringly & very audibly. The lassies chuckled. The little brother gave chase with intent to admonish brother - who "cheated with his long legs" & ran.....
It's dark, it's cold & the car radio has Amy Winehouse singing "Our day will come" before the 7 o'clock news. That's public service broadcasting!
Good to see the tailor plying his tape measure - I can forgo the satisfaction of the recognition & smile & salutation where his professionalism must take precedence.
Cheering my mother on towards getting a my Waitrose card - one's opening near her so I explained about the freebie brews (& how to upgrade) & we discuses bags for life (W's can take tins and fold whereas S's you have to jump on to fold....)
Enjoying the ch-ch-cha ch-ch-cha ch-ch-cha of the train edging up to a signal. I wonder if it seems as peacefully chuckling to those on board?
The first brew of the day. I don't know enough about the Tea Ceremony & lack decades of trained grace, but that first brew has a special meditative contemplative potency that later keep-on-hustling brews lack.
Formally presented with my Wood Beads at the AGM, in front of beavers, cubs, scouts, explorers, parents, siblings, leaders & all the committee! Still massively delighted & simultaneously uncertain I am worthy, but they are twined round my necker and they're mine! (Training completed Some Time Ago, this was the paperwork, & beads, catching up.)
"Rum flavoured beer" - I know the Festive Season will be upon us but still seems odd beyond reason - surely beer is beer flavoured?! The pleasure lies in the pondering How?
Big hugs to all who need them, weather proofing hwbs and warm hats etc likewise (says she from under a homeknitted woolly beanie.)0 -
DfV. Raffles. Newts. One of them is protected. The other is our moggie!0

Good morning from Wednesday , just gone 7.30am. The birds are singing , the air is blessedly cool and damp after some welcome overnight rain. The number one son is coughing and spluttering but is heading out to work. The littlest child is getting reading for school and the water is simmering for her poached egg for breakfast ( I'm a nice mummy when I'm off) , the dog is positioned in the kitchen as food is cooking and is ever hopeful.
OH is using up annual leave and has Wednesday's off so we shall DO something later. Not sure what though as its to be cool and damp. We had thought to get a water taxi from the city but shall save that for a finer day.
Yesterday I did nothing much but I feel I probably needed a day of doing nothing much. It was very hot . Washing and ironing up to date. Snoozette and that was about it.
Received an email from one of my dear, dear friends who has not been the greatest at keeping in touch. I know their life is busy but hey! Mine kind of is too! Yet, I persevered and sent another email with our news .
It was our 5 year anniversary of moving to Australia ....5 whole years !
So many roses blooming in the garden. I think this month here is probably similar to a June/ July in the gardens in UK . So much colour and scent , fabulous!
Right....I'd better get on with day off number 20
