Have felt very down this week. Sons are on the coast and seem a long way away. Smaller son texted me on Sunday to say he has broken his foot - has crutches and an inflatable cast. No info about this from ex husband, needless to say.
A few pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Did lots of batch cutting/cooking. So have bags of diced carrots in the freezer, plus sweet peppers and blanched carrots. On the stove now are 3-4 meals worth of spag bol sauce.
3) Looked round the charity shops. Got a jumper for brother, a lovely Scandinavian cardie for bigger son then (fanfare) some Converse trainers in size 9 that will fit him too!
4) Popped to Sainsburys for last bits (sons home tomorrow).
5) Went swimming with my brother.
6) About to have some of the spag bol for tea except mine will have mushrooms which dare not grace any food that sons might even look at.
7) Builders are coming tomorrow to swap the leaking water tank over.0 -
1. A really dreadful commute home, it took 3 and a half hours, but I didn’t care as it was my last day there for a week, feeling very happy and of course delay repay in full.:p
2.We went to Mr T the first for us in a few months, as no choice as Mr F needs mop heads luckily they were half price, we picked up a few yellow labels but the over crowding for it put me off but we did pick up a half price rotisserie chicken that was dinner today and will be chicken sandwiches for lunch.:D
3.DH is having to have eye drops 4 times a day and I am getting the knack now of putting them in, much to his disgust.;)
4.Watching the sea lions on TV is making me really want to visit Monterey.:)
5. I am off to fill up the caravan fridge and food plan at the same time honest I will move off the sofa I will..:rotfl:0 -
Steady does it, pk. As with all best Martin advice, apply sternly to:

Do You Really Want To? Do You Really Need To? Can You Make Do Without?
YYN needed. Only then, and Not before.....
Day in shape of pear - 1 of &'s 5-a-day - many of late.
1. Up through path, just out back - perfect little lilac-pink cyclamen on tall stalk. nothing else. Whence? How? It's lovely. A little miracle.
2. Poss. moves in echelons far re: person. Increased manipulation now puts person and others at risk. Fingers crossed. Also, aware of person's Spotify fixation, & alerted others to changing ts and cs, heard<r4. Soon to mean shared details, Bank bits mandatory, insecure, easily hackable, no opt-out or cancel option available - excoriated by Clive Anderson.
3. Raspberry jungle sprawl, dragged down by sodden, sated fruit. All picked, frozen, till another day :-) Loads of secondary sprigs now bringing more fruit.
4. Today's write-off day means Big List tmrw. More Spooky ems+spanner in works now. All will be well...à la mère Julian. 1st world nothings....thankyou if you have acted on #32021.
5. Some marvellous reminders - as if any were needed - of Iris Murdoch on The Wireless beeb atm. All of which is why I cheer Armando Ianucci's timely polemic:
http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/aug/26/ministers-want-bbc-to-consider-assisted-suicide-says-armando-ianucci
..and several subsequent.
He's long been another &erson. Adroit, brilliant, rational, funny, polymath, compelling communicator - and likable.
6. hwb last night. Needed it.
7. nsd, npd - although £1 owed to Vicar for eggs. Had & dob49 in 'p', which, despite the honorable coincidence, didn't count as legal tender.
8. More NZ calling to try soon, wait up for. Some emails rcvd after yesterday's. Some progress.

Pleasures for today (Friday, hoorah!)
1) Not a bad sleep. Still feel tired, though.
2) Got phone charger for the car, which will be useful.
3) Drove to NT place (Dudmaston) and it was shut! Why is it shut on Fridays and Saturdays?! Anyway, have learned not to bother with it again!
4) Went to the allotment and dug up a length of potatoes (carrier bagfull) and some onions.
5) Lunch in Sainsburys and got some party rings as requested by smaller son and messaged him a picture of them in the trolley! Got some nice food in for the last week of the holidays.
6) Plumber is here now. The tank going in is a new system (unvented) so we might actually have some water pressure to the hot taps upstairs.
7) Sons back in 28 minutes :-)
8) Had a chat with my neighbour about chopping one of her trees down. She is not against the idea but is going to ask her mum (who owns her house). It is a pine/fir tree and must be twice as high as my house - but only 5 metres away :-/ I worry about it blowing down in a storm and chopping my house in half!
9) Looking forward to Dead Ringers and the Last Leg. Have been amused this week by re-runs of the Fast Show, on iplayer.0 -
12 mins to go now, Frith :-))))))))))))))))))))))))
Loads of Hellos to Plaster Boy and Big Bro and bring on those party ringers.
You're a terrific Mum. Also, please send any excess water pressure here.

1) Lunch out at a garden centre where we got some 'sale' small presents for DD1s birthday next week, her main present is a day at a local museum learning to shoot a Longbow!
2) Got myself a really good waterproof jacket in the sale too, tweed lined and will be warm in the winter.
3) We've just cleared the almost gone over summer plants from the window boxes and big pots outside and refilled them to wait on the Autumn Pansies coming in at out local village nursery.
4) Have spent all afternoon having a end of summer tidy up in the garden, buddelia and next doors overhanging rose have been given haircuts, patio cleared and swept, garden furniture brushed and ready to put away and having found the metal bird feeding station had rusted and snapped in half, I've found places in the clipped buddelia to hang up the feeders so we can see them from the lounge.
5) I made some cauliflower cheese soup for our supper, I like cauliflower cheese soup so I'm happy!0 -
Oh dear BoP you have been in trouble. Had I known you were so desperate for a meal that didn't include bangers I could have recommended several decent places south of Baldock, or even in Baldock itself. If I hadn't been so busy I'd have made you a decent dinner, but you'll just have to get BoPsie to make you a picnic.
Thank you &, the one day convention was last Saturday, went down well I think, then the weekend one starts on Friday.
DD I stayed at the Corinthia Marina with friends when attending a convention 2 years ago, we only had 3 days to see the island afterwards so having been there some years ago I drew up an itinerary which had us all needing a rest when we got home!
1. A meat-free week, my purse is very happy
2. Went to see Sister Act the musical, great fun, imho much better than the film. The theatre gives people over a certain age a good discount and free tea or coffee.
3. Village scarecrow festival, I voted for the one the children at the holiday play club had made. It may not have been the best but it was a super effort from the little ones and was pleased to see it took third prize.
4. Dinner with friends tomorrow so made an apple pie for pudding. There was one apple left over so made an apple dumpling for the older single man who's joining us, to take home. He loves home cooking so hope it goes down well.
5. Swimming twice this week, the second time was free as I'd completed my 10-swim card.

Post gone!
Just popping in ( again!) to say hello!
Worky work weekend , three down and two to go. I'm doing an extra shift as boss is away in UK...have given him a shopping list!
I'd a customer today who is going through radiotherapy, had a chat with him and his wife and then went into my kitchen and had a little sob. Sad that someone else is going through this blasted disease.
Haggis dog seems to be back to normal , he's had some long walks this weekend.
New bedroom furniture from ike@ finally made and filled. Both of us had a pile for Salvos . Also donating a pair of boots that are just not comfortable for me to wear , no matter how much I liove 'em!
Going to see a steam train passing through our station tonight, Melbourne is 180 today! part of the celebrations. However it's past my bedtime!
Do have a good Sunday !0 -
Pleasures for yesterday (Saturday).
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Smaller son very excited to have a letter addressed to him! Pity it was only his consultant who wants to see him following his operation! (Operation never mentioned now, apart from some stitches that won't dissolve. All attention on broken foot and finger).
3) Went to parents' to use their toilet while the plumber was here! Sons played swingball and I had a lettuce from the garden to go in our lunchtime sandwiches.
4) Went swimming with bigger son and my brother. (Little son not up for that yet).
5) Chips from the van for tea.
6) Big clean up started. The contents of the airing cupboard (1.5 x 3m and the only storage in the house) have been piled up in the bedrooms since the hot water tank split so it was lovely to shove them all away again and hoover up!
7) Bigger son and brother went to brother in law's for role playing evening.
8) Smaller son and I watched Casualty which was very sad. :-(
ETA - hot water! It is too hot (hot enough to fill hot water bottles....) but lots of it and it seems to heat up faster than in the 30 year old tank. Smaller son had a proper depth bath, possibly for the first time in his life! It also stayed hot for so many hours, I was worried that it was permanently switched on, but it has cooled this morning.0 -
1) It's NOT raining!!! which means we could go and pick the produce early today from the garden and the allotment.
2) A visit to the local boot fair on a whim was productive and I found the Zebra child a pair of wellingtons in the next size up that he needs, also a sit and ride car and a cookery book too!
3) Lovely skype with DD2 and Zebra who is getting more and more words every time I talk to them.
4) DD2 and Hubs are looking at two houses this weekend, the market has been so slow this month they are worried they will lose their buyer if they can't find something soon, fingers crossed one of these will be what they want and that they are accepted when they make an offer.
5) Opened up a jar of last years marrow and apple chutney, it's so nice I wish I'd made more of it!!!0
