1. Just back from a week away in wonderful Wales very refreshed, a week isn’t long enough…:)
2. Looking at the new flowers out in the garden thriving with butterfly’s and bumbles.
3. Ordered the half yearly animal bulk stock and managed to get £70 off the lot by shopping around and vouchers, enough food and litter to last 6 months.:o
4. Washing hanging on the line and playing with the animals while they “assisted” me.:D
5. A lazy day washing and cooking, a hard life…:)
6. Feeling guilty for ordering some tops on line half price in the sale, so going through my clothes and creating a bin bag full for CS, sneakily creating room as well, and tidied up a fair amount.:o
7. About to finish cooking up a big bowl of spaghetti carbonara with our own veggies in it.:)0 -
It's gone quiet here!
Glad you liked Wales, PK, hope you gave me a wave as you went by.
Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Builders here bright and early. I now have an extractor fan, lots of plasterboarding and a plywood (?) floor ready for lino on top.
3) Did a bit of geocaching locally.
4) Smaller son had been complaining that his feet hurt so we went to the shoe shop and he has grown 1.5 sizes! So new trainers for him, school shoes can wait until nearer the start of term. Bigger son is now a 9H.
5) Went to Ikea after that (more time wasting and toilets!) and bought a few bits and pieces.
6) Stopped at the park half way home to use all the gym equipment that is there.
7) Went swimming with sons and my brother.
8) About to have a big tidy up then we shall be having rye bread, herrings, Swedish cheese etc for tea. :-)
9) Holby City later.
Ooo, and my new car is supposed to be repaired for collection tomorrow....0 -
Chips inn a bucket. Do inns have plates these days?
Short pops inn, as on phone thing.
I may have given the impression recently about things and bits. Well, last election, our LieBore candidate, who lost, was in the pocket of local big business. Now the piper is being called to play the tune. And it makes their pay rise look miserly!
Alas, it has been a lifetimes achievement to get this far, and hard work. Bless all.0 -
Bathroom sounds like its coming along nicely Frith
PK glad to hear you had a nice relaxing holiday
Just coming down from a panic attackso trying to find some pleasures
1. saw a woodpecker in our garden this morning for the first time ever in 18 years of living here. It landed on the upright wooden post that used to have DS's basketball hoop at the top. I think it was a great spotted woodpecker
2. only managed a few hours sleep last night so I finished work early and came home for an afternoon napzonked out for 2 hours but felt better after
3. have cashed in an investment to give to DS to pay for a course he wants to do for a career change. He will be doing it in his spare time and am glad I scrimped and saved to put a bit of money away so I can do this for him. Its his 21st next year so he will have his present early
4. DS has finally moved his suitcase from the hallway without too much nagging ... although it has just migrated to the spare room and hasn't been emptied yet !
5. long chat to friend on phone earlier this evening, we both had a good old moan and set the world to rights :cool:0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗
House sale OCT 2022 = NOW MORTGAGE FREE 🤗
House purchase completed FEB 2023 🥳🍾 Left work. 🤗
Retired at 55 & now living off the equity £10k a year (until pensions start at 60 & 67).

VickyA, what year group are you going to have in September? I'm happy to be staying with year 40 -
Hello kittikins!
Wednesday afternoon, day 6 and just 1 more to to go ( before one tiny day off!)
A milder 13o but windy after a very chilly last few days. Its managed to stay dry so far but the sky is mighty grey outside.
Lovely chats with customers past few days, the majority of nice ones make up for the crazed, miserable ones! ( we have a fair few of them!)
My camellia is flowering, a bit later than other local ones but finally it's flowered, ist very beautiful.
Dropped a pile of old cafe mags off at library and picked up a couple for me.
Have a good day0 -
Since last here, in no chrono order:
1. Hier, bus pass-ed [always appreciated] to town, dropped off ageratina altissima chocolate [striking foliage, flowers promised, magnet for bees and butterflies] to giver of Beth Chatto tkt and discussed futures political.
2. Fresh pulled garlic and bits from Dunkerque to old Uni friend, good slo-mo catch-up. Green tea, adult child's late b'day cake in her garden. She'd sent out for garlic earlier but none was to be had in meagre co-op...all unknown to &, so this arrival was gratifying. Cl!ment Didier, producteur de l'ail, Epinoy, was a great chap and this is his grand'mère's Soupe ê l'ail, which he always has going for everyone to try:
[pour 4 personnes]
À 2l d'eau bouillante, ajouter
- 1 bol d'ail !pluch![80grs env.]
- 350grs de pommes de terre coup!es
- 125grs de carottes rap!es
- sel et poivre
Cuisson termin!e, mixer. Ajouter beurre ou crème à volont!
Mmm-mm. Extra!
3. Call from France. For once & was here. For once fenlandline worked...for a while. then beep-beep-beep and dead. The sea dans le sud is unnaturally warm presently. Canicule is back. Noyades and requins. Var Matin and D!pêche du Midi are full of them. X and Y soon UKing for a month to clear x's Colchester farmhouse and live completely in France.
'When are you coming? Everyone's asking'.
Oh &..... Oh well, we'll meet up.
4. Emporium silverside, rtc bien sûr, removed from freezer and allowed to slowly defrost in fridge over 2 days. Fast heat sealed, then slow-cooker with touch of balsamic, white wine and soy sauce, braised over carrot, celery, bay leaf, garlic, leek. Divine, flavoursome, tender. 2nd repas last night and still 3 servings easily. Beautiful meat.
5. Final scan done. & has all-clear.

Having read this in grauniad, know self to have been v.v. lucky. Teaspoony bump on forehead is prob. permanent, but so...?

Frith - hope new car buckles down and behaves for next umpty years. New bathroom coming up to spec. at last - hope this is via make-good reparation from prev. cowboys.
pk - there's a steam rally somewhere in Fens this w/e, but you probably know that.
mhags - just keep going, you're nearly there and the laundry fund must be racking up nicely again.
kk - that was &'s sort of early up. Have you broken up yet? Your 1st year already! So glad that you kept going through PGCE, with catharsis here, a bit like mhags letting-go diary space.
skint - hugs to you. re:setting world to rights, of late we've realised we're merely identifying the things that need putting right, rather than making them happen. Some nasty years ahead, ingredients already present.
Well done to you and for son.

It was a bit quiet! Quick five then, before I get back to work, not exactly O.S. but you know me by now.
1. Three wins - £25 Az vouchers in a survey draw, £20 of M & S vouchers in an online game instant win (I don't often play these and have never won more than a small prize) and a bottle of cider in the music club raffle.
2. An extraordinary young female singing talent at the Club. 11 years old in body, 40 years old in voice.
3. Some nice freebies to review as usual and some of them left the house too, with grateful recipients.
4. The funeral went very, very well. Beautifully done, we all followed the coffin down the aisle rather than be seated beforehand. Dignified and moving. The refreshments afterwards were in the nicest venue in the local village and were lovely. A chance to exchange memories of a dear friend. There was some humour when one fact was revealed during the eulogy and I thought 'Fancy, I knew A. for nearly 30 years and I didn't know that.' The reason I didn't know that was that it was complete bunkum, someone in the family had given the vicar duff info...
5. New contracts for my job, it's all official. Sigh of relief.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Afternoon all - i seem to be amazingly pants at updating here at the mo....
Ampersand - J'aime le Canicule
Skint - hugs, panic attacks are awful. I have had far fewer since the change of diet, and they haven't been as severe. (low wheat, low sugar)
Pleasures for I don't know how long
1. Wonderful holiday in La Corse and the sud de France, the weather was amazing (that Canicule again ), scenery stunning. Steam trains, canoeing, velo rail, wonderful food,
2. Good trip back for DS and me (Saturday) and OH (yesterday) TGV to Lille / Paris and Eurostar - no hold ups, no problems. DS and i had an amazing lunch in Lille whilst waiting for our Eurostar
3. Back to work - not a pleasure but the pleasure is that although it is a bit pants at the mo, I don't seem to be worrying about it and am, in fact, a bit fed up with the negativity of others
4. I haven't put any weight on. :T
5. Having DD home, she starts work in ice cream town on Monday so we will see less of her than we are this week, but more of her than we do when she is in Sarfend
6. Kondoing - lotsOne car load went on Monday. Another to go today. And you STILL wouldn't know we have done any....
7. Not being bothered that the weather is much cooler / wetter than in France. I am very weather sensitive.
8. Rescuing DDs birthday on Saturday - we didn't arrive home until 8, she had been out with friends but, partly due to rubbish postal service, had been feeling a little forgotten. Spoilt her saturday night (even though all i wanted to do was go to bed <<polishes good mummy halo>>) and then we had another birthday on Sunday.
Laters folks - got a drop off at the chazzer to do.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Hello all
1. Not feeling too fed up that we're still at school til Friday afternoon! Was naughty today and put a film on this afternoon....as a mummy, I don't like the thought of children not learning this week, as a teacher, I can understand why others have been doing it most of the week!
2. Have started to receive really thoughtful cards and presents from children - feel blessed to have been part of their lives this year xx
3. DD is relaxing and enjoying her second week of holidays, lol
4. I had false nails put on on Sunday for a change and they look rather spiffy! (and weren't hideously expensive, thank goodness!!)
5. Glad to be back amongst MSE chums, and as the summer goes on hope to be reading and contributing more here0
