May Raffles be tickling the whiskers of those holding sway today, bop.
Luck you don't need: you are an outstanding man with boxed brownies.
Very best wishes for this arvo.

    1. & has sought help. Y'day, no appts before 12 Aug; today one has come free @15h. Booked. Grateful for this, as 3 pharmacists refused help, all said Dr necessary. & so aware of pressure on Surgery under new gumment exigencies, have apologised in note. There is just no let-up from this throat pain, no real sleep, ear pain - all increasing, no respite. Pse excuse big moan. & grateful for online connection to Surgery. Roll on 15h.

    2. Attended the 22h>23h Reflections and Readings nonetheless. Had own large Church candle and was determined to be present. In the still dark quiet, all 3 elements would have been scarce from this day on 100 years ago, very conscious of earlier readings in the day. The ancient clock is listed, as is the Church, and the steady tock, tock, tock, then the winding release as the hour struck, was a beating heart constant. Had earlier been reading Ivor Gurney too, first known via Uni and a quiet, shy, but brilliant Lecturer whose own book of War Poetry is an excellent introductory reader. Vicar read some of IG, to my surprise: he's not widely thought of in the same canon as Sassoon, Brooke, Owen, Thomas but he definitely belongs there.

    3. Mess up with buses meant 2 cancelled appts hier as 3 roads were successively closed, something Saffron Walden-y. & fortunately had book to read. Lots of Park and Ride charging indignation overheard. &'s essential journeys now start with car under hedge at top of village. John Lewis, aware of traffic chaos. kindly agree to extend freebie date - sth to look forward to.

    4. Gym assessment appt made for tmrw - more loathing but must begin again:-)

    5. Awaiting rtn bus hier, last one of day, soon noticed very slight elderly gent with laboured and hindered movement holding clipboard, seeking signatures. He clearly had suffered some major life limiting crisis himself, but there was something determined and dignified about him. I watched those that waved him on - he could only slowly comply - but saw an attractive young lass look him in the face, give her attention to the board, then sign it. He was methodical, not obsequious, not intrusive either. I wondered if he'd reach us before the bus came. He did. I saw it was for DAFOH, of which grim practice & has been long aware:
    http://www.dafoh.org/
Signed, which I think took the attention of the young ear-phoned lad next to me. He removed them, looked into the face of elderly man, read, signed. Said, 'I'm glad I did that.'

Now, post-shower, going out into sun to see if I can doze a little. Apologies for no easy OS pleasures as such.

pk - lovely to see you posting again. You and ss1000 and MgrMhags can be our new job trio, following Ms kittikins.

    Morning all - well, afternoon.

back at work :( ne'er mind. very quiet here.

Good luck with the interview BoP
What a lovely story re the old gent getting signatures, Ampersand
Marmite - i used to run and quite enjoyed it. Rather knackered up my knees now though. I did the great north run about 4 years ago - was very, very proud of myself. albeit, i did it very slowly
Firth - can picture you all on the steam train and at the engine house :D Your story with your sons says it all about the headline in one of today's papers "we cannot remember but must not forget"
    Hugs for Sparrer

    Yesterday's pleasures - and moans :p

i had, it has to be said, one of those "sod's law" kind of days or Murphy's law if sweary filter is out and about. this may be long

We left hotel at 10, with new suitcases replacing old dead ones. Within 200 yards of hotel wheels on biggest case had already come off. back i march into shop. Shop owner says he doesn't speak english and that the bags have "keine Garantie". Cue one irate English lady speaking in very poor but very LOUD german that "Es ist kaput" and that we had only wheeled them 200m. pleasure #1 is that i got it replaced :T
Got to station, train was in 1minute, no way could i make that so i had a half hour wait. DS and OH went off in the opposite direction. Pleasure #2 is that I didn't cry :T
Got train into Vienna Meidling, connection was 1m from a different platform - so another half hour wait.
Got train to Vienna somewhere else, connection was in 3m from antoher platform so another half hour wait. Great, thinks I, i will have coffee. it was cold. :(
got to airport, booking didn't include baggage - so another 45 euros to pay
pleasure #3, red wine served on flight - woman in front reclined her seat suddenly - whoosh went bottle of wine, knocking over glass of wine - onto the bloke sat next to me  i was shocked and apologetic but also wanted to :rotfl: - because you couldn't make it up.
Landed, passport ereader machine didn't recognise my face, held up queue while lady sorted me out.
went to wrong carousel to collect baggage as there had been a previous BA flight from Vienna - thought bag was lost (was kind of expecting it by then).
Stood in wrong queue for tube ticket - then had to join another.
then struggled to get out of car park - holding up another queue

Pleasure #4 was getting home and a huge hug from DD
Pleasure #5 was despite the empty fridge, we had eggs and cheese so omelette could be had.

All in all it took me 12 hours door to door, for a flight of 2 hours! i worked out that if I'd left the hotel at 5.30, i would have got home at the same time if i'd gone by train. i may consider it next time.

Pleasure #1 for today is that I weigh the same as i did when i left 2 weeks ago
I wanna be in the room where it happens

    Hi all

Hope everyone had a good day.

DD asked for steak so called into Sainsbugs and found sirloin half price at £10/kg

Picked up a left receipt at the self checkout and got another 64 nectar points!

Had an email from Peoples postcode lottery that I won £10 at the weekend. I cancelled last month so must be one of my last tickets.

Didn't run tonight, but I will do tomorrow, thanks for the advice. You're so right.

Had a great day again. Grateful for that and sending good vibes out to all. X

What a journey to get home VJsmum, sounds horrible - glad DD was able to revive you with a nice omelette :) Welcome home x
Congrats on your win supersaver1000, virtual drinks on you tonight then?
Ampersand - PLEASE get well soon xxx

    1. Long but productive day at school - I've printed and laminated my little heart out, and have stuck up the most important things my class needs - the birthday month cakes display, that will be needed so that I remember when to bring out the box of birthday cards for the class.

My favourite ever teacher had a huge cake made of plasticine that came out for everyone's birthday and a ceremonial candle was blown out - even nearly 40 years later, I remember it well :) Before anyone worries that Ms Kittikins is a secret arsonist, being at a catholic school, we have candles in the class for worship purposes, so I'm sure a teensy birthday cake candle will be fine. Also, I want to have fun as well as get them learning hard :) )

    2. My co-teacher and I also got lots of resources ready for the first days/weeks of lessons.

    3. After being a bit stressed inside about the enormity of preparing for the new term, having been in today and achieved so much (here's hoping!), I feel a lot better inside.

    4. Got home with perfect timing for DD to have finished making me a loomband thing present for my keyring :)

    5. Found a tiny lanyard for my co-teacher's memory stick. Like me, she has a phobia (and reality) of losing memory sticks. I am the lanyard queen - have my keys on one, my memory stick on another and my glasses (usually) on a chain around my neck! The consequences of me ever not having these are dire.....

    6. My no carb bread is still scrumptious and hasn't gone stale or even worse, mouldy, after 3 days. Phew!

    7. I shunned the yummy looking chocolate cake in the staff room (polishes halo!). To be fair, it if had been a home-made cake, I may not have been able to resist, but a MrT's one was reasonably simple to decline.

Day 5 of my no sugar in august challenge ....I work in a cafe surrounded by lovely sweet and sugary treats , it was difficult yesterday!
Made a rather lovely macaroni cheese for tea.
Nice chit chat with friend in Sydney on the phone when I came in.
    Early bed!

    Bit tired tonight!

    1) A lie in.

    2) Brother came to play formula one racing on the Wii with sons.

    3) Went for a quick swim.

    4) Tasty sandwiches for lunch.

    5) Took smaller son to put some birthday money in his bank and to spend the rest!

    6) GP appointment for smaller son. GP was lovely as always. Smaller son not very helpful and still refusing an operation. :-/

    7) Haircuts at the barbers! Amazingly, both sons had 2-3 inches of - no fuss and no crying!

    8) Smaller son said he would go to the sweet shop by himself while bigger son was unearthed from under his hair. Going to a shop alone and asking for something is unheard of.

    9) Sons spent an hour or so making some dramatic films outside.

    10) Enjoyed Holby.

Got a scan first thing in the morning so will have to trust sons to sit quietly in the hospital canteen while I am in there. Hmmmm....... All this is because a consultant asked "Are you usually that colour?" A bit rude, I thought, but she convinced herself I look jaundiced.
