Expletives deleted.. I have made two very lengthy and highly reflective posts in Internet Explorer on new lappy that have been lost. That reminded me why I stopped using IE! It just doesn't work with MSE at all. Stuff tweaking it, life's too short. With Opera browser and will download Firefox later.
Firstly, thank you for all yours. Congratulations on new beginnings to those leaving jobs and moving on. Safe journeys and experiences to all those not at home. Wishing strength and comfort to all who feel they need it.
First post lost was a post mostly about me and the other was mostly about my Dad, prompted by Ampersand's book link referencing dark family pasts.
I don't mind that I lost the first post as it was far more about myself than I would normally reveal, and basically it just helped me writing it down. I was reflecting on the need for hyper-vigilance with home security and on how I must really focus on improving my mobility and pain levels, which have been getting better as they do in the warm summer months.
Basically it's a weight thing. Nowt else. I'm overweight and it's so bad for me. Food cannot be a stress reliever or something used to lift mood for me, unless it's low in calories.
The regime's been going well, it needs to be lifelong now though. The sooner I fully acknowledge this the better.
Nothing tastes better than not being in pain and shuffling along with sticks, grasping at handholds.
Losing my Dad's story piqued a bit but I had told it before or how would Ampersand have known?
In summary, Dad was a great bloke in adult life, warm, friendly, energetic, hard working and totally full of the joys of spring who was in the Latvian Legion (Google them if you want to know) aged 17-19 and very, very lucky to survive WW2 and its aftermath. A bright, bright life with the darkest of periods as he stepped into being an adult.
I've had pleasures, post burglary, of course. Music, unexpected windfall - tax credit underpayment - that has paid for new things including new home security measures. Books, freebies, much to give thanks for.
Counting blessings. Last one was elderly netbook dying two days after data all transferred to new laptop. Phew.
Having lost two hours writing into the ether will post this now.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Good evening everyone :hello:
Suddenly this week went super-manic, but can't quite work out why. Ah well, I'm here now! Phew.
My car has developed an impressive rattle when I brake. Thankfully, I've booked it in to be looked at on Monday and I'm even more grateful that I put aside money each month for servicing/repairs however, I suspect that I'll have to also dip into my "new car fund".Best to be safe though!
My pleasures:
1) Breakfast with DH in a local cafe. Gorgeous and (very) extravagant in comparison to my normal bowl of branflakes at home.
2) Dusted and vacuumed the house. Fewer dead flies are hanging around the place now.
3) NPD (don't want to hear that rattle, to be honest).
4) Voucher arrived from a largish supermarket. I complained, via Twitter, about the person who served me having NO idea about customer service. No please, no thank you (not even, "That'll be £2.48, please" just "£2.48), nothing. I am a little embarrassed about the voucher as all I wanted to happen is that the assistant receives a reminder that common courtesy goes along way. Having said that I'm embarrassed, I will spend the voucher.
5) LOADS of strawberries from our plants in the garden. I think I look like a strawberry now.

SSaver fantastic for you also, I am sure you will sweep them off their feet with your motivation. I'm "planning" on taking a little time out hopefully not too long, and will start searching again in a month, it's weird as it's in built to work and work rather than take time.
Sparrer: Hope DM improves so worrying and glad you are ok, drivers out there are just plain unthoughtful and inconsiderate.
Mculloch: A lovely post despite losing the previous and big hugs. I’m a person who has always had to battle weight, winning, losing and everything in between
1-5 A lovely day out at a steam fair with friends and our animals running an event, nice to dodge showers, chat and relax.
6. After, Dh took me for a tour of his home grounds in Kent around some amazing roads, sad to see as a mill had closed the houses that had previously homed staff in were in rack and ruin rather than kept for future.
7. We bought a lovely take away and ate it looking out at a view point.
8. Home and bird feeders re stocked, washing machine on, and animals running riot, they aren’t going to be happy when we flea treat them later:o
9. Fridge is still empty but long life milk and working on the freezer stock now.;)
Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.0 -
Oh mcc - How I empathise re:wretched loss of posts. I didn't know anything about your Dad, but just felt this fine writing/theme/epoch would be one you and bop'd both have engagement with.
Are you able to i-play that Ramblings prog., too? You could find it a good'un. Now, I've always seen you, despite some disability, slender-ish:-) So, let's just say you are and you can carry on from there. Also, pk's right - that's still a lovely post.
Just in:
1. Car seems to have these intermittent dead-as-doorknob moments now, but Ms&Mechanique just fronts up lid, twiddles battery strings and off it goes again....so far. Thank Goodness again this arvo outside The Struggling Share-price Emporium of sparrer and bop opprobrium:-), post-Biblical flooding, Macbeth Witchery, the lot.
2. reverbe 5p under trolley wheel, Mr T, and 1p outside &squat just now...every little etcetera.
3. RAFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Storm gave & good reason to remain listening in car. Saw forked lightning strike by adjacent trolley bay, c.6/8 metres to my left.
4. AlizÉ!:-).........have noted this Niçoise since she took the girls' singles at Roland Garros in 2007. Often a beautiful touch player for whom grass is not a natural or regular surface. This is a cracking victory. AlizÉ= trade wind, seems right. Next meets the young Bouchard - could/should be a cracker too.
5. Well done you, Vicky, on your no.4. I also wait......and wait............and wait[Naicely:-)] until: the Magic Words are uttered/the earmuffs are removed.
A pleasure to read a.n.other and the response.
6. Final &-grown jungle-hay received gladly by neighbour's bunnies.
7. Early-out laundry. Decided, for once, to bring it in, not mega dry, before I went out. So glad now.
8. Did have w8rs free drink after all, having realised changed conditions of £10 spend apply only to free w/e paper, not free hot drinkies. &'s Satdi[sp. bop?]Grauniad, her only purchased paper, actually works better as pts pyramid chez Mr T.

Am now about to WATCH Rafa, might as well call that pleasures 9 - infinity. I'll be shouting lots of 'YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!' and clapping. That's enough self-crimming.

McC - I sympathise re lost posts.
Ampersand - exciting re lightning! Years ago I was walking down Worcester high street in a thunder storm. I heard a colossal bang, ducked, and the lightning went over my head and hit the shop next to me, cutting the power off and leaving the burglar alarm ringing!
Quite a busy day chez Frith.
1) A lie in!
2) Bigger son wanted to go to the barbers (!) He had about an inch off so he can see where he is going now. Apparently, he wants a change from the quite long hair he has now but wants it cut in instalments so no one notices. When he was at primary school, his hair was nearly at his waist and he had about 4 inches cut off at a time. He's got mountains of hair, they always thin it out for him.
3) Dropped off birthday plants and a card at my friend's.
4) Went into Worcester to have lunch at the Chinese buffet.
5) Spent my birthday money from Aunty S on 2 soaps for sons from Lush (they like to choose).
6) Saw the very ancient see saw has been replaced in the village on our way home. It broke and had barriers round it for ages. Raining too much to test it out today.
7) Helped out at mum and dad's village fete this afternoon, doing the skittles. Saw lots of people we know including my solicitor.
8) Saw a red kite fly over whilst at the fete. I like how they are red and look like kites!
9) Sons spent all their money on the tombola and won wine, hankies and a lovely box of Thorntons.
10) Tea from the chip van (not a healthy eating day today).
11) Next doors had an estate agent sign out today saying it was an open house. So fingers crossed a few people looked round...
12) Been having a good read of Paul McKenna's I Can Make You Thin book. Going to bed to listen to the CD part in a minute. I notice smaller son is in my bed with Charlotte cat under the covers and Matilda cat on the top.0 -
VickyA- my car recently had that braking/rattling problem and it was, I think, suspension-related, and cost about £150 to fix, so not too horrific, but enough....hope yours is cheaper! x
Yesterday's fun
1. Cuddles with DD
2. Helping her with her homework - I had no idea what Tudor people liked to buy during the interval whilst at the theatre, thank goodness for t'internet!
3. Mummykins bought me some new tops for September
4. DD and I went to my new school's summer fete. It was lovely, despite the pouring rain, and as we walked through the door, one of the teachers recognised me and welcomed me like a chumI met some other teachers and am looking forward to starting there even more now.
5. DD and I also did some detective work and worked out (hopefully!) which is going to be my classroom, based on info one of the teachers gave me. We were only able to peep in through the windows, but it looks very lovely!0 -
Hi everyone.
PK and supersaver - good luck for your new adventures.
sparrer - so sorry to hear your mam was doing worse, I really hope you see an improvement soon.
mcculloch - glad it help you in some why to write things down. Very annoying to lose posts tho!
My pleasures for Friday:
1 - Super lazy morning on Friday. OH had to do half days work so I just chilled out.
2 - Caught up on my coursework which meant I got onto the Jane Austen section yay!
3 - Had a chat with some of the other folk here before they headed off for the weekend. I like it when it's quiet here.
4 - Out for dinner. Bit naughty as we were planning just to buy in and cook.
5 - Watching lots of tennis.
And Saturday:
1 - Wandered around the nearest town. Managing to miss most of the rain.
2 - Only bought a cuppa so LSD.
3 - Watching more tennis. It's so great when the big stars get a bit of a fright then come back and just smash their opponent.
4 - Made OH and I some nachos for dinner.
5 - Curled up together and watched a movie.0 -
So much for rejoining you all-finding the time to sit down and ponder on my OS Pleasures is a different story...:o
I'm not going to be able to catch up on all the pages I missed.
For the last few days:
-have started skipping again. It's a great aerobic exercise.I mean to do it every day!
-seeing swallows in the skies. It's magical to watch.
-I made a lovely seed cake.
-general gardening tasks.I'm managing to stay on top.
-watching Wimbledon.
-it's raining today, which is a nice break from the heat.0
