Afternoon
VJsmum - Not a night in the cells of a police station but in Oxford Prison which is now a swanky hotel but with very uncomfortable rock hard beds.
https://www.malmaison.com/locations/oxford/
Pleasures for yesterday,
1. OH brought me a cup of tea in bed. I admit I did have to bully him into it but hey worth it for tea in bed.
2. Walk into town to collect DD's train tickets so she can go to my parents for the holidays
3. Bought my DM's birthday present which DD will take with her and it had 50% off. Didn't really know what to get her but this just jumped out as perfect for her.
4. Laughing at some old family photo's on facebook. Can really see some family resemblances coming through on cousins as we get older. Hadn't realised how much cousin S looks like his dad till looked at some pictures.
5. Enjoying some Jasmine Tea when got home. Haven't had any for a while but really enjoyed yesterday.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
Time to post pleasures.
1. First issue of my competition win magazine subscription in the post and it was a good read too - still reading!
2. All horses intact after the National, all riders also. No fuel for the animal rights lobby. An online friend and fellow forumite here knows the winner's stable lass and was thrilled for her. Watched the race and really enjoyed it.
3. Rummy reserve in hand champion and his first two wins ridden (best coloured and best retrained racehorse). Even better, his breeders were there to witness it and so, so proud of their boy.
4. A dear friend called round. She had had a stressful-ish weekend at a conference and on the way home (some 20 miles north) said to herself 'I need to see someone who I know loves me. I will go and see And.'
Hearing this made me very happy. What a lovely thing to say.
5. Being able to help sis in a phone call and provide some useful suggestions for another friend. All good stuff.
6. New mattress topper is much more comfortable than the old one which disintegrated incredibly quickly inside its cover.
7. Lots of good cost cutting recipes lined up. I think smoked paprika would work well in giving the onion and potato hotpot a bit of extra pep, Broomstick.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Broomstick - I hope you get an allotment. I really love ours although it is a bit stressful not knowing what I am doing!
It's been a funny sort of day here...
I know I said I wouldn't mention MrN (next door) again here. So I haven't. But I'm afraid I'm going to today. The new MrsN has been in situ since last October and is not popular (apart from with MrN, we presume!) One of MrN's sons has moved out (aged 16). She has snapped at bigger son twice. She does not get out of her car if I am parking my car/on the car park but sits there until I go in the house. She doesn't acknowledge me at all. I am not sure why as, until last Friday, I had not said a word to her....
Last Friday I went to get bigger son (who plays with MrN's son5) and I knocked on the door and asked new MrsN if he was there. "I don't know!" was the reply. I said I would go down the garden and look in their shed and she muttered (as I walked away) "Do what you b----y well like", then went in and slammed the door. :-/
This got me thinking of MrN and his shenanigans for the year I thought we were a couple. There are few nice memories.
And this morning, I see that his house is for sale. :-)
Am I really nasty for walking round all day smiling? I feel sorry that bigger son will miss son5 but they will still meet at school (presuming MrN doesn't except them all to change school!) I feel about 10 years younger/4 stones lighter and that I could break into a song and dance routine at any moment!
I've had years now of trying to avoid him and, more recently, looking out the windows to see Mrs Battleaxe staring at me. I'm trying to be reasonable and pleasant but.....
Anyway!
Pleasures for today:
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Sons OK at school.
3) Went with my brother to get a table for my greenhouse. My brother works with the husband of smaller son's midwife (!) doing house clearances so I not only had a table but was given a nice hoe for the allotment.
4) Went swimming.
5) Took table and hoe to the allotment and it is looking OK.
6) Went into town and got my shoes for sister's wedding!0 -
Frith - those 2 complement each other. Lucky you, you're neither - and they'll be gone soon enough. No wonder the chimney was finally fixed!

1) Not a bad sleep. (To quote an old Garfield cartoon - "I didn't get enough sleep last night. I slept the whole time, but the night just wasn't long enough!"
)
2) Another nothing-to-do afternoon at work. I probably should have done some studying (the benefit of distance learning is that everything is online so you can use it anywhere) but instead caught up on the comps board.
3) A lovely smile from the lady on the till at W8rose, when I thanked her for getting some bags out for me rather than treating her as an automated food scanning machine as the two people in front of me in the queue had done.
4) Mushroom curry for dinner tonight. It was meant to be prawn and mushroom, but guess what I forgot to buy?
5) Downpour outside, but not inside now the roof is fixed. I'll be grateful for small mercies!
Have a good evening, all.Back after a very long break!0 -
Thanks VJaysmum and DDdoll. I had late night and unexpectedly early morning so am struggling to be coherent after work. But I've learned its a good thing for me to have my five a day, so here goes:
Toasty hot cross buns
On my lovely Emma bridgewater plate (I must save up for the 2nd soon)
In front of the real fire (yes I lit it)

Evening
Pleasures for today,
1. DD safely got to parents
2. Didn't take lunch with me today so had some yummy pork dumplings from my favourite noodle bar
3. Got some of the ironing mountain done this morning
4. For some reason when I did the shopping I didn't put everything in the freezer and forgot I had things in the fridge so had a bit of a cook up tonight. OH has a couple of extravagant lunches for the next couple of days but sure he won't complain. Dinner is prepared for tomorrow, just need to put it in the slow cooker in the morning
5. Also cooked up some rather soft tomatoes with some left over red wine and herbs so 2 pots of pasta sauce ready for the freezer.
Hugs to all who need them0 -
CCP I'm so sorry to hear about your sister's accident, I hope they're not too shaken. Thank goodness it was only the car which was hurt.
VJsmum your buffet sounds far more tasty and acceptable!
Broomstick I can't recommend anyone changes to any bank, just to say my 123 account has earned me a very satisfying amount of interest since I opened it last year. According to 'independent surveys' they don't have a very good customer service reputation but my branch is always welcoming and helpful.
1. A slow, wet drive down to visit DM, the pleasure being I think it's the first time I've ever done the return journey without seeing a bump, shunt or worse
2. Among the usual bag of goodies I take for her were some miniature jars of preserves which she was grateful for, she can't get through a standard jar before it goes off so the the tiny ones are perfect for her
3. Had lunch in Zizzi, shared a pizza with ham, chorizo, mushrooms and artichoke hearts. Wish I could make them as tasty as that, will definitely choose the same another time
4. Used a discount card for the above so I only paid half for the meal
5. Back home to find the Winter gas/elec bills, the first with the new company. Am not impressed that my quarterly dual fuel bill is £48 over what I've already paid on DD and they want to put my monthly DD up by almost £30! Oh no they're not, I'm looking forward to discussing with them my intention of going back to my original company (fortunately not tied into a contract) if they don't bring it down to a reasonable amount.
Sweet dreams0 -
Frith - MrsN sounds awful. You have every right to have a little skip in your step!
VJsmum - sorry to hear that you've had a horrid day. I hope Tuesday perks up for you.
It's been a day when I've got things done, but just not as much as is on my list.On the plus side, I have watched Homes Under the Hammer :rotfl:
Anyway, my pleasures:
1) Cake club. I love attending this. We meet once a month and I haven't missed one since I first started attending in February 2013. We have a different theme each month and the umbrella organisation is the Clandestine Cake Club. There are clubs up and down the UK and some overseas too.
2) Took a bag of paperback books to the charity shop.
3) Walked into town in between showers.
4) Paid in a cheque into my bank! :j I'm almost rich... until the money leaves my account for the credit card bill...
5) Erm, erm.... time for bed!
