Tealady, your talk of jasmine tea is just making me think even more about reinstating proper afternoon tea in our house.:D
supersaver - we'll all have to up our five a day to seven + from now on and the thread's title will have to get changed.:rotfl:
Frith, yay for the house for sale and the exodus of the owner:j
Sparrer, I realise it's not a recommendation but it does help to hear people's personal experiences. I'm seizing the moment to get finances more organised because of our move and switching utilities means direct debits can get moved into a new bank account at the same time. It seems to make sense. We have a local branch so I intend to deal with them in person, prefer it to phone or online anyway.
Five pleasures for Monday:
1. Well I got to speak to the new village allotments person and the waiting list isn't very long and we are now on it which is a success. (However, and this is so ironic, after nearly 4 years on our current allotment list, I had a call from them this evening to say that one had cropped up. We can't now take it because we are moving out of the catchment area. Obviously it wasn't meant to be in this locality! Never mind - someone will enjoy it.)
2. Had one visitor from Freegle and am delivering to another taker tomorrow. Excellent to have a couple more things gone from the house.
3. The plastic padded seats on all of our kitchen chairs have cracked so DS1 and I spent ages duck taping them to keep the foam in and I will recover them properly once we've moved. They look a mess atm but it's a job that's needed doing for ages and it's stopped the rot.
4. Ep 1 of The Crimson Field on iplayer. One of my grandfathers served with the Army Medical Corps in WW1 and I don't know much about that side of things so it's starting to give me a bit of a picture (albeit a sanitised and fictional one).
5. Not a treat, more of a relief so that's a pleasure: paid the winter fuel bill which was for four months (delayed because of switching) so it was a whopper.

Rite, is Tuesday, so go and sing yer hearts out, as it is not such a bad day after all. Tis a pity that I shall have to wait another eight days for Private Eye.
Guess I missed out then on Monday (Radio silence has been declared!) I was going to think about getting a digital aerial, then another media infused orgasm of nonsense swamps social mediocre. Self pitied interested nonbreties appear for nothing. I shall not conform. Guess then we shall remain without the moving wallpaper for another month.
As for yesterday
Monday had sinned, the weather is wind
No go not out my child, while it is not mild
Tomorrow will come, with loads of sun
Now back to work you lot, as I have a cream bun
5 The south face of the salt mine has through the square window this very morning, is of grey skies. This will pass, so fear not
4 I have booked the yellow thing come Easter, and if you do care to check my diary, you will notice that I am off school next week
3 as a bird. Yep, I am off, and those that noted my last week off will also be rejoicing as we all know that the sun will be shining for the
2 of us. So get you fill while you can. And lay easy on the chocolate in Mid Lent fares
1 The above weather forecast is a long range prediction and is subject to the elements!
Was it Mr Almond who sang, You never knew me, I never knew you? Then, if you pass my pavement, I may dop my hat. But, as the rod is clear, I will get on with the rest of my life.
BoP a life warrior, not a self pity worrier!0 -
Thanks BoP - I was wallowing a bit, self piteously. I appreciate the kick up the chuff as my mum would have said. which I think sounds ruder than it probably is.
I am hating work, hating it. The Times Higher ads are throwing little light, although there is one...... but in a different field. OH would have to be considered though. I wonder what else I could do.... :-/ Trouble is I am a good teacher, and I like that part. Other stuff, management stuff
Mhags - I see, when there's nothing to bring home from work you resort to beans on toastwe are having Begg tonight, so I can't talk
Ampersand - the Ronnie Blyth thing is lovely and very in the spirit of the thread. (Chicken, we are still thinking of you)
CCP - thank goodness your sister and co. are OK. cars can be replaced, sisters not so much.
Broomstick - yes, I thought you might be interested in E15. We are just approaching it a different way. There's more than one way to get there, as we have discovered. The Cazalets has passed me by, one to look out for then.
Tealady - phew, a hotel, not the nick! Is that why you're called tealady? cos you drink lots of different teas? I like jasmine tea with a Chinese (except that I can't eat Chinese :-/ )
McCulloch - what a lovely thing for your friend to say. A friend in need and all that.
Frith - I am sure there is a connection somewhere but the midwife and the hoe thing are making me wince
Supersaver - 5 NSD's already? Blimey, I am awestruck. Don't think I've had one - for months.
LFS - those spuds grew quick - off the trailer and into a bag! :rotfl: oh, did you mean gave him a bag of seed potatoes. Feel silly now
Sparrer - chorizo, mushroom and artichoke? can't say it's one I'd have been drawn to. Perhaps i'll give it a whirl. Nice to see no bumps.
VickyA - no it hasn't, but thanks
Pleasures for yesterday
1. Caught up some work backlog, though it was a struggle to stay motivated
2. went out for lunch with friend
3. Did some baking - lemon drizzle and flapjacks.
4. Fast day was OK, I think I am getting used to it now.
5. erm, erm, caught up with the Archers. Are Tom and Kirsty actually going to make it down the aisle?
and today - this'll be a struggle
1. caught train to work and walk to and from station was nice
2. bought a skirt in emaness sale, a winter one, half price and used a voucher i'd had for my birthday
3. nice soup for lunch and begg to follow for tea
4. got back to car at same time as DD left school so could give her a lift home
5. I think i'd better have the night off to lift my mood.
Have a nice evening allI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Quick pleasures for today!
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Bit of a lie in because we had the dentist first thing rather than the school run.
3) An appointment at the dentist that will make us appreciate our lovely Ebrahim.... They had a locum who was vile! There is nothing wrong with my teeth (one filling that has been in there happily for 20 years) and nothing wrong with bigger son's either. Yet just her counting/poking of our teeth left us feeling a bit run over. Abrupt, stern etc. By the time smaller son had his turn, he was literally clawing his way out through the door!
The nice man has always managed to look at his teeth, even once in the waiting room when he didn't want to go through to the surgery. But this one was having none of it and finally threatened that he'd have to go to hospital (!) and we gave up and drove away. :-/
4) Went round the charity shops but didn't get anything apart from an allotment book.
5) Big tidy of the living room as it really needed it. All dusting done and floor cleaned properly.
6) Travel bug arrived in the post (geocaching) as sons have one but I don't. But I do now.
7) Looking forward to Holby City later.0 -
Don't let me forget batch no.2 of 30 sausage rolls....
1. All the savoury stuff for demain soir is getting there - all day today, so
2. 2 npd/nsd days on the trot.
3. Harcchurs on and broad daylight of yellow thing variety outside still. Hooray! Oh, so Rev. Alan was an accountant before he had The Call, was he? That's a new-to-me factoid - and Jill IS on the move and Darryl's progress was upcaught in a brief sentence the other night...cast economies anyone? How long since we heard Usha or Mike or Vickeeey or Nelson Gabriel or Julia Pargeter etc....&, now you're just being silly.
4. Hearing Jean-Paul Gaulthier saying 'Exactement!' just now on Front Row:-) I think I rather like the sound of him, exuberant, self-unimportant, v.proud of his Spitting Image puppet. Had an English Grandfather, we learn.
5. Fenboy S has arranged for early window fix demain, which links with & collecting X en rte>appts and associated doings.
A sort of pleasure, except it implies opposite for earliest besty friendy from early 50's NZ schooldays, re-met 2yrs ago. En bref, a huge upheaval, but & unsurprised. We will meet properly this time. Have already undercover emailed, as requested.
..à la cuisine, au four, at a run.

ampersand - I will take your advice!
My pleasures for today:
1) Met up with a friend. We always meet at a country park which has a lovely tea room, so today's glorious weather was very welcome.
2) Run/jog/stagger a little further this evening.
3) Chicken stir fry for supper. Yum! Followed by a slice of cake from last night's cake club.
4) Phone call from my mum telling me she's coming shopping in my town tomorrow with a friend. Would I like to meet them for (free) lunch? Erm.... yes!
5) Spoke to another friend. Always good to chat.

VJsmum I thought it sounded a bit odd but DM chose it, and I have to say it was a very good choice. Worth a try
BoP is your yellow thing different to ours? We seem to have been blessed with quite a lot over the past couple of weeks. Interspersed with rain but on the whole we've had some good showings.
1. Sisters - thank you for the link ampersand. Reminds me of when my sister and I let a young friend cut our hair at a similar age, our DM had to take us to the hairdresser for urgent repair and we refused to walk up the street with our chopped hair, so she made us hats from newspaper. My beautiful blonde curls never looked the same again, not fair that hers grew back perfectly!
2. Spoke to the utility company about my estimated bill, which is to be amended. It wasn't so long ago meters were read regularly, now I'm told I have to phone in the reading myself if I want an accurate bill. They call it progress...
3. Spoke to my ISA provider, the new rate is quite favourable so I can transfer next month when my current year is up
4. DNeighbour's DD came and helped earth up the potatoes and empty a couple of pots. We'll be working on the front garden tomorrow. She's saving for a trip to the Harry Potter Studio and knows exactly what she wants to buy in the gift shop, always happy to help
5. A long siesta this afternoon - must have been all that fresh air this morning. Woke up at 4.55 pm and had an rtc Danish pastry, slightly warmed in the mw, with my cuppa. Bliss!
Sweet dreams0
