I enjoyed the recollections of others re advertisments as well as all other pleasures.
We were out of the country for 7 years so some pop culture of the late 70s and early to mid 80s passed us by but much seems to have been absorbed, probably through the recollections of others. Esso Blue I do remember.. Blue, Blue, Blue, Blue, Es-so Blue.... Cough.
(Delighted you found your keys Ampersand.
Also intrigued that a buried Action Man should have a bay of E bidder.)

    A collection:

    1. Chat with lovely new student, bright and engaged, who had left school without qualifications and is now determined to get some. These are rare birds but it's great when they fly my way.

    2. As I worked all Sunday morning (see above) I did my Sunday morning things this morning, which included the very OS pleasure of colouring my hair at home with just half a pack of colour. Greys banished! I haven't many but they tend to gather in the same area around my fringe.

    3. Dr C's Chrimbo present of Save with Jamie made it downstairs from his bedroom to join the kitchen cookbooks, and was pounced on by me. Not in Jack's vein of super-thrift, but I am sure I will find some good inspiration. (Dare I say some tastier than some of Jack's too? Her spices and seasonings are for a small child's palate, of necessity, and are sometimes rather bland).

    4. Speaking of which, a search through my county library's online catalogue revealed a Jocasta Innes cookbook of which I was unaware. A search on Am@zon revealed it on sale for 1p.

    5. Obviously there was postage to pay - £2.80- but this was paid for easily with the £34 of Am@zon vouchers I accumulated via surveys last week. Result, result!

Loving thoughts with all those whose children need strength, physically or mentally. There have been times that I pray I never ever revisit. It doesn't look likely at the moment but one should never get complacent.

Sad that Clarissa Dickson - Wright has gone. For all her outspoken right-wing non PC attitudes there was still something about her that I liked very much.
Her love of the countryside, her fierce bright intelligence, the sense of having conquered demons and her ability to laugh at herself.
My favourite story of her concerns her relative youth when, boogieing on the dance floor, she was struck by an agonising pain in the side of the chest.
Convinced she was having a heart attack, she staggered into the Ladies, only to discover that a bra wire had poked through the fabric and was digging in to her viciously.... (Been there several times, but knew what it was!)
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

Alas, &, Mum BoP was a dab hand with them needles, and a glass of sherry. She knitted me loads of jumpers, and her last one was an inside outside in version, that was alll ends of wool. BoPette found it very fitting!

She refused to do crochet!, alas, I am afraid, it was the sherry that took her early!

Gosh, I just got that about loose wires. It's a man thing, alas. Something for the weekend!

Tonight I am 'dying' with a cold, but happily, I managed to get through teaching 3 lessons today without keeling over! (tucked up in bed now putting the final touches to tomorrow's thankfully only 2 lessons, and one of those is a short one :) )

    Pleasures
    - getting through the day
    - buds on the trees
    - Mr and Mrs Duck nesting on the flat roof of my classroom (hope the kites don't notice them, they're pretty conspicuous.....eek!)
    - yummy pasta for dinner
    - DD drew me a beautiful picture
    - my bed!

    Kittikins - get well soon!

Tealady - I used to live in south London / Surrey so was quite familiar with the noisy but beautiful parakeets. Down here they're kept in aviaries as exotic birds, which always seems odd to me!

    1) A goldfinch on my bird feeder, the first I've seen in my garden.

    2) Despite a lovely, yellow thing-filled morning, I took a coat to work and was very glad I did as, by lunchtime, it was cloudy and decidedly chilly, and I really needed it!

    3) Had a bit of a scare when I got home - I put the key in the lock, but it wouldn't turn! As you can tell by the fact I'm typing this, I got the door open eventually, and added the dodgy lock to my LL's list of things to do (which we all know he takes very seriously :undecided).

    4) Got a pack of sausages out of the fridge, only to find they were several days out of date. :( They smell fine, though, so I'm going to risk it, and just make sure they're very well cooked. (If you don't hear from me again, you'll know I've made the wrong decision! ;))

    5) I should really do some work on my next essay tonight, but after only half an hour I'm too tired, so I'll curl up and watch last week's Jonathan Creek instead.
Back after a very long break!

1.. Well, titherdump, titherdump, titherdumpdumpdump today's sole achievement before Surgeon r.v. Big queues, lots to go, with neighbour's last-minute extras inc.collapsed mdf furniture, from which & salvaged 8 good cantilever hinges. No point chucking those away. Pressure of numbers meant 1st half with garden and glass, interval on adjacent P&R, brushing out trailer and flattening MUCH base cardboard. Back in, '2 mins left' said with smiles and all done. Great help from 3 chaps.

    2. No bone cancer, or any. Mr G is a good man. All day at Adbkes, but & was to come before more top-notch chop/fillet/sew until 10 ce soir@another place. I am so grateful for all that has been done.

    3. Rooth's just told Dehvid, who says 'Just goes to show - anything's possible.'
Aw naaw - Gymnopedie in the b/g, girly dress try-ons, No sign of Sir B yet, surfing in on 198 long waves to you soon.

    4. With usual news avoidance skills, & pressed car LW bouton left from R4 to France-Inter and heard rollicking big Strauss then a great Saint Patrick afternoon, with lots of utterly Gallic output, that sort of je ne sais quoi mix of high learning, insouciance, marvellous music, pertinent interviews, interest in/respect for 'other'.

5.Read this fine Indie article while waiting. I remember Yasmin AB's early beeb forays on Week Ending with Robert Robinson, which I loved. I felt she had a period of bizarre for a few years, but this one's accurate, apt.

kk - good girl, silly ducks. Let me lend them Johnny Vegas's Jemima Puddleduck CD.

    For this day:

May you live as long as you want,
And never want as long as you live.

    kiwiblue - how are you?

Come on DD, my money, house, and BoPettes housekeeping is on orange!

Ooooh, LFS, that would not be the Tiger Lillies. All their tunes are crude! And very 1920 Berlin cabaret!
