CCP - very peppery dumplings not my favourite... Well done getting back to work though & I hope the chilli thing was nice! Hurrah sis off all pills at last! Early night (not too much before 9.00 or you risk waking around 4!) Queueing blue tits - aww! How gloriously, ridiculously British! Get the cheese down you - rebuild your strength!
VickyA - you L'olic, you... Well done getting small folk taught to swim! Paid credit card too? Hurrah for Skype, and tag rugby, & not having to cook. All good things!
Purple kitten - simple food is often glorious & hurrah for Kindles! How are the few free hours going? Rot the blighters who smashed your greenhouse - I do hope they were not Scouts but trespassers. Please report it, well done on the pushups & all the best with repairing, repotting etc
Patchwork - short sleeves! Fun while it lass. Lovely DH clearing glass - must try fresh chard in curry on my lads! Digging off a bad mood on the allotment - there's smart redirection of energies!
Tealady - the many delights of the free Waitrose brew *&* a lift home - excellent! Well done not succumbing to the siren lure of the takeaway & some people are wonderful - as your DD reunited with her phone can happily testify!
Frith - glad to hear sons doing well relatively & eyebrows threaded (?) May you have medics who can & will do the show by the patient - triple bonus points that Dr.C! Alas balanced by school being clumping waggons over this trip. Delighted to hear elder son happily getting up to no good with son of Mr.N - can only be good for him...
Lovefullshelves - happy birthday to your OH & may bonfires bring happy memories to smooth grief.
Sparrer - late daffs are an enduring treat. Farm shop & bias silk skirt - loads of fun!
kittikins - hurrah for getting student A on side & for smart working with co-student! Bless daughter - so much sense for one so young & all the best with the interview! [Oh. Blast.] All experience, but lumpy just the same. Bless your wonderful womenfolk!
mhagster - Rain! (So nice to hear someone enjoy it so!) Porridge & rabbits - winning mix for the younglings! What a splendid day off after your poor mum's cat. Brightly rightly taoed feet dancing from one stunning bargain to another to a whole new domestic look. Curtain tape & hooks are different? Intriguing. Must remember to look when on holidays!
DD - the dumplings were wicked peppery, whcih cleared the sinuses a bit. Bobbles right & wrong side? Ah - sensor array for Dalek - lucky lucky blanket holder! Downloading some salamander. (Only 10 have aired so far, yes?) pop rock freddos in the library - oops! legal and moral issues of online health care - if that gets online, please post the link? I find online advice fascinating but worry about boundaries & peer review! Powerpoint the invention of Beelzebub, but bean stew & iplayer sound Heavenly!
ampersand - delighted to think you're messaging chicken via reflective place - may we all have hope and reality and belief and resilience and triumph! Enjoy the violets amidst the rest & right with you the Pistorius trial should not be "live feed". For too many reasons, one of whom is dead. No books or plants?! Shocking! You have stickybuds?! Fingers crossed for them - a source of huge delight to the family when we were but little folks. Bluebells have a special magic, both individually & in great drifts.
BoP - I'm just not starting the underclothes jokes... I envy you your IT policies - I get disciplined if I delete the lot! Could all this hard work with the Yellow Stuff mean Raffles needs specific chemcials?!
mcculloch - there are fewer freebies these days, but more coupons. Swings & roundabouts! It really is all down to how much research...
Broomstick - fingers crossed for your washing machine, you can teach coordination?! and well done picking out the nuggets of sense from American audiobooks whislt multitasking!
OS Pleasures recently
Constellations like an upmarket jeweller's window last night - glorious! Worth this morning's extra sweater...
Clean air tastes cold - urban miasmas are warm. (Exhaust fumes, greasy spoon bacon...)
Some bright young thing is raising a smile - she's been on the antifreeze & is still dressed in short bright light Spring-y attire while the rest of us look on huddled & bemused!
Just chilly enough to tip the dice in favour of a pause at Waitrose. Hope the machine is working! [Yes! Ah, both warm hands and nice coffee!]
"It'll all be right, now" - quoth the bloke who runs the garage by the cherry trees. He's writing cheques from your book, Raffles!
Rtc pizza from Asda as the lads have been hard at work in the garden & are tired. Not good for budget or waistline but til they're thoroughly infected with the gardening bug, I'll cooperate.
Husband has carved a pipe. I've found a website that sells the doings to put a stem on it. Happy squalks suggest Plans are made, alongside discoveries!
Got a PG Tips limited edition Cheeky Monkey mug (special promotion but still in my local Asda!) for colleague's birthday. Should cheer up a cracking communicator!
Working with familiar trainers & data to show off what I (& other "specialist resources") can do to help colleagues. I do love watching the penny drop. Then reinforcing that with treats from the Kindle library....
Fog has its good points. Some blots on the landscape are gracefully shrouded. Still a bit unnerving to drive in as signs make you realise you're only at C when you thought you were just a minute up from E....
Big Hugs to all who need them, sunscreen floppy hats & parasols in case & hwbs on standby!0 -
I just posted something on one of the Loquax competition website forum threads and thought I'd post it here too, as some of you - not all, but some- may share similar memories.
It's a chatty thread about irritating TV ads, I don't watch a lot of TV but I did as a kid. Even though we were mostly a BBC family some ITV got through. Just 2 channels. I shared current irritations followed by some memories...
My mother in law had a broad Brummie accent but it was nothing like the 'Anything for Yow' guy.
They KNOW they are being hideously irritating, which makes it worse.
Well, as a result, I am far more likely to use anything else for my search... like Trivago.
Hair dye ads that use women in their early twenties with long tumbling locks and then state 'Cover all greys'. Well yeah, they are fifteen years minimum off their first greys! Hardly an endorsement!
I watched far more TV as a child than I do now so I can definitely state that some of the ads in the 60s & early 70s were irritating.
The little lad running to the shop chanting 'Plumrose Chopped Ham With Pork'.. He gets to the shop and asks for 'Plumrose Plopped Ham with Chalk'.
Others weren't exactly irritating but were were dreadful earworms. Remember these?
My mum used to sing 'Lux for that film star feeling' over and over again.
Me, I liked Primo the cartoon bear from Premium Tea. Primo was cute but the chirpy jingle... 'Gives you a sparkle... Premium Tea' stuck in my head and remains to this day.
My mum used gravy browning and flour to make horrible, tasteless gravy. I longed for Bisto as 'Bisto browns, Bisto seasons, Bisto thickens all in one go... Aaah, Bisto!'
Molly Weir proclaiming 'Flash cleans baths without scratching'. A whole generation of English, Welsh and Northern Irish kids could say that in a Scottish accent because of Molly.
More recently, one of the best ads ever was the Maxell cassette tape one which had the song 'The Israelites' misheard as 'Me ears are alight'. Loved that.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Aaaaah, McCulloch, I had my first grey at 22
But those products don't cover my grey hair, so I gave up using box dyes!
Can't think of 5, so this'll have to do
1. No idea how well I did on my observed lesson, I did see one section and it was worse than last week. So, not a pleasure, but at least I didn't cry when I caught sight of the paper!! S*d it, I'm going to start demanding that I get proper help rather than just 'you need to do/show X, Y or Z' as I obviously don't know how to do it right yet, so blooming well help me!! I'm not looking forward to my scary feedback meeting tomorrow, which will be with both of the witches, I mean teachers
2. Had a good laugh with my co-student this afternoon - turns out she feels pants this week too, but is hiding it better in public, lol.
3. The lovely caretaker at school has given me loads of sandpaper - an essential element of next week's science lesson!0 -
Good evening everyone :hello:
Very quick post this evening. Let's try for 5....
1) HM Chilli con carne from the freezer. Fab!
2) My mum phoned from the Cheltenham Festival. She had 3 winners in the first 3 races and was giddy with delight!
3) Picked up some new treats for the "prize box" in my class. The little cherubs had better appreciate them! (given up buying bouncy balls as I've made a rod for my own back :rotfl:)
4) About to have a lovely bath. What a treat!
5) Had a sneaky bit of cheese. Mmmm, yum!Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -
I have a stinking cold. It is not fair.
However ...
1. Was very brave in a meeting today and got what we wanted for our small charity. Phew!
2. Went to the allotment again and finished digging the weeds out of my square. I always like to leave a straight edge, for some reason. Then I can do another square the next time.
3. Got rid of 4 scaffolding boards from the allotment to the couple next door, who were very grateful.
4. Eating a cooking apple peel after tea whilst pottering round and cleaning up. Weird, I know, but I like sharp-tasting apples.
5. A glass of wine this evening. Purely medicinal, of course.
Going to recuperate. Thanks for all your cheery posts, people.0 -
Aw kk i feel for you. During one of my observations (secondary biology) the toerags at the back were eating the peanuts i had clearly told them not to cos they were sprayed with anti fungul stuff. And where was my tutor sitting? Just behind them. She reported it to head of science and he roared with laughter, saying he'd had a child who'd eaten (cant remember what) and had to go to the hospital to have his stomach pumped.
dfv i lerv the pgtips monkey. I have the toy
1) hm feta pasta salad (last of the feta shame) for lunch
2) rtc egg sarnie for tea before mum picked me up, saving the bus fare, to go to
3) knitting club which was celebrating women in science with patterns for red blood cells, blood cells infected with malaria, something beginning with tri (or might have been try, slime mould and something that looked like a cupcake. What's that? I asked. A cupcake - even scientists need treats :P
4) met up with a friend ihavent seen for a while. She's a maturer 1st year medical student and was busy knitting an aorta. Last year she knitted syphilis for her researcher aunt so she could say 'i gave my aunt syphilis'
5) finished my first dalek square. Got one bobble a stitch out but very pleased with the overall effect. 3 more daleks to go.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Tealady: wonderful that the phone got back to your DD.
Mculloch: I can’t stand that “anything for you cupcake” advert it drives me to distraction.
Patchwork: Hope you feel better very soon.
Aw thank you so much for your support you're wonderful:)
1. Dh dealt with the police who were very understanding even talked about forensics, but it’s not too bad we only reported it just in case other things happen in the area we wouldn’t know about.
2. As part of DH and I’s volunteering, we received the well timed news we have passed the police vetting, and are invited to police training for an evidence gathering course this Saturday so we are all booked in, sounds like an interesting way to spend a Saturday.:)
3. Received compliments today, I think I’m coming across as a bit more confident from the exercise classes.:o
4. Popped to Mr T tonight and picked up a 3 for 2 offer as I was getting vitamins, I picked up some potters herbal day tablets I thought may be worth a try.:o
5. Crocus’ in the front garden looking really eye catching.:)
6. I'm mesmerised by watching a programme about the ISS0 -
mcculloch - 'a noodle doodle doodle doodle..cars..a noodle doodle houses'
PK - greenhouse hugs x make them come stand in my greenhouse when its windy as punishment if they like breaking glass noises..I swear we lose another pane each windy day!
Frith - your sons doctor sounds like a saint! Bless him. I think I'd believe son...he knows if he feels sick..its his digestive system :-P
1. 14 foot trailer full of wood for the fire for freeeeee
2. WW2 bun recipe was a BIG hit..out of a dozen made at tea break this morning theres 1 left!!
3. DS's mental health lady was very helpful. I feel so useless sometimes when he's been self harmingand she says he might have anorexia. But he eats like a horse and he's just like his sister was at that age. Super skinny..and looking back at pictures of me I've realised I was skinny too!
4. Hospital tomorrow. Its a pleasure as its finnally come round! 17 weeks after the op:D
5. Hot dogs and fried onions for tea:D super unhealthy. And delicious!! And quick as DS had to be run around ALOT!

It was Esso Blue paraffin and, aaah bisto, was always turned at the helipad, to AAAH BRISTOW!0 -
sparrer are you okay? Not heard from you for a couple of days....you're usually posting when it's lunchtime here!
So hurrah for Friday and waking up at blooming 5.30am. So I got up and ironed the most ginormous ironing pile ( constructed from 4 different piles ) and watched Waterloo Road as I ironed.
Phoned friend from home for a chat .
Potter, potter for a couple of hours.
Went to hairdressers for a trim. Strangely she did not wash my hair but sprayed with water and cut and then blow dried. If I'd known I'd have washed my hair this morning, now I shall have to wash it tomorrow and lose the just been to the hairdresser look! Anyway, looks better than it did. When my fringe gets to a certain length it goes into a big cows lick! Not my finest look!
Then grocery shop. I was mentally counting up as I went round and put something back once I was at the till as it was $8 I didn't really need to spend. Very budget conscience this month! ( says she buying silk curtains and getting her haircut!)
Then home and finished my library book. Then a little snoozette!
Made individual mince pies for dinner with potato wedges. Just about to have them now. DD1 made an apple and pear crumble. I made truffles and DD2 cleaned the kitchen around us ( for a fee!)
Just been out and watered the veggies and DD1 swept the driveway of leaves...autumns a coming and the leaves are starting to fall.
Have a fabulous Friday all!0
