Afternoon all, and a belated Merry Christmas. :xmassmile I'll keep this short as I'm on my mum's computer, which is clearly very much on its last legs.
Some pleasures for today:
1) Wandering down to the village and exchanging "Merry Christmas"es with all and sundry.
2) Spoke to my sister on the phone and she sounds somewhat cheerfuller than yesterday - most of her area is badly flooded so her partner couldn't get through to the hospital and she ended up spending Christmas Day alone in hospital. She apologised today for being so grumpy yesterday, but I think it was entirely justified in the circumstances.
3) Watching Wallace and Gromit on TV and knowing my sister was sitting in hospital watching it and laughing at exactly the same places.
4) My parents' shy, nervy cat falling asleep with her head in the palm of my hand. :heartpuls
5) Squubble and beak for dinner tonight.
I will be back within the next day or so - I hope you all had a lovely Christmas, and that Father Christmas brought you everything you asked for and many treats that you didn't.Back after a very long break!0 -
Broomstick - hurrah for 'the cup that cheers' & we had candles lit & glorious! 7 hr plus board game?!(Risk?) All best vs flu with rest & hwb.
Not pedantic - glad to hear F C rates a good single malt!
Sparrer - I'm mostly on tea anyway, but the antibiotic reinforce that quirk. Right with you on the lure of train sets.
Ampersand - Kings' & the King William Quiz & barn owls - great start! Off to "re-read" National Velvet again - thank you!
Mhagster - I was up early too but never thought of shortbread - opportunity missed! No gammon in Oz? Shocking!
Frith - they do, eventually, sleep in a bit. The 14yo currently isn't expected til 10 at earliest. All strength! Love smaller son of Frith's train set! (How cat proof is it?!) Bigger son's thank you - awww! Rested? [just realised - LED rings omitted from stockings - may let boys gawk at video then Surprise!]
VJsmum - that quiet hour before the rumpus starts is *wonderful*... Victrix ludorum? Not at monopoly but funny - excellent! Found mistletoe - remember where for next year?
BoP - give the chap in red a chance?! (May have got held up at Frith's after her chimney works.) Looking forward to pud pics! Stunning, as ever!
DD - grinning at dog walking attire - and yes, the Merrier the hat...
Kittikins - stockings are a special time (even at 2:58) & my lads chose Tangled! Brothers are to be outlived, outmanoeuvred & outplayed....
Chickenopolis - bless him, my mount was embarrassed (as well as disapproving of the niff) & so stood & waited as I got up, fell over, got up walked to find a gate, climbed over & walked down the track to be reunited. Sounds like you've had a cracking Christmas! Stunning cousin texting - very good lad!
CCP - *so* sorry your sister is in hospital still, but glad you can both chuckle over Wallace & Grommit
Yesterday's daftnesses
Son has read "Extremely Flammable" on Lynx packet & adopted a very thoughtful expression. I'm not sure *what* he's planning, but he seems rather pleased.
Love the way they go quiet when assembling Lego. Worth abandoning principles & buying the Sun (briefly!) for.
Eldest shambled up in boiler suit (his macho equivalent of a 'onesie') mumbling "it's too early" at 10. Clearly not touched his stocking (with energy drink) yet!
Loving the whoops of delight as the PG Tips monkey looses his dressing gown with the hot drink... Two small boys watching & whooping happily! Lovely generous sized mugs, too. "It's heat activated monkey p!rn - you can't get much better than that!"
Family Christmas celebrations beginning - candles being lit all round the room. Happy times. We like candles... (We're historians. Candlelight triggers things.)
Today's?
Reading all the love & laughter & being very happy with you, my other family!
One of our windowsill growing chillies is turning orange!
"You want a tea? Can I finish blowing my nose first?" The Christmas Veg Soup had garlic & pepper & "the nastiness of parsnips was not in it" (well, not in *that* batch) thus bugs are being chased out...
These blasted antibiotics do appear to be helping with the sore throat. Over a week, at fiendish inconvenient times, still to go. Bah!
More later - sorry, have to stagger...

Good evening all.
I hope you've all hade a good couple of days.
Some pleasures from the last couple of days.
1 Father Christmas enjoyed the single malt and mince pie so much that he went into the kitchen to help himself to more.
2. Childs' faces on Christmas morning.
3. Family all together.
4. No tv - playing games and with presents instead.
5. Long walks on downs with dogs & family.
6. No sprouts. Actually there were piles of them but only DF (dear father?) likes them.
Less good was aged (97) Grandmother having blackouts on Christmas day morning. Paramedics called. He recommended hospital but she very much refused. So she went to bed for 8 hours, got up for an hour to open presents with her (great(grand))children, had a sip of sherry then went back to bed very happy.0 -
Hello,
New to this thread and don't have five things, but one really good thing is that I wasn't among the people I just saw on the news flocking to the sales to buy even more stuff. Instead I am with the bosom of my family and have all I need for at least five days without seeing the inside of a shop.
Happy Boxing Day to all.Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
1. Loved my sprouts, v sweet and non-sog.
Heads-up for any who missed Jeremy's rant on said veg. bop - unbeeb linky here:
http://castroller.com/podcasts/FridayNightComedy/3865845
2.Made 2 dozen mince pies on the Eve. 9 left at last count. Only me.
3.Not very day-dressed today, possibly no change from last bedtime. Untouched by guilts.
4. Call the Midwife catch-up, National Velvet[as already set for your homework], probably more catch-up of old Vicar of Dibley and many even older Father Teds.
5. TMS and Pietersen sticking to the grim task.
6. H/m mulled ros! is excellent, esp. with lovely wing-rib, pickety-pick most of day.
7. Whereabouts of unpicked rosehips revealed to me.
8. Urge to garden returned, even if unacted upon.
9. All the w8rs rtc 25p peaches zapped with h/m peel, pinot grigio dregs, ratafia and h/m elderflower cordial...stairway to heaven if you could but catch a single whiff.
10. SSS - I spy 5 in your 1st post. Just break it down and Warm Welcomes!I can make 11 so small that no-one will see I've also demolished remaining Yorkshires during day.
, but
& ain't, not really, 'cos they were too nice, dipped in heir-to-throne's gravy, also rtc w8rs. All true, with added fib smiley. The real:o is re that very gravy. Never in my life have I bought such stuff ready-made. Oh well, there's always a nearly 65 1st time...

1. Went out to the rec with DD this afternoon to play football, netball, have a jog (err, yes, I run about as fast as most people walk!) and visit the ponies in their field
Good to blow the cobwebs away
2. Open all Hours just nowHow we all chuckled and I was very glad the till was still in the shop!
3. Need to introduce DD to the original OAH, my daddykins has the DVD.
4. Lovely lie in with DD this morning.
5. Scrumptious leftovers, especially the beetroot bake. And the trifle was even better the day after, lol.
6. Frith and her magical bay of e link:) Duly bought for the little cherub who wakes up at stupid o'clock!
7. Looking forward to seeing one of my oldest chums tomorrow; she's also DD's godmother
8. Shared the small bag of chocs Father Christmas brought me with DD, nom nom....dare I mention it was our breakfast as we woke up late and didn't want to spoil our appetites for lunch? Priorities....lol0 -
Evening all.....just woken from a snoozette but it does mean I will still go to bed and hopefully sleep! Jetlag is not a pleasure!
Today has been quite a relaxed day.
I've read half a book,
We had to get petrol for car so I nipped in to asd@ and bought some rtc plums and my cards and ribbon for next year.
Popped into see friend and her DD to see what Santa brought them
Back to cosy cottage for the most delicious lentil soup and a roll and slice sausage.
Read a bit more
Enjoyed some fresh air. Although cold it wasn't wild and wet.
Read even more and then zzzzzz , apparently I was making funny noises....tiny snorey noises!( according to DD2 ....I'm sure I wasn't!)
And that was my Boxing Day !
Only one week left of my holiday though!0 -
Kittikins - hope small Kittikins likes them! They were bigger son's 3rd favourite present, apparently.
Here are my pleasures for Boxing Day:
1) A lie in until 10am!
2) Porridge for breakfast.
3) Spent quite a long time setting up a blog. I have been meaning to do it for ages. I find it impossible to write without using sons' names so if anyone wants to read it, they can pm me for the address.
4) Walked to mum and dad's (about 4 miles). Not raining today but the fields were very waterlogged.
5) Tea cooked by mum.
6) Watching Harry Potter now.
That's it! A very quiet day for me today.0 -
The pleasure was actually yesterday, Christmas Day.
My dear little grandson came down the stairs and announced "someone special is coming down now". And the someone special bless him, was his little 6 month old sister making an appearance with daddy after her afternoon nap.
It brought tears to my eyes, he really loves her.0
