2. chilli for tea
3. pear and almond pudding cake nomnom
4. I can see the worksurfaces in the kitchen!
5. gave away 2 carrier bags of apples to a friend, no more room for apples, freezer full, jars nearly full!

1. Made a microwave sponge for afters with h/m blackcurrant jam and custard - gorgeous.
2. Visited Mum in nursing home and got my ear bent by delightfully batty old lady next to mum who told me my husband kissed her twice and she's going to steal him. Knitting hubby ball and chain as I write this! Thankfully, Mum was not with it enough today to understand or fisticuffs would have started!
3. Started on the skirt I got for £2.50 BNWT in charity shop, too big. I had already unpicked it and started putting it back together to fit me. Zip is next step - hate putting in zips!
4. Came home today to smell of ironing being done by fabulous hubby! (Why does it never smell so good when I'm doing it?) I found him ironing the to-be-refashioned pile, poor lad!
5. Had a lovely lie down this afternoon with hot water bottle and crocheted blanket. I laid down freezing and got up warm and relaxed.0 -
Evening all - busy couple of days.
Sparrer - after seeing mum with her COPD, I can imagine how you feel.
Kittikins - glad it's going well
Ampersand - good to see you posting again
Mhags - truly happy posting, I am envying your spring.
Yesterdays pleasures
1. Another proud mummy moment, if I may? DD arrived at Birmingham New St Station yesterday when coming home from school to find an elderly lady had collapsed on the platform. Though there were people around her, it was DD who ensured she was comfy and who put her own coat over her; she checked for a medi bracelet and waited not only until paramedics came, but until the lady was conscious and in an ambulance. So proud of her, and ashamed to say that I can't promise I would have done all that.
2. Freshers first day seemed to go well, I did a mini tour of the building with HNC students, who seemed pleasant
3. Baked a lemon drizzle - made up for the minging chicken curry I cooked.
4. Walk to and from station quite pleasant even though it was chilly
5. I think I am pretty much better
For today
1. Drove to the Freshers event at Safari Park, spent ages in car but the alternative was going on the coach with the students!and I found a coffee shop en route so even better
2. I cooked tonights tea last night so not much to do. I love how a disgusting looking chicken carcass and some wrinkly veg turns into lovely filling, nutritious, tasty soup - for pennies. Had it with home made bread that I managed to stick in BM this morning.
3. Not MSE - I put the heating on
4. Freshers event went well - nice to interact with them. Hope they stick with us.
5. Should be doing something more useful - work or ironing or something. But I'm not
Working at home tomorrow. I really hope I achieve something.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Hello all i see at least three of us are at the start ofthe academic year so my first is a lecturer's nightmare
1) got to teaching room 15 mins before. No puter !!!!!!. Went to librarian (teaching rooms are in library area) to ask who i should ask. She took me to the support team who quite frankly were rude and unhelpful. I hadnt booked a puter, they were unresourced and that was that. Actually it was booked by my amin team and there is no prompt on the bookingform re av. The librarian was lovely and photocopied my slides which i had printed 6 to a sheet phew. Photocopier v slow but finally done. 5 mins late to class! So 1st joy lovely librarian
2) was 2.5 session on reflective practice. I reflected very openly on my experience and it was a good discussion point so that is #2
3) finished at 12:25 (slot 10-12:30 and firmly believe in finishing 5 min early) and fire alarm went off. Had to evacuate. #3 - i had finished my lecture but not started my lunch
4) after work went to local hostelry for supper with 3 polish visitors an colleague. Haggis and red onion pizza (!) #4 a good evening
5) now home with mutts watching miranda #5 iplayer
Feeling a lot more cheerful than yesterday (perhaps i'm starting to believe it'll take 28 months to get over 28 years together). The students are great - very inquisitive and contirbute loads.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Hi all and thank you for your welcomes
Have been working hard to decipher abbreviations and conversations... Getting there.... I've just started academic year too...LSA in college. Yes I chose the name..I'm ever the optimist always looking on the bright, possibly to a fault..hey ho:)
I like this reflective exercise.
1. Got a couple of big hugs from students from last year today
2. On trip to museum in London, couldn't resist lovely food, butternut squash, spinach and feta pie with lentil salad then a huge coconut and chic chip cookie...and I get to claim part of it as expenses:)
3. Dog jumping with happiness to see me when I got in...she's a rescue dog and I think she can't believe life won't go back to how it was poor thing.
4. Box of bulbs arrived 200 for £20 - what a deal...just have to plant them now!
5. Lying in bed now all snuggled up and cosy..been a long day..school meeting straight after work till 8.00
The yellow thing might be gone..but I just keep on smiling:)0 -
Just a quick 5 this evening after quite an annoying/tiring day!
Tonight I have: noticed the flex has worn through on my laptop cable (a la Sparrer), broken a cup that I got from a factory which has the same name as bigger son - so a favourite one, turned the wrong socket off after hoovering so I turned the breadmaker off mid cycle and cooked a lemon cake only to find I had cooked it in TWO loaf tins, one inside the other!
Anyway, here are my 5!
1) Not a bad sleep.
2) Smaller son had a physio appointment at 10 so no point in his going to school first (1.5 hours drive away). So we took bigger son to school then meandered around physio town and had a little walk along the canal. Also had the bribery McD's breakfast. ;-)
3) A pleasure was the physio's patience with the smaller son who a) refused to get up off the chair and b) walked around her office like he had 2 broken legs. She managed to glean some information about his gait by looking at the wear patterns on the soles of his shoes (when I'd managed to prise his shoes off without getting kicked in the head). He really was very silly this morning. I demonstrated the exercises she was describing to prove they didn't hurt but actually, they hurt quite a lot and my feet ache now!
4) A nice chat with smaller son's teacher when I dropped him off and, as she pointed out, this will be the last time I will see her... :-(
5) Smoked salmon bagels for a snack with sons and a piece of lemon cake.
Tired now and a bit grumpy!0 -
sunnyskies I agree, glass half full, every cloud has a silver lining, etc etc
VJsmum I feel for anyone with this stupid thing. I see people smoking and want to scream at them not to do it, not because I'm a self-righteous ex-smoker (some days I'd love a cigarette) but because I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
CCP the porridge sounds delicious, I'll definitely be trying it when I start hot breakfasts again
chicken 12?, but I expect you worked them off, that must have been a very strenuous job. The first time I had one many moons ago it was served with President butter and apricot conserve and, other than with cheese, it's still the best way to have it. Very yum
PK lol yes it's quite useful
1. Had my appt at resp clinic this morning, lots of tests etc including walking for 6 minutes. I broke the 6 minute 100 yards :rotfl:.
2. Have been booked in for a 2 month course starting at the beginning of October, twice a week for 2 1/4 hours each time. Not sure if they're trying to kill or cure me!
3. Had lunch with DD, who lives in the town where the assessment was, then took her youngest, Amy aka Squeak, to have her second vaccination. I'm impressed, this is the first time she's called one of her dogs a sensible name
4. Got home and managed, between downpours, to clear out some of the pots and baskets ready for winter planting. I need to look for something hardy, and just happen to be going by the garden centre on Friday. I also just happen to have a garden centre voucher in my purse
5. Had a voucher for £10 off a £25 spend at mat alan on line, searched the sale goods and got some slippers, 3 winter tops and a skirt for £19 with free delivery to the local store
Sweet dreams0 -

Bin hard work with & giving me full control over the last few weeks, but I am sure it will be back. Oh, and welcome.Tired now and a bit grumpy!
5 Ms BoP was nearly 60 points ahead in scrabble last nite, when she played the word spoke down bottom right. This allowed BoP to place zinc onto the treble and take spoken for 78 and a flurrish to finnish on. Though she is getting better, she just cannot compete.
4 Lost at cribbage. (Special note to SPARRA)
3 Ms BoP had her mop out yesterday, I came home and you could eat the dinner off the porch floor. Best I did not compliment, otherwise I would had eaten dinner off the ...
2 gether with Ms BoP agains tonight. University Challenge tonight, so it could be close. And Cocoa and bun.
