Sorry to laugh, skint - well, just don't tell your sister.

    Frith:
To give you an idea[but nothing can, short of being there] -
    As the bumf says:

'At the very heart of historical Bury St Edmunds are the Abbey Gardens, built on the site of a great Benedictine abbey and well-known for their stunning floral displays. The gardens are framed by the abbey wall that runs from the ancient Abbot's Bridge via the imposing Abbey Gate to St Edmundsbury Cathedral. They contain magnificent formal gardens, the largest of which consists of a great circle filled with flower beds set in well-kept lawns; there are also the more secluded areas, such as the Old English Rose Garden, the Water Garden and the Blind Garden, where scent is everything.'

The ruins and vast spready trees are wonderful for clambering about, big adventure games and dogs, children, grown-ups all find much in this haven of a place. B St E as a whole is like this.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
    Evening all.
Oh and I found something virtully fat free and guiltless. Frumps, but yous lot nose them as Marshmellows!

I haven't had those in years! They were always my favourite when I was a kid, and I didn't know they still they made them - I'll keep an eye out now I know. :)

    1) Mended a hole in the seam of my favourite jumper. It wasn't really necessary in one respect, as the hole was hidden under the floppy collar and no-one could see it, but I feel better now it's fixed.

    2) Found out that my slippers are machine washable, so I've freshened and cleaned them up rather than throwing them out and buying a new pair as I thought I was going to have to do. :money:

    3) Managed to hobble into town with a colleague at lunchtime for the first time since the operation. I needed painkillers as soon as I got back, but it was worth it to go somewhere that wasn't home, the office or the doctor's. :j

    4) Received my veg box. It's far from the cheapest way to buy veg but I love opening it and seeing what's in there this time - it's so much more exciting than buying a handful of mushrooms and a pepper at the market. :o

    5) JP and tuna mayo for dinner.

Have a nice evening, all - I'm going to risk going to the pub quiz, and just hope no-one treads on my bad foot.
Back after a very long break!

    Skint - Pogo stick :rotfl:
Ampersand - you describe the gardens beautifully, I don't know that part of the world very well
Chicken - forgot your mum lived next door - how lovely

5 for today before I tidy the kitchen

    1. Working at home - got some bits done but not as much as I should
    2. Hall is half plastered - shame i'm not :rotfl:
    3. trying to lose half a stone so had yet more soup for lunch. Makes up for the excesses of last night. Tea was 4 x ready meals from the freezer. Determined to get it empty and at least it was convenient.
    4. Limericks for national poetry day
    5. No hangover and a decent night's sleep despite half a bottle of red followed by coffee

No day off tomorrow :( got to go to a seminar, which is in lovely Leamington but unfortunately I won't have time to mooch.
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • Hey guys,

Hope your all ok and not feeling the cold weather too much.

    Mine for today are;

1.Went out for lunch with OH not very OS but lovely all the same.
    2. Had a mooch around Libery's looking at the xmas decs. Some lovely ones but the OS part of me (and also the more logical) begrudges and will not pay £50+ for a wreath no bigger than a dinner plate!
    3. Started making a serious xmas shopping list - better late than never I suppose.
    4. Garage rang this morning and the car is fixed and its not going to cost as much as I thought which is always a bonus!
    5. Sitting with a hazelnut coffee (on special at MrT), a bar of chocci and catching up with the ole OS'ers .... simple pleasures eh??

Massive hugs to anyone that needs them.
    Loads of love
    TFE
    xxx
I have enough money to last me the rest of my life......until I go and buy something!

Thank you for the congrats on my being officially 'outstanding', (!) :o As most of you know I work from home as an e-tutor, so I don't get the face to face interaction with colleagues that I did when I worked in colleges or in the community. So it was nice to tell someone!
PK , good to hear some good news after the week you've had.
The pogo stick story made me laugh so much! :rotfl: Thank you Skint, we promise not to tell your sister.
Frith, what a find.. if the boys lose interest, I wonder if that pogo stick would raise pennies on eBay?
Ampersand, I've never been to Bury St Edmunds but what a lovely picture you painted.

Chicken, the Arc... Everything that I thought would do it has dropped out! No Snow Fairy, :( no Danedream, what a bummer for her connections, :( no Nathaniel. There was so much build up over Camelot's Triple Crown and then such a let down. I would love to see him do it and prove the doubters wrong, and with Frankie on board too, what a story that would be! The ground might not be in his favour though. And has Ryan Moore recovered fully, if he does ride Sea Moon...? TG I never bet...

    1. CCP Washing slippers in the machine....I do that! Not only slippers, my (leather) summer sandals went in today as the fabric lining had gradually absorbed a lot of foot lotion, it was not pretty. I was semi convinced they had come with a 'machine washable' label.
Then I realised the leather lining of the sandals had disintegrated when I saw brown pieces floating around in the machine .
    BUT...
A small piece of brown paper had sneaked into the machine as well and gave me near heart failure... Serve my son right if it was one of his scraps with a 'vital' phone number on it!
The sandals are fine... and CLEAN! They have a slight raise built in, whilst I don't always wear my raised shoes and sandals, ruining them would have been a bit of a disaster as there is so much wear left in them. Plus having to get my other, still unworn pair built up would be a bit of hassle. They can stay unworn for another year.

    2. Speaking of brown paper, a very flimsy, ripped brown envelope arrived and incredibly the sample of men's moisturiser (for DS!) inside it was still in place. I sent for it and DS doesn't know it's arrived, so I think I'll pop it in his stocking at Christmas.

    3. Nearly reached a decent voucher target with one of the survey sites. These vouchers will be used to fund birthday presents and small treats for me whilst funds are (hopefully temporarily) short.

    4. Mhagster mentioned vitamin D.. I picked up a delicious 4 pack of vitamin D and calcium enriched yogurts in Her*n, 50p as per usual with their 4 packs on special.

    5. Not needed to put heating on yet, though it is cooler. Wearing clothing layers instead.

    6. I get so much pleasure from reading your pleasures - and sharing the not so good moments. Thank you.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
  • 1) Had my hair recoloured at my usual salon, which is far cheaper than anywhere else locally, and took great pleasure in listening to everyone else's Christmas planning nightmares. So, it's not just us.
    2) Spent some time with DS after college. I'm teaching him to cook, again, so we made sausage casserole with red wine, and cous cous with veg and mint from the garden. I think he enjoyed himself and fortunately, the cous cous looked exactly like the photo in the cookbook.
    3) Got two very nice jumpers from the cs. One does have horizontal stripes, which usually irritates me after half an hour, but it's a lovely thick woolly so I may be able to put up with it. I also discovered a nice pair of 'going out' trousers in the back of the wardrobe that I wouldn't wear over the summer, so I feel as if there's a couple of new outfits there.
    4) Talking to DD this evening. DS and DH have to go over there for a Uni Open Day anyway, so I might as well have a free trip with them and sit on her sofa on Saturday.
    5) Not very OS but went out for the evening with a friend to a local-ish pub earlier on. The menu was pretentious, given the standard of execution, and the prices were high but it was good to chat with my friend, who is gradually finding her feet as her two small children grow up. There is a good group of mums at school and it's lovely to hear that she is finally getting some time to go out with the girls to share disasters etc. We do miss our Third Musketeer but if people will move to the other end of the country it's a bit difficult ...

Lovely pleasures today chaps, I've really enjoyed reading them and am glad I didn't know Skint as a child, that pogo stick sounds scareeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey!! (but fun when its watching someone else bounce on it :) )

    Yesterday's goodies for me....

    1. Low spend day - should have been a NSD but wasn't (whistles innocently at wasting money when I thought I'd got out of the habit)

    2. Fabulous day at school, I'm going to really miss the place next week....*sigh*

    3. DD, OH and I watched a bit of the Wales programme, fascinating but as its moved on from the Romans and Celts, DD found it less so.

    4. New people joined my Bible study group tonight, I say new, I know them both but they're new to the group and had a great discussion with them about the evening's topic.

    5. Looking forward to guitar jam session tomorrow with DD and her chum.

    6. Enjoying the fact that this 'new' house is less spider-attracting than the last one, we've only had a few rather than been overrun with the little arachnids.

    7. Made my famous, amazing, different every time Tuscan bean soup and there's enough left over for 2 meals, hoorah!

    8. When I got home and checked on DD, the sight of her fast asleep in her bed, dressed in her leopard skin onesie, with books and cuddly toys around her, melted my heart. (No change there I guess, I just have to think of my beloved daughter and I feel all gooey and lovely :) )

    9. Sunshine yesterday!! Yippee :) Although as I type this I can hear the wind howling around the house and wonder how much it will have rained by the time we go to school......

    10. Someone brought delicious banana and walnut loaf cake to group, I could have eaten far more than one slice, but thankfully showed some restraint!
  • Morning all, KK and those up afore the sparra!

Had Church leader team last night, new yuff worker doing well, but cannot see the reward he wanted to give his group. He asked they be allowed to paint ball. No I said, cannot condone any activity that pertains to use guns. Got interesting, but the kid will learn, he cannot go and promise things then expect us to pick up the tab. Now he has to go back to the group and say why it was not approved. Might just do tea bar tonight, love being fly in the ... As for guns and laser quest etc, no no no. Father was in Korea and never allowed me toy guns, though he took me on some shoots. Said that to use them join up, which I did.

5 Got things moving yestday. Pharnicist gave me all pills so can shake, rattle and role. Jenny is calm again.

4 Only one wobbleade at watering hole left. And I came away spotless. (Uley brewery Old Spot). Just hope that the scenes the Owners have made over the years come to their downfall. Not nice, but they deployed big bird on me to ruse and cause a commotion when review was done in 2009. Nice, flattering, but hey, poor girl at six two is going to ...

3 It is ok, Ms Sonny nose about the bunny boiler.

2 Just having a snoggles inn with Ms Sonny. Keep yer toes tucked in.

1 All washed up, no place to go
