scintus-macbintus - welcome! My sis and I thought we were doing well providing Mum with 4 extra grandsons in 15 months but 7 under fives is good going too! What fun Christmas must be!

acey - AH! That's the one! We were gazumped on a house in that village years ago so ended up much nearer the city but DH's family are out that way.

Today has been a busy one Chez Scotrae!
    1. Picked my 13-y-o godson and his brother up and took them bowling with my boys.
    2. Showing the 'borrowed boys' how to make pots of gold to take home.
    3. Picking our 4 family bikes up from a very kind couple on our local Freecycle Cafe group who repaired them using recycled spares free of charge! My boys are very excited about not having brakes that stick and DH and I have no excuse now ... family bike rides, here we come!
    4. Reading my emails to find one telling me a letter is on its way with time and date of an interview in the new year. (This was from Friday's application form - so I'm very pleasantly surprised and happier for Christmas now.)
    5. DS1 wanting to cook - again! Hugh F-W's flatbreads tonight. If only Hugh had been a bit more specific when mentioning 'flour for dusting' ... it's all over the worksurfaces, floor and had spread on to the lounge carpets and sofa.

    Yikes! Christmas is HOW soon?!

Scotrae - I live 2 villages away from there! (About 4 miles).

    5 for today:

    1) Got organised generally this morning, little bit more wrapping up etc.

    2) Brother came round at 1.30 to have a go on the Wii.

    3) Sons pretty good, not too much arguing and we kept ourselves amused by getting out the Action Men and all their kit.

    4) Went swimming later and little son can suddenly swim under water - as though he's always been able to do it! By the time we got out, he was also jumping in and going under, diving under and waving to us and sitting on the bottom!

    5) Got back from swimming to find ex brother in law had been round and left us a card. It would be good if the boys could see him and their cousins, even if its only once a year.

Feeling really tired and headachey now so I hope thats nothing cold/fluey....

Evening everybody  - we've had more snow today, but it seemed to turn to mush by this afternoon, once the gritters had done their stuff - everywhere just sludgey then. If it freezes over tonight, the roads will be treacherous in the morning.

Reverbe - sorry to hear there's such a 'brickwall' when trying to sort out potential homelessness - hope things work out for you.
Caterina - such self-restraint in waiting for bigger reductions ;). Hope your DS goes safely in the morning. Wow Caterina - blonde highlights and a pink fringe - you go girl cheerleader3.gif. Hope you've enjoyed tonight's concert :).
redsquirrel - safe journey and enjoy Venice :D.
Tealady - so sorry to hear about your mum's best friend - must be very hard for her, as well the friend's family. Hope all goes well for your mum over Christmas and New Year and that the funeral passes off smoothly - she's going to need lots of tlc from you all.
nic1lou2 - awwww what a shame you couldn't go ahead with the procedure today after 'gearing yourself up for it' too. Best of luck for tomorrow. lol at your OH pressie wrapping - I've been told 'shut your eyes, no peeking and put your finger THERE!' before now  - :rotfl:.
Rummer - lol - can see you're all ready for HSchristmaswindow.gif. I'll second that sentiment, Rummer smiley-eatdrink055.gif
kiwiblue - wd to your OH on helping the kids with their car - must have been very scarey for them at the time. Obviously taught them a lesson ..........;). It's not often we get to experience a white christmas either  - and still a really good chance that we won't THIS year either lol. The reality, for Liverpool at least, is a dull, murky day - occasionally a glimmer of weak sunshine - sometimes cold, damp and windy - and dark by 3.45-4.00pm. Actually, it doesn't sound all that much different from our recent summers either :rotfl:.
sparrer - sorry your brother wasn't able to bring your mother over to see you after all - hope the weather is a little kinder tomorrow and that you get the chance to spend some time with them both. What a lovely neighbour !
SunnyGirl - Oh dear, Christmas arrived a little early this year with your kids, has it? Sometimes, in the past, I've felt like a Pressure Cooker with 15lbs pressure removed before it's ready ! Good to hear that they all calmed down eventually.
nuttybabe - oh dear - I hope they get in touch with their insurance company quickly for you to get things sorted.
Dazi - :T on your Mincemeat Muffins - they sound very . How sweet of your colleague to give you a lift back home again. This is the time of year when I absolutely love working from home !
scintus-macbintus - what a fabulous name :T. Welcome to the 5 pleasures thread :). Isn't it great when you can watch your grandbaby moving around before it arrives . Hope all is well for your friend tomorrow.
scotrae - what wonderful 'Freecycle Cafe' people you have near you :T - sounds like it's developing into a 'Let's Link' as well as Freecycle :j - best of both worlds! Wtg on the interview and fingers crossed for you with it .
ACEY - wd to your little 'water baby' - he is coming on in leaps and bounds with his swim.gif.

    Mine for today are:

    1. Had taken the day off work to go with DD but had the morning free.

    2. Went to the local shopping centre for some final postings (yeah I know no guarantees on delivery!) and shopping. Bargain pj's in Poundstretcher and a couple of extra presents for dgs1 - main present didn't cost very much at all.

    3. B&M Bargains - £1.79 for 2lb jar of Frank Cooper's Luxury Mincemeat , 49p for Ainsley Harriott Heaven Bars and 29p for Cornflour :j.

    4. Lovely cup of coffee and buttered scone in my favourite charity shop - little haven in a mad world today .

    5. On to Asda for utter chaos! Whoopsied piece of pork £2.50 - now in freezer. Potatoes (SmartPrice £1.36 for 5kgs), Lemons (88p for 4), new kettle (absolute necessity as other one packed in at the weekend :() £10, Champagne for DS2 and g/f - £10 (bargain from £24), whoopsied layered prawn and pasta salad for my lunch (32p), Root Veg Pack £1.36 (full price unfortunately!), 2kgs SmartPrice Onions 88p.

    6. Turkey is now defrosting in a plastic container on top of small chest freezer.

    7. Home-made veg soup with bread rolls for evening meal tonight.

    8. Just about to put a Ham Shank in the SC to simmer away all night. Already got Soup&Broth Mix soaking - Shank Stew with dumplings for evening meal tomorrow. Pea and Ham Soup for Christmas Eve  and I'll have another bowl when I come in from Midnight Mass .

That's me about done for now. Will be heading up for bed soon. Nitey nite all. HScyboie_glitters.gif for everybody who wants/needs one - love Ollie xxx

Hi, OS lovelies :hello: hope you are all well and keeping warm!

    My five are:

    1. Laughing so hard with good friends in the pub last night that I had tears in my eyes and my cheeks were aching. We were being very, very silly...:rotfl: (nothing new there...)

    2. Delicious homemade butterbean and mushroom curry with brown rice for tea. Yum, yum :j.

    3. Scintus -MacBintus - welcome, and thank you for making me smile with your wonderful name. :D

    4. The decorating finally, finally, finally getting finished yesterday, after about 8 months! :j

    5. A client coming in to the office, bringing wine and chocolates and telling us how he values us and the good service that we provide. Plus I got two Xmas hugs and kisses from him, and he's quite attractive...:kisses3:

    Edited to add...

    6. Being handed an envelope with a £200 cash Xmas bonus in it by the boss...:j:j and :j We've had our differences this year but I feel quite warm and mellow towards him now...
Life is not a dress rehearsal.

    Morning all,

    Feeling a bit more positive today so here goes my five for yesterday/today;

    1. Reading all your lovely best wishes on this thread, they did bring a little tear to my eye. Thank you all for being so kind
    2. Lovely phone caht with SIL yesterday, I don't talk to her as often as I should but it was lovely to catch up and she is a very calming person to talk to.
    3. Hearing OH and DD laughing away together this morning. They are very similar in personality so they are either at war or laughing their heads off. This morning it was laughing.
    4. DD bringing me a cup of tea in bed and staying for a cuddle
    5. OH giving me a lift to work this morning, great not to have to walk in the icy conditions

Thank you all again for your kind thoughts.

    Hi all

nic1lou2 best wishes on a prompt recovery from your op.

Kiwiblue, I wish I could swap places with you, if only for one Christmas, you can have my white Christmas if you want, I am craving for sun sand and sea like mad... shame they haven't invented teleportation yet (unless one is Dr Who, of course!).

scintus-macbintus, welcome, how lovely that your first MSE post should be on this thread! I am sure you will come to love this little community like we all do!

Ollie, re. pink hair: just wanted you to know that it took DH at least 15 minutes to realise that the "something different about me" was pink hair - unbelievable but true! Re: concert, it was wonderful music and singing but I was sorely disappointed that it was not all candlelight, mostly it was electric bulbs! But the church is very beautiful and we had a great evening.

Here are mine for the day then I am off to put the last touches to the preparations:

1 - DS well now, must have been a very quick stomach bug! He did the paper round and then had a great big breakfast. Am delighted and relieved.

2 - DH's first day of holidays, it was lovely to be able to have a lie-in together after waking up and feeling in a festive mood, instead of him rushing off and me whinging that he left the light on!

3 - Booked a very very very nice hotel in Chichester for an incredibly cheap offer price, for DH and me, on 27th and 28th December. Going to visit DH's cousin and his mum (DH's Aunt) there. He lives there and his mum is visiting from Yorkshire.

4 - Checked with the Weald and Downlands museum what they are doing on 28th Dec. and they have a Sussex traditional Christmas exhibition, can't wait to visit after having done the family visiting.

5 - Lovely breakfast of homemade soda scones and now ready to go shopping in town.

6 - Invited to visit a neighbour later on for mince pies and mulled wine, neither of which I will have (because I need to make penance after I have already indulged in non-vegan cakes for a couple of days already, naughty me!). But the company is good.

    7 - Lovely sunny day.

8 - Heard from a dear friend and we are going to get together when I come back from Chichester.

9 - Only just after 10am and I have already been able to clock up 9 pleasures, the day is looking promising!

    Love to all xxx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Things got busy/distracted yesterday so here's a belated five pleasures for yesterday:

    1. Lovely phone call with director of the show tying up some loose ends and saying mutual thank yous.

    2. Very good veggiebox order (with extras) including some treatsy organic cheeses and two big bags of those clementines I love.

    3. I hadn't ordered veggiebox chilled food in ages and, rather than the polystyrene crates they used to use, they are now delivering food in cardboard boxes lined with reusable sheep's wool insulation. Seemed to work very well - l like it.

    4. The whiteness of the frost and snow and the way that it makes the light so lovely and clear.

    5. Meal out yesterday evening with the extended family. That was this Xmas's big get-together and it was a stress-free way of gathering together a dozen people from 5 to 85 yrs old with differering food requirements.

Have a good day everyone. More (((hugs))) to those that need them.

    B xxx
