Thanks for the replies. will leave around 9 then.0

You say you want to be there by 11am. I suspect that is a lot earlier than your check in. So leaving at 9am would be the way i would do it. Leaving any earlier will be self defeating. But build in some time for the sods law puncture etc.0

Just realised that the flight is an hour earlier, which means want to be there at 10am. May be 8.30am now?0 -

it would cost about £25 from the city centre in a taxi to the airport.
now if the government hadnt gone back on thier word about the airport rail link, this could be a different story. why do they always think green until it cost some serious money?
there is a bus from paisley to the airport included in the fare so it seems and takes 20 mins.Journey Details

The bus to Paisley does not take anywhere near 25 mins. The buses run at least every 10m- to 25m is by far a worst case connection. It takes about 10 minutes max from outside the back of the station and stops in the restricted area outside the terminal. Personally train to Paisley then shuttle bus is both cheaper and better than bus all the way into Glasgow but they don't sell it for some reason. By the same token it isn't a 30m walk from Queen St to Central- about 10m.
Where in Edinburgh are you coming from? If in the centre near Waverly train is the way. If outskirts 2hrs in car, if west of Edinburgh nearby-pass 1h 30m should be enough.
The M8 traffic will be slightly easier at 9am and the queue in Glasgow should be gone or eased by around 9.30am.0 -

7am although can be as early a 6.30am. I was in heavy traffic at 50-60mph a couple of weeks back at 7am at eurocentral. I've however never done Edinburgh to Glasgow before 9am only the other way around. With the tram works and all the other hassles the train might be easier and less stressful.0 -

or an easier way would be.
leg 1 of 2. get in car and drive down M8.
leg 2 of 2. park car and get on plane.
im sorry geordie, but thats no real alternative to driving, especially if you have luggage with you.
share a smelly train with others, then get soaked walking from queen street to central, share another smelly train from another smelly station to an even smellier station hope you dont get robbed in paisley then get on a stinking bus to the airport.
too much like hard work to save a few quid, and i doubt that would be any quicker than driving. its more like a top gear challenge than a start to a holiday....work permit granted!0 -
There are a number of bottlenecks unfortunately.
The first one is Eurocentral to the A725 Coatbridge/East Kilbride interchange.
Then there's where the M74 merges with the M8.
There's a sign giving approximate journey times too. should give you an indication of how bad the delays are.
After that its usually ok until you hit J13 (watch out for the muppets who duck onto the Parkhead sliproad then cut back in. )
Its usually slow to where the M80 merges and there's 5 lanes. then its slow approaching J16 because you lose a lane for the Dumbarton A82 sliproad. Again, a popular muppet zone.
The next big bottleneck is the Kingston Bridge - and there's a lot of roadworks there where the new M74 is being built. After that, you should be pretty clear all the way out towards the airport.0
