having worked in retail I think this avenue is highly unlikely to happen, that money will be bagged up tonight and await security collection tomorrow, they will not keep all the £50 notes back just so you can have finger print testing.

If this had happened when I was a supervisor at a major chemist, the till would have been taken off and a new till issued with a new float, spares are kept for this purpose, it was unreasonable for Tesco not to do this, poor customer service.

Are you sure it was a £50 and not a twenty, all cashiers should say at the time the money going into the till "£20, thank you" to the customer, it can save alot of hassle and we were also taught to leave the money on the cash tray as we lifted the change out, it would also save so much hassle.

Tesco tills aren't designed in this way, so it wasn't poor customer service in this respect, it just can't be done on a Tesco till. That said the situation should have been dealt with better. I can't imagine a lot of stores would take a lot of £50 notes, so it should have been relatively easy to identify.

Alas the Police will be too busy to fingerprint the note, they are busy arrwsting all the "Loan" companies that charge an arrangement fee up front.....
  • thats really bad,op! i hope they sort it out for you, as said before,£50 notes are rare, since i started at morrisons, ive only had 2 £50 notes since july and we have to get them checked by a supervisor before we can accept them. im not sure what it is with tesco lately, they have really gone down in my estimation, and their customer service is just appalling IMHO.

Well that's an improvement at least.

If there were 3 £50s in the till then there should be a record of when they were taken as they are unlikely to be part of the float and the amount tendered should be entered by the cashier.

Whether the till balances is no indication of whether you were short changed or not as it is possible for a dishonest cashier to shortchange several customers and then give too much to a "friend"
