short changed in tesco please read and help if you can

i paid with a £50 and got change of a £20 i pulled it up straight away and the supervisor was called the lady on the till said i cant remeber what she gave me i wasnt taking any notice(30 seconds after i paid, so no time lapse),supervisor said what is it with yu today i have had nothing but problems with you all morning,
! they did a till check and the balance was under not over ,so they did it again and it still wasnt even , so i have to wait till the end of the day for a complette roll /till check , to me the till not totaling shows the SA obviously is making mistakes , what i want to know is where do i stand if they come back and say no its not there ? should they have shut the till will dealing with this as she just carried on serving people ? i really can not afford to loose £30, i have had the £50 in my bag a week as i got it from my parents last week for my birthday , can i get the police involved for finger prints from me and the note ?? i have asked if they have camaras on the tills that can be checked
im so upset i dont know if i have any rights here or not , i know what i gave her as i had £55 and needed to get petrol and fill my leccy key on the way home

any advise would be fantastic and be so much appreciated
thank you

its unreasonable to expect them to close the till
wait and see what they come back to you with
if they say the tills right then you would need to escalate your complaint

Sounds bad customer service even for Tesco. The cashier says she wasn't paying attention! And the supervisor slates her in front of you by saying she's had nothing but bother all day with her! Hope you get it sorted and get your cash back.

If they get back to you stating the till is not over and you are sure you handed a fifty then involve the police immediately, inform Tesco that you have/will be doing so and that you require them to secure any video footage of the till area both whilst you were in attendance and for the duration of the operators shift as possible criminal evidence, make the point of requesting that the police obtain the footage, they don't always automatically do so. If you advise Tesco of your intentions they are obligated to secure the footage.

  • If you gave a £50 note, then I am suprised that the cashier tried it on with you (if this is the case and not just misplaced it) as they are quite rare and I wouldn't expect there to be more than one in a till anyway. Hope that makes sense, it's been a long day!

  • to be honest I cant imagine they took many £50 notes so you will probably be fine, after working in a supermarket I know it is policy to check the till before they can give you the right change but in the supermarket I worked in (which wasnt Tesco) as a good will gesture they would often cash the till while you waited.
If I was you I would pester them, dont let them rip you off! when you finally do get your money back you should ask what they will give you for the inconvenience aswell. You might get something nice out of them hopefully :)
    Good luck x
