This is a wind up right?
Even if it is i guarantee it has already happened - and will again.
Does anyone remember a few years back about the couple who had £100,000 worth of loans written off because they decided Lloyds had lent them too much? Nothing to do with the fact THEY were in charge of their own money and wasnt exactly being held to ransom to take it?0 -

Though never heard of an amount this high.
So must be a sizable mortgage.
i've heard this story a couple of times now and both were mortgage express customers on their magical 0.34% BOE trackers.
it does make business sense for the lender - get a customer off such a low rate and push them somewhere else. that £40k could be a cheaper alternative!!0 -

I know this has happened and I am sure there will be some winners out of this total fiasco, its more the shameless brag post I am objecting to. I am sure there are many people struggling in poverty through no fault of their own. I just hope he/she may prove to be a decent human being and maybe give a little of that windfall to charity, after all from what they posted they seem to have everything else. Please remember other opinions are available.0 -

Judging by the 'look at me aint i clever to have been reckless with money' attitude and the spend, spend, spend life of Riley they portray whilst others around them were suggesting saving.....i wouldn't hold your breath.0 -
The OP got lucky here. Fair play.
I understand why he is pleased to 'share' his news but would hope what he has really learned here is that he was actually very fortunate not to be homeless.
Can't say his one instance of (substantial) good fortune makes me want to go out and spend like an idiot though....but hey, that's just me.Go round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger0 -

The thing is chucky how big would his mortgage have to be, to be offered that 40k? I hardly think he is in a good position, would you buy an expensive house NOW at summer 2007 pricing levels for only 40k compensation? At best it sounds like an escape from disaster rather than a windfall to me.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
