Ah! Thank you. I didn't think of Cotton Traders:doh:!
The first ones look suitable and the elasticated waist would be comfy for him. They would be cool in the summer too.
Will have a browse. Thanks again!0 -

My mum is 77 and shops in normal shops such as M&S, Debenhams, M&Co, etc. She's not mutton dressed as lamb but she's far more fashionable than me - she puts me to shame. Clothes for older people don't have to be polyester dresses and the like.0 -
Bronnie, it may be worth googling to see of they have an outlet shop near you - I have been to one at one of those retail outlet places and they have some bargains! I actually got myself a really nice black microfibre cowl neck jumper from there too!0

High street preferably...
They need to be a short leg, but reasonably roomy round the waist, (size 16-18 I think) as someone else commented earlier, like so may elderly ladies, she has developed a curved back and rounded tummy, which combined with a lack of waist, means she is holding most of her skirts up with safety pins.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Would anything like this be useful for him?

or these, perhaps in the chocolate or stone colours?

Success! have just ordered a couple of pairs of these trousers in mushroom and fern.

They have side elasticated bands as well. They are (sort of) the type of slacks he has worn all his life and are what I think feel appropriate and comfortable to him (as far as I can tell!).
Also got one of these for him to try

He'll probably wear this not tucked in!
The nearest branch is Cheshire Oaks and the prospect of going there at this time of year fills me with :eek::eek:. Managed to find a free del code for Cotton Traders on the Vouchers and Codes Board, so pleased with my purchases. Thanks for your pointer, fc!!0 -
No probs, hope they suit him. I bought my dad two of these for christmas, in navy and mid blue - they are nice heavy quality, (he feels the cold nowadays) from a retail outlet place for a fiver each! Bargain!
(they are unisex, despite the pretty female model!)

If you have a branch of Ann Harvey anywhere near, I have several pairs of their jog bottoms which look VERY smart, are easy to take on and off, and have pockets and elasticated waists. What more could a lady ask for? Oh, they also do different leg lengths, and also have a petite range (but it all starts at size 16!) Sale now on ...
thanks, I will take a look!0 -
My Dad's nursing home used to undo the back seam on the residents trousers and let in a triangular piece of fairly matching stretchy material to give the extra room needed when sitting in a wheelchair. Often it was only the waist size that needed a bit extra at the back and this didn't show whilst sitting down. Saved throwing away perfectly good trousers.
Hope I have explained that ok
this is proving to be such a useful thread- will have to get my MIL some of those M & S joggers.0 -
I have managed to find her two pairs so far, a grey velour type pair from a local factory shop, (which I think are M&S) and a deep but bright purple/blue pair from asda! - I wasnt sure she would like them but she is already wearing the grey pair, and loves the purple ones!! (but I need to take them up for her as they are a bit too long) - will be checking out some of the other suggestions too so I can get her a few pairs!
thanks folks.0 -
I like velour trousers for this time of year. I seem to be practically living in the same pair! Mine are navy velour from David Nieper, not cheap but I can get them made for me in the right length - shorter than normal!Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
Before I found wisdom, I became old.0
