where can I buy clothes for old person

Op asks where can I buy.... not where can she buy, so not unreasonable to assume that the 80 yr old doesn't get out by herself. Are we thinking about access to shops, those that provide chairs, private cubicles for changing... etc?
If anywhere near a Double Two factory shop like my local one, it would be ideal - easy, free parking right outside, helpful staff, cubicles for changing, lots of choice, very reasonably priced. Ranges to suit all shapes, sizes and tastes.
Looking on the internet is a good idea if lady cannot cope with going out, or catalogues. Damart for one. Lots of coats with hoods, though mainly shortish.0 -
If the lady can't get to the shops but the OP can, perhaps the OP can check out the 'possibles' for suitability, quality, price and value, and report back ?
If the lady can narrow the choice down, most shops will give a refund on returns if the coat she has chose is unsuitable......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I don't think it's in the least patronising. If I wore what my 30 year old niece does people would think I was wearing the clothes for a bet :rotfl:.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

The reason I started this thread was because I was going to buy her a duffle coat ( online ) but my sister said they where for teenagers & young people .
I am no expert in buying womens clothes ,and certainly not for 80 year old .
But surely the point is, what does the woman in question think about duffle coats? Can you not just ask her rather than your sister?0 -

A lady who goes to our church wears a duffle coat and I guess she is 80+. She always looks smart in it - it's lime-green - and she says it's never out of fashion. It does depend on your size, shape and individual preference though.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Sloughflint, you may think I need to 'chill out' but I do think that the words 'clothes suitable for an 80-year old woman' have an unfortunate connotation.
I have many friends who are 80-year old women and they are as different as any other age-group, although most do retain an interest in clothes and a knowledge of what suits them. A conversation between 2 ladies after church recently: 'H, you always look smart in that duffle coat'. 'Thank you. I've had it for years and it never goes out of fashion.' Another voice: 'You're lucky, you have the figure for it. Me in a duffle coat - I'd look like Paddington Bear'.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

We're all entitled to our opinions, but sweeping statements are a different kettle of fish......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Oh dear, to church as well - and it's green ! Can you not remember the fuss when Michael Foot wore a duffel coat to the Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph ?0 -
The days are long gone when one dressed formally to go to church, in hats, gloves and high heels. Helen's duffle coat is of the 'fashion' variety, not the kind worn in the film 'The Cruel Sea'.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
