i'm with eon saveonline v14,are the new fix online tarrifs cheaper, cause i can never work them out

It depends on your consumption and region. You could always try one of the comparison calculators on the switching sites if you do not want to work it out yourself. (For an average user it's about £80 or £90 cheaper.)

    Hi,

As you guys are aware the T&C stipulates that we may charge a cancellation fee if you change supplier or tariff.

Whilst I can not say 100% that the charge won’t be applied when changing from v3 to v4 of FixOnline I urge anyone to assume the cancellation fee will be applied. The T&C’s mean we reserve the right to charge the cancellation fee.

I recommend anyone interested in the new version compares their tariff to see how much projected saving is to be made, if it’s less than the cancellation fee (duel fuel £30) then the switch may not be financially viable if the charge is applied.

Brian, Would it not be fairer and clearer to customers to just say there will be an exit fee or there will be no exit fee. (Not just EON)

I completely agree fullstop that it would be better if we could categorically state whether or not the charge will apply.

However, whilst we may charge the cancellation fee now, future changes to the business may mean we won’t, therefore our contracts/T&C’s have to be set out to be prepared for this possibility.

Again the rule of thumb should be to assume the charge will be applied, and if things ever change and you aren’t charged then look at it as an added bonus.

I'm in a similar position to the OP - Fix Online V4 will save me ~£58 based on last years usage vs EON SaveOnline SC tariff I've recently switched to - I'm now agonising over the plusses and minusses !!!!
Also I've just seen that Fix Online V4 doesn't come with Tesco points - I reckon that reduces the saving by another £6 !!!

    Hi brewerdave,

SaveOnline does not hold a cancellation fee therefore you can join the FixOnline tariff without being penalised.

Moving away from FixOnline in the future may carry a £30 charge.

One way to look at this is you will save £58 by changing tariff to FixOnline, but if you decide to move away or change tariff to something else later down the line and you are charged the fee of £30, you will still have made a £28 saving on your annual usage.

If for any reason the charge isn’t applied in the future you will have maintained the full £58 saving.

This example is only relevant if you stay for a year on that particular tariff as any period of time less than a year means your projected saving will be less than or closer to the cancellation fee/amount.

I am on FixOnline3 and I wanted to see what the tariff and discount was for FixOnline4 but when I click on more tariffs I get told, because I have already changed twice online, tough luck you are not getting too see, or words to that effect. So what is the difference between FixOnline3 and FixOnline4?

    Hi Stan,

Sorry the website won’t let you compare your tariff, currently once you’ve changed tariff twice in 3 months, you can’t use the ‘Switch your product/tariff’ function to even view other products let alone change to one of them.

This is an area of the online service that we agree needs changing, and I am glad to report has been raised already. So hopefully in time we should see this changing and becoming much more functional. :T

Only being able to change tariff twice in a three month period is only relevant when making the changes yourself online, if you contact us by phone, email or letter you can request as many tariff changes as you like.

There are three differences between Fixonline 3 & 4, firstly the fix period on FixOnline 4 ends 1 February 2011 instead of 1 December 2010 on FixOnline 3, secondly the unit prices are the same but the discounts in some areas have increased, and thirdly the Tesco Clubcard offer will not be offered, those on version 3 still receive their points.

The good news is anyone can see the details of the new FixOnline 4 by visiting the Products & Services page on the website (you don’t need to be logged in as a customer to do this) all you have to do is put you post code in and all the available prices and discounts for your area will be listed.

  • Hi

Just to let you know I called Eon today and changed from fixonline 3 to fixonline 4 today without incurring the £30 exit fee.
