  • oh goodness its creeping up!
I've now made a christmas cake, 2x 2pt puddings and 2 big jars of green tomato chutney. I have all the ingredients for mincemeat which i am going to put together tonight and then 'cook' it in a low oven tomorrow as per delia as i am at home to keep an eye on it. I treated myself to an enormous kilner jar specially for this.. so not as MSE as it could be, but it will last for a few years (the jar, not the mincemeat!).

i can highly recommend Morrisons dried mixed fruit for all these things, 65p for a 500g bag and it has the peel in it already, so its all working out quite cheap!

I am intending to make mincepies, sausage rolls, stuffing (i have some chestnuts that needs cooking) cranberry sauce/ bread sauce, brandy sauce, baked ham, etc nearer the time.Depening how it goes I may also make some of the xmas sweets like fudge and turkish delight.. make a change from Roses.....

I'm trying to do a lot of things myself ths year to save money and because it is the first xmas in our own home, so want things to be nice
  • oh yes.. i have also made sloe gin and experimental slow dark rum, sloe tequila and sloe overproof white rum (which i think may actually be lethal!??)

i would like to make some of the homemade baileys-a-like as it sounds lush...
  • I am so envious of you guys.Id love to make some h/m gifts but just dont have the talent.
I am planning on making mince pies though as my family love them.

Question? How do you wrap mince pies etc as mine will be frozen pre xmas.
Where does everyone get hampers/baskets from?

So far I've made 5 litres of sloe gin (not all for presents ;)), 6 jars of sloe jelly, 6 jars of curried fruit chutney and 6 jars of strawberry jam.

I will also be making 3 extra christmas cakes, and I've got a pudding from last year in the pantry (will make another this year to mature).

Just remembered that I am part way through knitting a scarf for my BF, and will make some Twinks & ginger biscuits for the girls in work.

Have you got any large plastic lidded storage container - I got some in Asda from the SmartPrice range. Bit like these but without the clips on the side.
  • I bought a preserving book for a friend this year but what I should have done was got a nice notebook and written down my tried and trusted recipes for her. Can't take the book back because it's a local shop and I would feel very guilty.

Have finished another scarf and am planning to make shortbread and fudge nearer the time.
  • One sock monkey ...... eeekkk.
Totally need to get a move on. Ive bought cupcake things off ebay for my sock/flannel cakes but thats it.
