if you werent happy with the frames then werent you entitled to refund? you had eyes tested at D&A but took prescription to tesco? then returned to D&A who seem to have bent over backwards to help you? i know absulutely nothing about optical dispensing - tolerances whatever - but having worked in retail on and off for about 40 years - I would demand refund from tescos on grounds you werent happy with frames then go back to D&A and get specs from them as they have treated you very well!0

Hi,
Just wondering if I could get some advice here. I've been on tesco opticians (for contacts) for about a year, and thought they were great. I noticed my glasses were not good enough anymore, so went for an eye test. I was told my prescription had increased significantly, so ordered new glasses. Got the glasses, but made me utterly dizzy, got an aftercare re-test and then was told my prescription had not changed on one eye, and decreased on the other! Glasses were changed, but I've kept on going back and forth for 3 months. They still don't feel right.
I went to another opticians for a test, and was given a prescription of even less power (on both eyes) than that Tesco prescribed the second visit (allegedly the correct one where it had actually decreased on one and was the same on the other). Worse even, they looked at the glasses and they were still the increased -incorrect- prescription.
So, I'm fed up of wasting my time going back and forth to tesco and having paid for glasses which 3 months down the line I cannot use and cause me headaches! How can I get them to just give me my money back?
Thanks!!0 -
Thanks Andrew. I went to Tesco today, armed with my prescription from the other opticians, and they very straightforwardly refunded my money. They offered the option of re-doing the glasses, but after so many toings and froings I was fed up. The taxi itself to get there and back today was nearly £20! Pity, as I loved the frames... :-(0

[Tesco Opticians are selling £10.00 prescription glasses..... What a Bargain!!!!
!QUOTE=Becles;discussion/203169]I got my eyes tested at D&A, but due to a rude member of staff on the shopfloor, I went elsewhere to buy glasses.
I chose new frames in Tesco Opticians which were sent away to be made up. I picked them up last weekend. They seemed ok having a quick glance round in store, but when I got home I noticed that close-mid distance was blured through my right eye making it difficult working on the PC which I use a lot for work.
I thought it was an error on the prescription, so I went back to D&A. They retested my eyes and said the prescription was fine, so they checked the glasses for me. The optician said the pupil distance was wrong on the right eye, so I'm not looking directly through the centre of the lense. I was told that as my right eye is considerably worse than my left eye, it is essential the pupil distance is accurate as my eye will not tolerate a small error hence the blured vision.
I've been back to Tesco today. They measured both my eyes again, and the glasses and admitted the pupil distance is wrong. However, the mistake is within "British Tolerance Levels" so they are not prepared to change the lenses. I explained why I need the correct pupil distance, and they even rang my optician and spoke to him who confirmed the glasses are not suitable.
Tesco refuse to budge as the Optical Dispenser says the lenses are within "British Tolerance Levels" so they are not obliged to refund or replace them. I argued and said regardless of British Tolerance Levels, the glasses are not suitable for use as I can't see out of one eye, but he still refused to budge. There was no optician or senior member of staff in the store to ask for further advice.
At the moment Tesco have the glasses as the frame was faulty. They said they will replace the frame but they will not replace the lenses. I was refused a refund as I was told I do not have grounds for one.
Where do I stand now?[/QUOTE]0 -

I have just returned from TESCO, in HAYES Middlesex, after having an eye test.
The first part of the test was carried out by a female who is not qualified to do so, she said she was doing it to save time as the optician had not arrived for work, this was at 9.55am.
I wandered around the store and came back to the desk at 11.15am, the optician had arrived by then.
The glasses are advertised at £10, complete with eye test, but, i was told that the frames would be £10 and the lens would be an extra £45, total £55.
For less than that amount i can, and will, go back to the opticians who supplied my last 2 pairs of glasses, and who are far more professional.
TESCO are best avoided in this department!0 -
Just picked my specs uip from Asda and am very pleased. I got a free eye test from D&A and as everyone has pointed out the cost of their designer frames are extortionate so thanked them and bid farewell
I had my pupil measurement done at Asda presented the prescription and the named designer framed glasses complete have cost me £90 for two pairs. The Early bird may catch the worm ...but its the second mouse that gets all the cheese!0 -
I was almost due for new glasses when I saw the 2 for one offer on designer frames in Tesco early December so I made an appointment for an eye test. I have had varifocals for 2 years now so am well used to them but the reading part was getting a bit weak.
I had my eyes tested and ended up with a bill of 355.00 for the two pairs. I collected my glasses a couple of weeks later and was thrilled with the frames but wasn't too sure about the lenses but was advised I just needed to get used to the new prescription.
I gave it 2 weeks (til just after NY) when I realised that I was having to peer over the top of them to see long distance! Went back, got eyes retested with a different optician who gave a different prescription. Went back yesterday to collect the new ones and I couldn't see anything clearly long distance!
They have now said it is a manufacturering defect and if the next ones are no better I can have my money back. What I really want is glasses that I can see through!
I have to say the customer service has been very good and they have not doubted my lack of decent vision but I'm not sure if I would feel happy trying another supermarket opticians after this. I wondered if anyone else has had this problem re a 'manufacturing defect'0 -

Seems a great service ... apart from not seeing.
I have over the last month had a similar problem with Specsavers.
Three eye tests . one remake of lens and a lot of sympathy.
And the dreadful thing , it was not the fault of the glasses/
Have been wearing the same glasses wrongly ( the glasses have been crooked,
most likely knocked sometime in the distance past ) This is after wearing glasses for over 45 years.
So when i put on new glasses correctly. saw a terrible 'prism' effect.
But did as I was told . and now 48 hours later am delighted with the new glasses
So to hi jack this thread . very happy with Specsavers.
But in your case would stick with Tesco0
