I've worn glasses all the time for years, and I've worn the same pair for driving and PC use/reading with single vision lenses. It's never been a problem until this pair of glasses
Again, thats pretty normal. You can usually wear distance glasses and still carry out your normal reading and pc work if the prescription is not that big. Howevere it wouldnt work if you had say near glasses for reading, you would be able to leave them on for distance work.
Unfortunately yuor eyes do start to deteriorate at any time and if you wear glasses, it make the eyes more reliant upon them. I have avoided glasses for 5 years because I know once i start on them, thats it, forever! I think whats happened in your case is that you eyes have been used to the old spectacles for however long you had them, then when you changed glasses and prescription, then your eyes have started to show things up so to speak.
I dont think you are needing varifocals just yet! (usual age was 40+) but I suspect you are needing a seperate intermediate precription for your pc work.0 -
MikeLB wrote:What brand were they - Tesco usually only supply Ciba Vision (Focus) or Bausch and Laumb. (thought some of the coloured lenses are other major brands. Its a small industry, the same comapnies make the contact lenses for every opticians in one form or another!)
If it is Bausch and Laumb, then you might be interested to know they are having major problems worldwide as reported in the press over the past few months with their lenses causing irritation to some customers. They are expected to loose hundreds of millions of dollars in compensation because of this.
I know about B&L. They make Re-nu don't they. Told my OH to stop using the solution.
I'm sure the original lens supplied by Tesco for him to try were Johnsons?? but those supplied then as monthly ones caused severe irritation and they couldn't give him the same ones he originally tried as the monthly ones were identical and made by the same company. It was in about 2001 when he first started with lenses.
Specsavers were very good and thorough. He has settled on Easy vision all day-all night monthly disposable lens but they gave him loads of options to try to see which he found the most comfortable. He doesn't leave them in for the full 30 days and takes them out regularly and cleans them or to give his eyes a break as he finds he gets dry eyes sometimes. He is very long sighted and finds his vision has detoriated since using lens and he needs stronger contact lens than glasses (cl 8.6 + 3.75 and 8.6+ 4.50).
I on the other hand am short sighted. Bad enough to need glasses for TV, Driving etc. but good enough to not need them day to day. For the last couple of years my eyesight has actually been improving. Optician ruled out Glucoma and said it's old age as you get more long sighted as you get older. I have noticed though that my ability to adjust my eyes when I take off my glasses is getting worse which again I was told is normal.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

I was in Tesco for some groceries this morning and out of curiosity asked the customer service desk what their policy was on refunding glasses. I was told that all glasses come under the 30 day no quibble offer, so I would be entitled to a refund.
Went to the opticians and the man was there. I asked for a refund on the glasses and he said no. I mentioned the 30 day no quibble offer and he coloured up and said he'd forgotten about that, and I could have a refund after all.
Pleased to get my money back and will go back to original optician regarding the prescription. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Great that you got it sorted, just to throw one more thing into the pot as a possible solution,
There is a little found fault with manufactured lenses, (generally when there is an in store lab or lenses are individually ground), called a wave. This basically results in a patch of blurred vision in the lens which you will not be able to focus through. Most advisors wont be able to spot one but the wearer definately will.
The argument is a good one to highlight as quite a lot of people go between 2 opticians and if there is a problem where do you turn ?? I would always go back to where the glasses were purchased as its much more likely the mistake was made at dispense or manufacture than the test, its also relatively quicker to check the specs than you!

When you go for your re-test, make sure you mention your PC work and get tested for that, as it seems that the issue here was the glasses were made for the correct prescription, but the prescription was not for what you needed to use them for.0

I had a FREE Eye test at Tesco's earlier today and I must say that it was the most through eye test I had since I attended the Royal Eye Hospital as a teenager 30 odd years ago. The whole process took nearly 45 minutes for the test and in the end I decided upon a pair of reading glasses which cost £20 including lenses.0

optical tollarences are general margins of error, ie 90% of the population will cope with them - but there is always the other 10%!! the margin allowed depends on the prescription. the measurements are not the responsibility of the prescriber but the supplier (be warned if you buy on line) 2.5mm is a quarter of a centimeter if you have an astigmatism or a high prescription i am not sure that these are in tolllerance!! i am sure the prescription provider would look up the tollerance levels and advise you of this. after persevering with an intollerence such as this to a so called within british tollerance the company i work with would remake the lenses spot on - if we were the origional supplier ... i would expect the same of a competiter once the prescriber had rechecked and intervenedDogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

How did you get a free eye test? did you have a voucher? or was it an in-store promotion?0 -
Excellent service! Great prices!!
Contrary to popular belief, every store is different and you cannot tar everyone with the same brush.
I've been wearing specs since i was 8 and I have been to every high street Opticians and some independents too and the service is never consistent across the board, it all depends on the individual store.
However, based on my experience, I would recommend the Chadwell heath store to anyone living locally. The manager/optician and testing optician are very knowledgeable and helpful. Once again contrary to popular belief, even though it is Tesco, you have to remember the people employed aren't all fresh off the fish counter! The manager and opticians are usually highly qualified and usually recruited from other high street multiples and locums who could be working at any opticians.
Personally, I'm delighted with my glasses and I shall be telling everyone I know!
Should have gone to Tesco!....0 -
I was told that if I was unhappy for any reason I could have a refund within 28 days when I first ordered my glasses, but today was refused as there is technically nothing wrong with them... apart from how uncomfortable they are, despite more than a dozen adjustments!
So does anyone know if this previous post is still valid? Need to know before I write complaint.A result!
