Haha - when i checked my credit report recently, it has a section "these might be you but we're not sure and can't be seen by potential credit providers"

There is maybe 4 catalogue accounts that I have signed up for without realising when I was 12-15. Putting that you're 18 on a website isn't really a big thing so I didn't realise I was applying for credit.

Because the date of birth is different, it doesn't know whether it was me or not.

Sounds like a good life lesson to learn. I'm certainly very good with credit now :p

Erm, yes it is, obtaining goods by entering fraudulent details is illegal!!!
How old are you now that accounts are still on your file from when you were 12-15? don't they come off after 6 years? I've never heard of credit reference agencies putting "this may or may not be you" on a credit report

I want to know why Next are forcing people to open credit accounts, when all they want to do is spend the money they have been given on a gift card.

so you are tempted to buy more from them in the future, so you will sit at home with your nice cup of tea when you get the shiny catalogue that is too heavy to put down and think .... ohhh I can have that, that and that as I have a massive credit limit.....its called a marketing ploy.

For the OP - you must live in a good area, by that I mean one that would look good on a credit check, your daughter then by putting in an over 18 DOB would have looked like a 'good risk'.
I do think though that your daughter should just pay up, what happens if she goes into a pub and trying to pretend she is 18...everything has consequences
    WIN £2008 in 2008 £1836.31 2009 wins - £91!!! 2010 wins in Oz $ 6170.... wins 2011 aprox $2000
MFIT - number 37. Reduce my mortgage from £63,500 to £48,000. now at 54,000...

But the thing is I always paid by credit card (my mum's credit card at this point).. I wasn't asking for a credit account and it wasn't clear that I was applying for one. I still didn't know until last year when I checked my credit report.
I think it was my Experian report, they don't appear on my Equifax report. I'm only 21, I didn't know things get taken off your report after 6 years.
