OS Daily Thread - Saturday 24th October

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Saturday 24th October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS friends,
DianaMattos and Knitty - good to have you with us.
DianaM - Depending on what you want to spend, QVC often have collections of scented candles for under a £5. Something like THIS or THIS? Most people like candles and of course you might find them cheaper in town somewhere. Otherwise, handcream or something like that is always welcome.
Molly - When I am poorly only Heinz Cream of tomato will do for me. Mum only gave us tinned soup if we were ill.
Ivyleaf - OMG I am so sorry I blabbed about the murderer!!
Kazzaw - I use shortcrust as it is the pastry I am best at. I mix the sausage meat with some sage and onion stuffing mix and a chopped pepper and season.
Lamewolf - Well I can report my voice has come home but I think it's had a few hard nights drinking and smoking as I sound a bit like Phyllis from Corrie. (remember her?) Still at least I can talk again.
Nikkei - big supportive hugs, and yes, this job was obviously not the perfect one for you and something better is out there for you. I will download the card pics today.
Jackie - I think the next star happens at 500, and then the next one at 2000 which I just got the other day!! Yay for me! (though I only just noticed last night!)
Thank you for all the comments about the baking. What I should explain is that I do everything sat at the dining table. My home help or OH bring things in and do the oven bit. I just do the weighing, mixing, greasing of tins etc plus timing the things in the oven. It's a team effort. I was really tired though.
Had an adverse reaction to my metformin which started when I got up again on Thursday morning. Since then all I have been able to do is drag myself from the bed to the loo, hence no posting yesterday. I realise now that I obviously went up to four tablets too quickly. I was on 3 for about 3 weeks with no adverse reactions so went up to four on Weds and have not been able to keep anything in since. A great way to lose weight but I really wouldn't advise it.
So, no OS-iness to report although I can confirm that the sausage casserole was absolutely delicious and my OH keeps walking through the house eating a cookie or rock bun and making happy noises so that is good.
OK, well, the BM is on with a cheese and onion loaf in it and so that is lunch sorted and tonight we will probably have pork steaks with mash.
I hope everyones weekend starts gently. With love, light and
for everyone who would like one.

Good Morning MSD and all to follow.Very damp this morning so hence the reason I'm up and about. My joints stiffen up when the weather is bad, and if I don't get up and move around ,even if its only to go to my tiny spare room to surf the net. I would have a job getting out of bed at all if I didn't get up and move a bit. Clocks turn back for an hour tonight so that means the darker nights are with us again.Still its a good time to get the slow cooker on the go for some yummy soups and stews.Plus time to snuggle up in a chair and catch up on reading or t.v.soaps ect. later on this morning I shall be baking some cakes as my tribe of hungry grandchildren are coming to see me this afternoon. It really is astonishing how four little boys can make cakes dissappear before my very eyes.
I have no shopping to get today so I won't be putting my nose outside the door. I have a bit of rib-eye steak that I discovered in the freezer so that will be dinner tonight with mushroons some chopped red onion and salad. I think I might make some selmolina pud as well as I have quite a bit of spare milk at the moment.I like to cook on a saturday or sunday morning for the week as I have my wireless on and can get quite engrossed in it. My right arm is still swollen from the lyphodema at the moment but I like to keep using it as much as I can.I may have to use my food mixer to make some sponge cake mixture though.
I'm slowly working my way through the freezer and I'm hoping I can get it defrosted by Christmas.Just done my Christmas list and already I have about a third of my presents bought but not as yet wrapped.I must put sellotape on the shopping list for Tuesday.I have stack of papaer left over from last year.
Children are on half term this week, and I think we may be having a day out to Dover castle as I bought an English heritage subscription when I was on holiday in August so the boys will get in for free which cuts down the cost of the day out quite a bit.Plus of course we take a picnic and some drinks/flask ect.Helps keep the cost down when there are five children to cater for, though probably Katie will want to go out with her pal Gemma shopping as she's 16 and I don't think castles are really her cup of tea. May also take them to Greenwich Park to gather some conkers, and have a wander around the Maritime Museum.
Well, time I got a wriggle on and had a hot cuppa.have a great day whatever you are doing.<<hugs to those who are sad and blue>>
Take care all

Hi Jackie - sorry to hear your joints are causing you pain. It started to rain about 30 mins ago here too and is coming down really heavily now.
I know what you mean about boys making cakes disappear - my OH is a bit like that despite being the wrong side of 40!
Oh and  Mioliere if you are still online - I know you were lurking earlier and also Aussie whose lil light is on too!

Morning fellow early people,
Wet and windy here, but hopefully clearing later to make a sunny weekend.
3 days off now and plenty to do. A friend should be delivering my Apple computer today which he is trying to convince me to buy. I said I would try it... not sure about the change from PC.
Need to fix the OH car, new battery and thermostat gasket. Was going to do it yesterday but she drove off to teaching supply before I could get my spanners out.
PZ later for the rest of the day. First it's a fry up, so time to get the bacon out.
Cheers folksNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning all
N9eav - mine's a bacon sarnie and a cup of coffee please!
What ridiculous time in the morning is that to be up on a Saturday morning? Hubs has now gone into work and went back to sleep after turning alarm off so woke in a panic and woke me up in the process! Wet and nasty here - think most of the country is starting the weekend in the same way. Will be tackling the ironing and making a start on clearing the children's bedrooms - they both need a really good clearout - deep joy! Woke up today feeling really hungry - hoping that means metabolism is working really hard - diet and weight loss going well but still need to lose more. Will hopefully get time to do some cooking today - made bread yesterday and will make HM ham and mushroom pizza for children's lunch - I'll have my fav salad. When I fetch the newspaper will stop off at the veg stall - live in a rural area and lots of people have big gardens/allotments/land and they grow loads of lovely veg that they sell, man near me sells beautiful big cauliflowers for 50p, butternut squash 50p, marrows, carrots, potatoes, broccolli and cabbages etc - it's fantastic and much cheaper than anywhere else. Made a lovely veg curry last week was really tasty.
Not much else to say so will sign off now.
Keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Morning all. I'm hoping not to go out today although we have no bread and whilst I want to try making a loaf today I'm not sure OH will wait that long.

Goodmorning,
Hope everyone feeling good. Hope you feeling much better MSD. I hate the side-effects of drugs - sometimes they are worse than the condition itself.
I have got help today as kids dad here already. He just taken doggies out for walkies before the rain sets in. They so excited as they get a proper long walk!!!!
I have lots of washing to get through but one load ata time. I have my group today so looking forward to that. Also going to put my pumpkins out and decorate for Halloween...any excuse:rotfl:
Not sure what day will hold and realised I was dreading this weekend after last one. Things always seem to kick off. Anyway lets hope is peaceful and relaxed.

It's a grey and rainy day here, but I'm snug at home watching the news before we start the day. I tell you what, I bought this fleece a few weeks ago and I've not been warmer without a blanket. Let's see what I have to do today...

Visit friends
Buy mushrooms
A bit more mealplanning

Good morning all
Have had two long days at work so not much done apart from one load of washing and bread done in the BM.
So today is definitely a catch-up day. It's pouring with rain at the moment but have nipped out very quickly to top up the bird table.
I've managed to do more weekly meal plans now so all they need is a bit of swapping around when I know what my shifts are. It will certainly help with the shopping though.
Diva - hope things settle down with the Metformin.
JackieO - hope your joints ease up quickly.
Have a good weekend all, (((hugs))) to those who need/want one.
