Toddler having lots of accidents at nursery

Aww my little cousin is like this! He's around the same age and he literally runs everywhere, the problem being that he doesn't stop for walls, steps or other potentially very dangerous obstacles. If he's not watched like a hawk, he'll just run right off my mum's patio which steps down to grass. Don't worry, he will grow out of it, some kids are just clumsy to start off with (and I still am!)Scar tissue that I wish you saw, sarcastic mister know it all, close your eyes and I'll kiss you cause with the birds I'll share this lonely view.0

My DS is 24 but at the age of 15 m to 4 years he was a reguar attender at the A & E department, we used to joke he had his own cubicle, that was whilst he was in my care or being looked after by my mum so I know he wasn't being ignored or not watched properly.
Some children are accident prone, my midddle brother was exactly the same, he injured himself everytime we went out! and my 1 year old nephew has already had his cheek glued after pulling a pece of furniture over on himself climbing.
Good news is both have grown up fine and all those bumps on the head have had no lasting effect and the little one continues to seek out adventure and damage on an almost daily basis as they do!
Try not to worry it's all part of growiing up.0 -
With regard to his shoes, I would check they are still fitting ok. Feet grow so quickly if they are a little illfitting, it could be affecting his stability.
I was continutally falling and tripping at that age and even now will bump into a door frame when I'm going through (spacial awareness not my strong point).
I worked in a nursery for 7 years and we had the odd one or two who were almost daily in the accident book and then others who were never.:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0 -
I know someone who's son was rather accident prone and it was to do with his actual ability to maintain his balance.Payment a day challenge: £236.69

Hi
Whilst some kids are more accident prone than others, it may be worth considering having his eyesight checked.-0 -
My DD was very accident prone at this age and right up to school i was signing the accident book at pre school about 3 times a week.
I would suggest getting his eyesight checked though, I was accident prone as a toddler and it turned out to be because I needed glassesMFW Start Sep 07 £79484, Now £587740 -
My son is 4 and was EXACTLY the same - he still is. Every other day he is sent home at the end of the day from school with an accident report. He does everything at 100mph and never looks where he ois going. Took him to the opticians, eyesight fine - he's a typical lad!Avon Representative October 2010: C16: £276 :T C17: £297 :j0

I agree check out all the things others have suggested- eyesight, shoes, outdoor area but it will probably just be that he is just a little clumsy.
I am a Nursery teacher- we have to list all accidents in our book- if a kid says they bumped their head- even if there is no mark- we have to list it. It's probably that it's a little fall that you would just rub better and not worry about but Nursery can't do this- just in case.
We have to get parents to sign our accident book too and log any near misses- so even if an accident didn't happen!!! (and people wonder why we don't have time to teach!-LOL)0 -
It goes in in phases, I can be called 4 times in a week, or 4 times in a 3 month period. I think also sometimes as they have growth spurts that sometimes compromises the centre of balance. My son walked very early....but he walked to what he wanted, it's like he didn't see all the toys in his path, it got that bad I went to see my dr as I was worried, he banged his head 3 times in about 10 minutes while I was talking to himOh....I'm not going to lie to you......At the end of the day, when alls said and done......do you know what I mean.........TIDY0

Does he have a cld/ recently had a cold as if your ears are a bit blocked then this can make you extra clumsy, and it is the time of the year for it.
Other than that, I would just agree with others that nursery have to be extra cautious and note down tiny things, when with our own we would dust them down and forget it in 2 seconds.
Another thing is maybe he is just really excited at being with the other children. Little ones (and big ones) often forget themselves when their friends are about and get really silly and excitable!0
