Toddler having lots of accidents at nursery

My little boy is 17 months. He goes to nursery for two full days a week, and started 3 months ago. On average, one day out of these two days I have to sign the accident book because he's fallen over and bash his head on something. Normally when he is running around outside, and he slips over.
Is this normal/average? I know toddlers have accidents. He falls over when he's with me as well. But not every other day! I'm just curious about other people's opinions because me and OH have different views.

My son was in the accident book probably 3-4 times a wk when he was that age. In preschool at nursery it was once a wk and was normally following an argument about a toy. He has not been in the accident book (that I know of) in 7 wks at reception. My little one is 20 months old and is so accident prone it's almost beyond a joke. But he never cries, just gets up and gets on with it? We went for a walk last weekend and he fell in a patch of nettles.... we had no idea until his forehead came up with a nettle rash - lol.
Don't worry - it's normal.

hmmmm - difficult one this - toddlers of that age do fall a lot! but to bump head each time and it always happens outside?
have you inspected the outside area hun? are there hazards there like patios which aren't level? or drain covers poking up?
does the nursery have cctv? ask to see it.
I would be concerned if i were you and would look to the nursery to reassure me their grounds are safe - dont rely on health and safety inspections!
oh and i am not a new mum - my kids are grown up and i have six grandkids.0 -
Check his shoes too. I once bought my little boy a pair of ordinary looking trainers, from Mothercare of all places. Trouble was that when the ground was damp they were lethally slippy. Mine went to nursery 3 days a week, and I reckon I used to sign the book once a month or every two months. He still looked like a battered child with bruises all over his legs, but that was just everyday stuff.
He started school in September, and it's a whole new activity level. His legs are once again covered in bruises, and I had the first banged head form last week. It's always his head that gets it, even when I'm looking after him myself.0 -
It is normal at this age. They tend to like to run everywhere (when they are just mastering walking properly!!) and consequently will fall quite a lot. It is good the nursery are recording the incidents though and making you aware

It seems a bit frequent to me. I have 3 boys and used to be a registered childminder. In the whole time I childminded (3 years) I only had 2 incidents in my accident book. I only had to sign the nursery accident book once (and that was between all of my 3 children).
I would be concerned.

I have had to sign it once in a year for my little girl, but I am sure when my DS gets older it will be a lot more frequant.
With my little brother we were at the hospital every other week with him, he was just very accident prone, if someone hurt themselves it would be him lol0 -
It is normal for young children to have accidents because they are still developing their gross motor skills and co-ordination. I would not worry too unduly, but you should just keep an eye on the situation.0
