You shouldn't have to commit fraud. Just get a quote for the job, then write to them, send a copy and ask the garage to pay up! Then get the job done.
If they don't pay up, threaten them with county court action, and if this fails, proceed to the legal action. Put in the particulars of the claim that they agreed to reimburse you the insurance excess, but you aren't prepared to make a false insurance claim as the damage was done (and hidden) prior to you owning the car.0 -
Annabel - why not tell him the excess on your windscreen is £150. See how happy he is to pay that !0

Just to let u know the outcome of this event. I emailed trader to say was not going to commit fraud asking him to arrange replacement/repair to screen. He called me asked me why I was being awkward/difficult/nasty. I said I was not being any of those things and that I had done nothing wrong. He rang me back to say needed to leave the car with them for 2 days I said would want expenses re lost work time travelling costs i. e. petrol and train expenses also questioned why it would take two days, said also would need to take pics to be sure no changes occurred . Stuck to guns and he rang back day later to ask what day /time i wanted to bring it in for replacement screen. RESULT:T Took car to garage picked up in two hours as he and colleague were valeting vehicle. Thanks so much to you all for your imput. Even if I did not follow your advise I still valued your contribution.Thanks.;)0

...Took car to garage picked up in two hours as he and colleague were valeting vehicle. ...
Well done! :T
As it's a bonded screen, it should be left for about 2 hours before driving to allow the adhesive to set.
I hope they didn't wash the car after replacing windscreen.
Normal advice is not to wash car for at least 24 hours
(but they never say anything about keeping it out of the rain?
Perhaps it's more to do with exerting pressure on the screen rather than letting it get wet?)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
O/P will be happy and have the least hassle
Dealer will be happy
Glass replacement company will be happy getting the business
Insurance company will be out about £50 and be happy to have resolved a problem for their customer.
Not seeing the problem personally.
You buy something, it's ALREADY damaged, and then you claim frauduenty on insurance to get it repaired/replaced? The OP would be caiming on insurance that was not in place until a certain time on a certain date, and is going to claim for something that occurred before that time. What is the difference between that, and say, having your uninsured house totaly flooded by a leaky dishwasher/washing machine, and THEN insuring your house against flood damage and making a claim? Both instances are insurance fraud.
Yes, all those who benefit from it will be happy......except us honest mugs out there who do things by the law, and end up having to pay for dishonest dealings like this through our premiums.
Well done to the OP for going the honest route - making the person responsible for it actually cough up for it. Well done you!0
