    Thanks, that sheds more light into it. It sounds like Ryanair only charged the fee retroactively, once the money was debited from my account. That's why they insist it is nothing to do with them, as all their invoices show no debit card charge (but my statement does show the charge). The fact is, I only use my Electron card for Ryanair, so there is no risk of confusion there, but they won't accept my statement and are only looking at their invoices.

    Do you actually know that it is them that is making the charge? It sounds to me like it is one word against another, and you need to pursue both avenues, not just make assumptions.

    Thanks, that's a good point, but why would they ask me for a copy of my Electron card if they weren't responsible, and then stop charging me soon after? It seems to me that their system was unable to recognise my card as an Electron card, which is why they asked me to produce a photocopy of the card.

    I've had a look around on the web, and it seems I am not the only one who's had this problem (but the others have given up!)

    You are reading too much into the fact that you are no longer changed, there is nothing that Ryanair can do to ensure that an individual card is (or is not) charged a particular fee.

    How much have you been charged? Were the transactions in GBP?

  • If the transaction wasn't in GBP, then it'll be a bank charge. It seems rather mysterious that Ryanair would send you an invoice for xGBP and then in fact charge you yGBP instead - and I'm certain Ryanair wouldn't dare to do such sharp practices.

    Who is the issuer of the card? And what is the first 4 digits?

    Ok, that might well be the reason. But then, why is Ryanair not making this clear? They could have saved me lots on time and inconvenience if they said that before. And why do they keep charging in euros if we buy from the UK?
    If I am in the UK and buy a ticket from Spain to the UK, I'm charged in euros, if I buy from the UK to Spain and I'm still in the UK, I'm charged in Sterling. Should we not be charged in sterling all the time if we buy from the UK?

    What do you mean, Ryanair isn't making it clear? What's not clear about it? You buy the flight in Euro, Zloty, Forints or whatever - and this is made clear. For instance, a dummy booking now -

    Going Out (Web Fare)
    1 Adult @ 99.99 EUR99.99 EURTaxes/Fees [URL="javascript:feesTaxes_breakDown('1')"]details[/URL]18.72 EUR
    1 x (Web Check in)5.00 EURTotal Cost of Flight123.71 EUR
    That's pretty clear that the flight is charged in Euro, not in Zloty.

    They charge in Euro for your flights from Spain because the flight orignates in Spain. It's really not difficult to understand that Spain uses the Euro, is it?

    The fee charged by your bank is nothing to do with Ryanair. Take it up with your bank - it certainly isn't a Ryanair issue that you're being charged to use Euro.

    (surprise, surprise, yet another Ryanair bashing thread based on something that's the consumer's fault rather than the airlines!)

    Ryanair WASTED MY TIME, they should have said straightaway what the problem was, initially they even offered me a refund! They had me writing countless letters, if they are so clever why didn't they point out the problem in the first place? They even asked me to send a photocopy of my Electron card, why do you think they would have done so? They were incompetent and unhelpful. If you want to be Michael O'Leary's spokesman, that's up to you (in fact you might well be in this forum because you are paid by Ryanair) but I don't think that mistreating people is the right way to go about it!

    I think if you were in the UK and watched Panorama a couple of weeks ago, you'd be surprised what Ryanair is up to, hidden card charges being one of them
