The problem with relying on last Minute bargains is that if you do not get any there is no where else to go.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

We shopped at M&S on Christmas Eve 2007. I have to say it was very quiet, almost eerily so.
We were driving back from Manchester to the South Coast and were just past Crewe when we got a call to say that my nieces were ill, can't remember what it was but we all agreed it wasn't appropriate to take our then 6m old to the planned family christmas. So there we were, family of 5 with nothing in the fridge because we'd been away for a week and thought we were going to be catered for. Cue one pre-roasted chicken, assorted veg and various bits which I magically transformed into a passable Christmas dinner.
Would I do it again? Absolutely NO!Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

I left buying my turkey till christmas eve a couple of years ago ......work and fridge space influenced this absurd decision. Anyway, off I jaunt to Tesco, nice and early, not a turkey in site. Never mind still only 9am so asda got a visit ...and iceland ...and waitrose ...and the other tesco...and the other asda (right over the other side of town)...coop ....budgens and finally in desperation ..M&S. It was about 3pm by now and panic setting in, 10 for christmas dinner and no turkey. Imagine my relief on finding a row of large fresh free range turkeys sitting in the fridge section. And yippee this time of day they'll even be reduced, how wrong could I be. £65 with no reduction, still it was christmas and the last turkey in town so in the trolley it went. The one consolation was it would taste bloody marvellous.
....... no, the Aldi goose we also had was more tasty than the turkey, it really was a turkey!0 -
I now don't bother with Tescos or Sainsburys, everything has gone by 12pm, any later and your not only paying full price, your buying things you didn't want to buy and only because they have sold out of everything else!0

Christmas Eve 2007 got a Sainsburys Norfolk Black Free Range Turkey reduced from about £60 for £5 and a couple of smaller free range Bronze ones again for a fiver i could have had more if i had the freezer space.... loads on shelf for a fiver.....however forward twelve months to Christmas Eve 2008 ......Zilch !! even though there apearred to be loads on the shelves at the Sainsburys i was told head office had said they weren't to reduce them below half price (still a bargain to some i suppose.... but i didn't want to pay £30 for a turkey)
I even popped back into local Sainsburys at about 5pm and they still had loads on shelves not reduced and the shop was supposed to close at six and there was only about half a dozen people in the store. So i dunno what they did with them.0 -
I have worked in M&S as seasonal staff, and can indeed confirm that by the end of the day, there's practically nothing left on the shelves, people just seem to panic buy during the holiday period.
I'll never forget the queues outside the store at 7am on christmas eve when I worked there. The people quueing almost looked like they were ready to run a race with the shopping trolleys....0 -
Our local M&S my neighbour said last year opened at 6am and she thought it would be fun to go along and get her last bits and be in the festive feeling, she said that she a) could not get the car anywhere near the parking area b) from the end of the queue you couldn't even see the M&S store and c) everyone was irritated and ratty that it was so early in the morning, cold and queing and there was no festive spirit:rotfl::D in the end she got back in her car, waited loads to get home with the traffic and will never repeat again, never managed to get anywhere near the store:rotfl:0
