How much does it cost to feed your dog?

I tried introducing Arden Grange, as after a week his poos were still dark green with the Pero puppy. They went brown, but then very very sloppy, so we are back at square one with pets at home mixed with pero, poos are formed but still dark green.
I am wondering if one of the cereals or meats in the above foods dont suit? He isnt interested in Burns.
Today in the Pet Shop a breeder recommended Royal Canin Mini Junior or Hills Natural diet puppy. Anyone any observations on these?0 -

What breed is he? How old?
Hills and Royal Canin are both very good diets, but rather pricey - there are cheaper alternatives out there which are just as good. I would always recommend feeding a type specific diet, ie large breed or puppy diet.
As for changing his food over - yes it may well give him the runs if not done gradually - I usually recommend taking at least 7-10 days.... obviously a bit difficult if he is picking out one brand though! :rolleyes:I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
RIP POOCH 5/09/94 - 17/09/070 -
i'm not going to add up how much I spend, if I don't add it up it can't be that much!
but I do know its alot!0 -

They also do a more expensive puppy food, which is described as 'super premium' and hypoallergenic; CP21, at £33.40 per 15kg:
...however, the PAH brand is more expensive than either of these - the equivalent amount (15kg) of PAH puppy food would cost £43.50! (based on £28.99 for a - 10kg bag.) - personally, I would far rather feed the Natural little champ, with more meat and no colourants, and save £30 a bag in the process!
FC, "meat meal" is not the same as meat so it's unfair to compare Little Champ with the PAH premium (silver bag), tho I absolutely agree meat meal is preferable to derivatives and colourants! I also think you might be looking at the ingredients from the basic PAH puppy food that Peaches has with the price of the premium on the website.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

hmm - I found it online and I believe I quoted the ingredients and the price of the same product - I will double check tho!0 -

FireFox - you are right - I have double checked though and I cannot find a puppy food from PAH (online) which matches the one peachespeaches describes in her post! I am confused now!
Peachespeaches, how much did you pay for that? I still reckon the Little Champ looks better quality though - what do others think?0 -

I suspect PAH no longer stock the basic puppy food Peaches listed the ingredients for, or at least they don't sell it online: I was confused too.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

Arden grange is a premium food as such it really is very rich and needs a very slow introduction over 10 days. Just a wee handful change at a time, make sure poos stay brown and formed ( or as close to formed pup has had) and then up the amount - keep at that level for a day or two. if the poos stay firm, up the amount again. Keep going very gradually and only increase the amount of new food when you have formed poo. If it stays runny, keep at the mix you have for a few more days before increasing again
You should find that once you do get changed fully on to Arden grange you will get tiny firm poos - and I mean tiny. My Cocker poos twice a day and sometimes I really have to search for it its that small0 -

They do stock it, I have seen it on the shelves, but it is not available online. It was one of the cheaper ones though, I didnt buy it, it came from the breeder with the pup, so I was obliged to keep it going for a while. Pero gave him dark green poo so he is now being phased onto James WEllbeloved duck and rice.0
