When our street had to have our drains cleared a month or so ago Mr Dyno-Rod said we should all move to liquid washing detergents, as at the low temperatures the powders just didn't disolve properly, blocking up the machines and the drains,
And therefore not washing clothes properly - which is why I don't wash at low temperatures. 40c does the job.0 -
ive merged this with our whites thread which is full of helpful tips

or just all stop bothering about things looking really white? I use HM laundry gloop and wash on 30 or dissolve the gloop in a jug of hot water then wash on cold.0

I only wash colours on 30C, I would never wash whites on less then 40C. I also put a wash on on 60C when I wash bed sheets, with bio liquid. I believe it keeps the washing machine in shape.
My whites are generaly fine, the only problem I have is when my white tshirts are older they look it due to greyish marks under the armpits.. Tried all sorts, but I think I will just have to replace them all.0 -
Hi guys,
I ended up with 132 washes of Ariel Actilift (special offer at Costco), but just realised it is non-bio!
I have recently started to notice more and more yellow stains on my white tops and on advice started to use bio on my whites. And also soda crystals. But nothing seems to make much of a difference, though the bio probably helped a little.
I use 40C and 60C (sheets and shirts) programs only.
What am I doing wrong? And how to best use these non bio Ariel? Something I can add to make it more effective for whites?

Try a couple of tablespoons of Napisan0

What is Napisan? Where do you get it?0

You'll find it in the baby stuff aisle in the supermarket. It's for soaking/washing terry nappies. It's also excellent for brightening whites, even in cold water.0
