My mum struggles with her oh and mother for that too, her OH is a nightmare for picking a lumps of meat, not interested in the veg or potatoes just the meat, while her mother always wants 'just a little bit' of something sweet, trouble is her idea of 'little bit' is vastly different to most peoples, last time she came to visit me I'd bought a cake, portioned it up for everyone with a couple of bits left for my oh and I to take to work the next day, wandered off after we'd eaten and came back to find my nana tucking in to the last piece because "that bit I had earlier was miniscule and I wanted a bit of something sweet with my tea" apparently the cookies I put out next to her tea pot were invisible (and for a lady who can't walk without a pair of sticks, and doesn't have the manual dexterity to open a screw top container it was amazing how well she got in to the airtight container I struggle to open!).
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Just like my house...I cooked 3 ham hocks on Sunday...had a huge dinner with them...plated my OHs dinner up (hes a coach driver) and was still at work...when he got back he didnt want the whole dinner just sandwiches with all the meat off the plate and the rest I had been saving for a chicken and ham pie the next day....I was so p****d off...how am I supposed to bring the food bill down when this happens...I also have 6 kids to feed ...all have hollow legs...and despite baking loads and full cupboards and freezers they are always moaning there is nothing to eat :mad::mad::mad::mad:

  • Lol, I have 3 teen boys and all of them are pretty good, they know they are not to take the last of anything without checking and make sandwiches, beans/cheese on toast, soup or noodles as hot snacks without needing to ask. They are 18,16 and 12 and have always done this.
My husband however sleep eats (luckily mainly chocolate, biscuits or crisps so no major meal damage).
Real men never follow instructions; after all they are just the manufacturer's opinion on how to put something together. :p

lol! My OH is the gannet, my boys aren't, yet (10 and 14, like whippets, I do feed them, honest, but it's like feeding foie gras geese, it's hard work):o

Hiding things at back of fridge behind random stuff he wouldn't eat?buying a little fridge and keeping it in the garage, he'd never look in there surely?! You could tel him it doesn't work, he'd never guess (mine wouldn't anyway):rotfl:

We all joke my OH has fork stab wounds in his hands from trying to pinch our food if we don't eat fast enough, that's maddening too:eek:
  • I'd be inclined to put enough aside seperately for you the next day, and if OH eats the rest dish him up a bowl of soup whilst you tuck into a "Proper" dinner. When he asks where his is, tell him he ate it last night.

    I agree with poly.

You could also make his lunchtime sandwiches without the filling - stick a note in the wrapper to say why.

Could you cook up a big bowl of rice or similar, out a dollop of cheap sauce on it, with a note saying "eat me"?

Then if they go for the meat give them just the veggies at the next meal (make sure your portion includes some meat).

By the way, this comes from someone who lives with just a cat.:D

My friends both have husbands who are out all day on farms and gamekeeping. What they do is make sure that they serve soup first to fill up on - and the main meal is really just tasting - albeit with a pile of carbs!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
  • Hide a coolbox/lunchbox with an ice pack at the back of a cupboard/in garage/utility room etc and stuff whatever you NEED to keep, in there till the next day.......
I know because I've been there, done that - and still do!

This is SO my Grandmother! She's partially sighted, supposedly can't move far, and yet can always manage to find the biscuits/cakes/chocolate that i'm storing in a top cupboard that I can't reach without a step?!
