Windows 7 is good, although I am having a lot of trouble finding a Realtek driver that will install and work without the red page coming up. Even though I know the drivers are safe it still comes up...
I much prefer 7 to Vista, easier to install, easier to use, much easier as I usually have lotsof applications running (researching uni work is a LOT easier now when going between FF, Adobe and Word)
Which Realtek driver are you trying to install?0 -
I installed Windows 7 on my Sony laptop yesterday. The installation went well and Windows 7 rocks along - a complete contrast to Vista.
However, have a couple of issues have not been able to resolve yet which, I believe, are down to driver issues. I can't enable Aero which I want to use in order to use the taskbar the way I want. Also, the Fn keys refuse to work so I can't adjust the brightness. My volume button isn't working at present either.
I need to update the drivers but can only find updates for XP and Vista at Sony support. Have sent a support email but heard nothing back yet. I did read somewhere that the Vista updates would be OK but don't want to risk it.
The new OP itself is great but just need a few things sorting.
Have you done Windows Update yet?
Yes, I know it sounds a daft question on a new product, but there are some.
For instance, I installed W7 RC on a Dell laptop a few weeks ago (clean on a separate partition). The screen seemed to be on a dim setting and I had no control of brightness. When I started looking this up, several people had it. Also, there seemed to be a missing element on a small panel for controlling this and other settings like volume and so on.
But after being online for a while, I got Windows Update appear, and after installing those items the screen brightness was normal and I had access to other settings.
Then I installed the released version a couple of days ago. To begin with it seemed a step back - now I had only 2 screen resolution options, which was worse than before, and because that screen has a wider aspect ratio nothing was properly square or round that should have been. But then after Windows Update I also had the wanted 1280x800 option rather than be stuck with 1024x768
I haven't tried all the functions of the PC yet, so there could still be a missing driver for something, but as it's done updates on ATI Radeon, Broadcom and Ricoh drivers it seems to be on top of things so far
So if you haven't done it yet, try WU before spending time looking elsewhere0
