Don't forget about a third of students drop out at the end of the first term from many uni's
Plus people resitting there exams from June might be doing them this Christmas and won't be counted as unemployed until they've completed.
And if Christmas goes poorly then many places will be looking to drop staff in the new (and new financial) year
Not to be gloomy or anything.Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. Anne Lamott
It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.0 -

You mean pensioners'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
No I mean the people on benifits other than JSA. Single mums, those disabled people who used to claim JSA but were forced onto disability as it fudges the figues etc.
You mean that scam that the Tory govt brought in to pretend that unemployment wasn't so bad

The Tories were very keen that the unemployment headline figure should look better so pushed people onto 'the sick'.
Perhaps time limiting unemployment benefits would be a better way to do things.0 -
I was having a thought about the unemployment figures earlier.
We have seen them recently rise, but I wondered what was happening to actual employment figures.
It would seem that there are a number of indicators pointing that actually there are far more people employed nowadays than previously, even though enemployment is rising.
To clarify: -
1) Net migration - This has been increasing for a number of years and projections are that these are to continue to increase

Consider that there are approximately 2 million more people in the UK than in 2001, increasing on average by 325,000 each year
http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?ID=950
2) People are living and working for longer

Accepted that unfortunately unemployment has risen from circa 1.6 million to 2.5 million, but this is only a rise of less than one million.
We have seen the popultion increase by two million in the last 8 years and we know that there are increasing older people working, far outweighing the number made unemployed.:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach.
