I think it depends on the children. We were in Turkey earlier in the year and our children are 12, 10 and 2. The hotel served mainly Turkish food, but our children tucked in and tried all sorts of new dishes. However there was another family who kept complaining every meal time as they wanted things like fish fingers and chicken nuggets and they refused to try any of the Turkish food. They seemed to have chips for nearly every meal.

Even when my children went abroad as babies, they just ate mushed up local food, to save dragging loads of baby food jars with us.

Yep we did the exact same thing. I'm a terrible fussy eater, and after realising the kids were copying me, we've made a very big effort to make sure they try new and different foods. they're always told try it and if you don't like it you can spit it out ( this is at home of course)
But when we did our first foriegn holiday last yr the kids had the chance to try lots of stuff they wouldn't have at home, like squid and rabbit. All four them happily tried new foods and while they wasn't keen on eveything they tried, try it they did. Always tell them at least now they can honestly say I don't like ***** and I know that because I've tried it

Well. I do not eat it.

It would be nigh impossible not to eat it, Danish Bacon, Banana's, Oranges, Tea, Coffee, the list is endless. ;)

I find it impossible to believe that he doesn't eat anything imported ;)

I can imagine it now...none of that foreign muck for him, just proper Danish bacon, French sausage meat, Italian tomatoes, Polish eggs and Spanish orange juice... ;) And for afters, a nice cup of Ceylon tea along with some marzipan...

Even that nice bottle of Guinness he drank last week was imported...
    From Poland...with love.

    They are (they're)
    sitting on the floor.
    Their
books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.
  • and the ham sandwich in the pub at lunchtime, containing european ham, dutch lettuce, irish butter and bread with added gm soya flour from the US, finished off with a New Zealand apple, irish cheddar and a czech beer...

We have not been self sufficient in food since the end of the second world war. Everything's foreign, even the 'English' stuff, where, if you check the label, the ingredients (eg, the turkey in a nugget) is Bulgarian, the carcasse is then imported to Norfolk, mixed with various compounds obtained from overseas and the resultant nugget is labelled 100% English.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Agreed, but don't think nuggets count as any kind of foodstuff, foreign or otherwise.

Well when I come back to Malaysia I have to bring square sausage , haggis a plain loaf and black pudding with me for my Malaysian neighbour. She got hooked on it while in Edinburgh and is quite delighted she can get it a couple times a year.

So what do you eat and have you looked to see where it comes from?

Hope she tells your insurance company that she's planning on filling the case with potentially stinky liquid. Perhaps when she realises she has just invalidated your insurance she may see a little sense.

Do you have a reference for this or did you just make it up?

Take an empty bottle and fill it with the local stuff when you get there.
