  • Hey that's how I do my housework, I must look crazy as I prance around to my music, sometimes pretend I am on stage!!! My reward is a chapter or two of my latest book, this always spurs me on as I'd much rather recline on my sofa than hoover under it! Keep going MG you are an inspiration
  • No idea - but recipes are available here http://www.abelandcole.co.uk/recipes/kohlrabi which sounded quite nice to me - particularly the gratin (with the potatoes!).

So glad you've got your cupboards fuller - at least you'll know you can keep going for a bit in any case.

    OMG barbabybear!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This says that I might have been elegible for help with my mortgage interest from 13 weeks after my first claim in April!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How come no-body told me about this when I made my claim????????

Guess where I will be queing up outside on Monday morning first thing??

Having said that I have come to the conclusion that the only way to get myself and the boys back on an even keel is to get straight back to work again and pronto.

Don't think it will be easy finding a job that I can juggle around school runs and a breast feeding baby - so that will be an interesting challenge.

Think being self employed may have to be the alternative as I can work around school runs and when the boys are asleep.

Wonder how much I have to earn before I begin to be better off - after all I'm sure the benefits people don't let you earn a penny before they start deducting it from your benefits.

Is there someone here who can help me work that out.

TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY OF OPERATION BACK-TO-WORK

I'm off to start brainstorming some ideas to generate money.

PS Thank you everyone who has taken some of their presious time to respond to my ramblings. You have no idea how happy it made me when you started throwing in all your ideas to the pot.

On my own, two wee laddies and completely adrift in the whole benefits issue as I'd never before in my life claimed a penny. KNowing there is at least somewhere to go for advice is worth every penny I don't have :rotfl:

Income support is a trigger benefit for a whole load of others.
Another poster queried why you are paying council tax - income support and the child related benefits are for day-to-day bills food/electricity etc - other benefits cover council tax http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/On_a_low_income/DG_10018923 and housing (in your case I think it would be SMI whereas for someone in rented it would be the new housing benefit LHA). There is a benefit board where you'll get advise from people who know the system, I think council tax benefit can be backdated.... which might mean what you've unnecessarily paid may cover past arrears....

The council tax that I am paying this year covers the water partof the bill (in Scotland the council tax and water comes all together). From memory about £350 in all.

The other amount for Council Tax is for last year - took a long time to get bill sorted as property was derelict when we took possession. In the end they didn't allow me any discounts except single persons - despite the fact that we haveonly had nice things like walls, doors, running water and central heating (grant job) over the last 6 weeks.

    You couldn't make it up.

I will go and double check everything with them tomorrow.

    Many thanks "My Everyday Angels"
