It's for my wife who knows nothing about cars so it makes absolutely no difference to her!0 -
...At the time I was admittedly a bit dubious about the Service History but I was assured that it was complete ...
... It is possible that the car has been serviced independantly since but there is no service book and, therefore, no proof...
What service history does it have? If there is none available, then it clearly does not conform to contract.
The fact you were assured it was a complete service history also means it does not conform to contract, but the difficulty there is proving it was said it came with a complete service history."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Is a mini cooper a performance car.....?:rotfl:
You could argue that you had a verbal agreement on the sale that the car did have complete history, though complete doesn't mean full.
I think depending on the type of Garage / Size etc you may get some or all of your cash back.
My concern would be that you were in a hurry to spend £7k and didn't give the car or it's details the attention they require.
Based on this, if you don't get any or all of your money back, you should put this down as experience and not be so quick to handover your money next time....;)0 -

What's the difference?
You could say that complete means service history with all of the receipts for those services rather than just a stamp in the book (see point below).
or
Complete means the cars been serviced annually
and
Full means serviced exactly according to the service schedule.
Many people (inc traders) advertise a car as having FSH or FDSH and often what should have been changed (Timing Belts / Brake Fluid Changes etc) hasn't been done at all.
I'm currently looking at 5 year old Seats / VW's and these should all have had a Cambelt change by now and most of them haven't but are advertised as FSH....:mad:0 -
I should have said it is a Mini Cooper S (not Cooper) so it is a bit quicker although not quite an Evo or an STi!
michaelro you are absolutely correct I shouldn't have been in such a hurry when looking at the car. No excuses but I have learnt not to take the kids with me when looking at cars in the future!
P.S Funnily enough I was also looking at Seats and VWs (similar price range to the Mini, dependant on miles). The top of the range turbo diesels are particularly impressive in both ranges!
It is very open to interpretation what "service history" and "full service history" mean.0 -
I can't believe a Mini could ever be described as a performance car!!
Anyhooo...
You could have a look at the documentation the dealer is holding.
You may find a whole pile of receipts for filters, belts, pads, etc for the work which has been done on the car.
There are a lot of entirely competant car owners who prefer to conduct their own servicing who do not appreciate enormous dealer prices for checking washer fluid levels and tyre pressures.
Personally, I would much rather see a wedge of receipts for work invested inthe car and no Service Book stamps, than a book full of stamps and no supporting paperwork

When the missus isn't looking I will turn the Mini (whichever we get) into a decent car, you mark my words! You could have a look at the documentation the dealer is holding. You may find a whole pile of receipts for filters, belts, pads, etc for the work which has been done on the car.
Unfortunately not alot of receipts there!Personally, I would much rather see a wedge of receipts for work invested inthe car and no Service Book stamps, than a book full of stamps and no supporting paperwork
I absolutely agree!!!All I want to know/confirm is that the car has been looked after until now but all the dealer has managed to do so far is leave a message for the previous owner to call him back. If he can prove to me that the car has been looked after then I will happily hand over the rest of the money! It is frustrating because I want the car but I have taken the risk on the service history front before and that ended up costing me alot of money.
