My guess here would be that the virus could possibly be stored in the system restore folder..
before you heal /delete it next time check its location.. if the location is the sys restore folder then you would have to turn off system restore and then back on for the virus to disappear..
it could also be a very persistant little !!!!!! and be reinstalling itself aswell
name of the virus would be helpful in this instance and also what version of windows you are running...0 -
thanks, will record and post name of virus next time, and i am windows xpNice to save.0

What file is infected? Maybe you should delete it instead of healing it?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

agree with primeramikey and browntoa....
1)update your antivirus definitions
2)dissable system restore (http://www.pchell.com/virus/systemrestore.shtml)
3)startup in Safemode and do a virus scan
btw, if the process above doesnt work, give us the name of the virus... might help more0 -
hello, i am really a nutter, when i have to do something a bit teccy.
managed to get as far as disable system restore, then started to panic when i went into set up menu, afraid that i would do something wrong and it would be irreversible, so just abandoned idea.
would be grateful if someone could show me steps to run virus scan in safe mode. thanks.
btw the virus' are Adware Generic EIY
and Adware Generic BSYNice to save.0 -
So you have AVG ok follow these few steps.
Safe Mode, On restart of the PC tap F8 then just choose option Safe Mode (usually located at the top of the List on the black screen) then click Yes at the next promt to agree to run in safe mode, Run the Antivirus scan, with AVG, Start, All Programs, AVG Free Edition, AVG Free Edition For Windows, Scan Computer, Then Run Adaware as normal, and then reboot the PC as normal when both scans are complete.
Note XP in safe mode will turn off system restore on all drives by default so no need to do that seperately, just remeber when PC is restarted after finishing the AV scan to turn restore back on.0
