I have an Australian friend who has sent me an Adobe file of her family tree (which we have been jointly researching) via an e-mail.
The thing is that I am new to this lark of copying/burning data onto disk. I have (more by luck than management) managed to burn music to a disk, but really haven't the foggiest how to copy or burn this Adobe file which has text and photos.
I have copied the Adobe file to my desktop, so where do I go from here?

Anyone have any ideas on this? I have tried saving it to my memory pen but it comes up gobbledegook in Word.
Where am I going so wrong?0 -
When you say adobe file do you mean a pdf document or is it a psd?
Also are you burning it to disc as a back up?
Either way it will be classed as data in your burning software.
So what ever burning software you are using insert blank cd open burning software choose make data disc browse to your adobe file and insert into project and click burn job done.
ps:
Why would you open an adobe file in word?
If it's pdf you would open in adobe acrobat reader & psd photoshop.0 -
It must be opened in the adobe software, when you open up nero there should be an option to burn data, or use the windows xp built in tool by just draggin in to the drive letter and hitting burn

It seems to be a pdf document - Adobe 7.
With regard to opening an adobe file in word - I just tried everything I could think of ... I am not too hot on this burning lark.
Just trying to get some form of backup copy done, as the last one she sent me was lost when my machine crashed big time!0 -
If you have received a pdf file you really need to use Adobe Reader and not Word.
As for backing up the file, it's just another data file, so use your burning software as you have done before or click on Help if you are not sure. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Sorry on reading my ps: it came accross a bit stuffy I didnt mean it that way.
Anyways I think you should have it sussed now after all the replies.
We all seem to be on the same wave length.
Post again if you still cant get this sorted.0 -
Many thanks for all the suggestions. I have Adobe Reader already on my computer, but thanks anyway for the link.
Not got this sussed yet. When I try how I think it should be done to copy or burn the file, I keep getting a message which states that I have the wrong kind of disk. I have Infiniti Compax blank disks and I have put on the tub "CD's for copying/burning data", which is what I was told in the shop.
PS: Sorry to be so thick over this = duh!!!!!0 -
what software are you using to burn the disc...
and i know this sounds a daft question but i know people who have done this before.. are you sure you are putting the disc in the correct side down..
once you tell us the software you use to burn discs it will make it easier for us to tell you how to do it, as all software is different..
also is it a cd writer you have or a cd/dvd writer0 -
primeramikey - the OP is using Nero.
The easiest way is to use Nero Express, which should be a menu option within Nero from the Windows Start menu. When started, Nero Express asks you what you want to burn. You want Data - Data Disc. On the next screen you then click Add and browse for the files and folders you want to burn. Click Finished when you've added all the files. You then click Next and then Burn.0 -
Hey Chips - where have you been? I might have known you would come to my rescue - again - at some point or another!!!
And ... with clear and precise details of how to go about it, I have finally managed the process. (So easy when you know how.) You are my hero again - wonderful!
PS - And yes primeramikey, I was putting the disk in the correct way, but thanks anyway.0
