I've just had enough of Specsavers to be quite honest. The frames that I pay something like £49 or £59 for are ridiculously basic frames. I was 'assisted' in picking these frames as they'd 'look good with my lenses' only for them to look like jam jar bottoms. The worst thing of all though as described in one of my earlier posts is getting them adjusted; they never seem to do it right no matter how many times they adjust them. I honestly think some of the people that work their are glorified salespeople as some of them do not seem qualified at all or have any experience in adjusting glasses. In total, including my eye test, I paid something like £90 for my glasses and they're not designer or anything like that.
I've learnt my lesson; I'm going to ASDA and I will pick a frame that has a thicker frame round where the lenses are so that even if the lenses are thinner, the frames won't look as basic and will disguise the lenses even more.
EDIT: Hmm, so the lenses I currently have are around 1.60 whereas if I went to ASDA, I'd have to 'Seek advice from the optician' but I'm imagining the lenses would be 1.67 or higher?0 -

Have you been back to Specsavers and told them you are very unhappy with the glasses as they offer a no quibble guarantee.
I noticed in Asda they had some frames that had wide plastic arms with metal fronts but if you look inside there is another band of metal where the lenses go (hope that makes sense!) - I can only describe it as like a step. These are great for higher prescriptions as it hides a lot of the thickness and you cannot see it from the outside.0 -
I see Asda's thinnest lenses are a 1.7, whereas most places thinnest lenses are a 1.74. Is there much differnce in it? I know the difference between 1.67 and 1.74 is easily noticeable.0

My daughter would like some prescription sunglasses do they do these at Asda please?0

Yes they do.
Few months back got my kids normal & sunglasses. Looked in several places but found Specsavers offer the best for cost and range. Offer was free kids sunglasses when buying normal pair. Lots of offers at the moment so shop around.
If you find this useful then “Thanks” always appreciated.
If you think others may benefit from this then please Bump the thread up.0 -
Anyone had good/bad experience at the Peterlee store? I'd be interested to hear any feedback.
Also, the site that you view the frames on doesn't seem to work now?0 -
Quick update, my local ASDA had a sign up saying that the light reactive lenses were now £20 extra per pair rather than £40 and this is valid until the end of August.0

Did any of you find any trouble adjusting from lower to higher index lenses? I was told that my current lenses are 1.60 and that ASDA could do them in a 1.74 but was wondering if there would be any significant changes in my vision that might take some getting used to?0

Picked up 2 pairs of varifocals (designer frames) last weekend. £197 in total (one pair I pay £40 extra to have transition lenses too). Lenses fitted are Shamir InTouch digital - the non-transition pair are 1.74 index and the transition lenses 1.67 index.
My first varifocal prescription and I'm very pleased. Couldn't fault Asda, Crewe. Colleagues at work updated their glasses within last month at a cost of >£300! One colleague only got a single pair for that price. The other got two from Specsavers but still ended up needing a pair of separate VDU glasses as she couldn't see the screen correctly - and that was having bought Specsavers custom lenses.

The index number just means you get thinner lenses so more frame choice. 1.74 is a thinner lens than a 1.60
