75% on the units and 85% on plinth etc? It's a pretty fair price you're getting from Howdens.

Thanks, Doozergirl. I thought it sounded fairly reasonable, so that helps.

10 times better than Wickes kitchens.

    Pricey but worth it

    strange that.

i have some builder friends who use howdens and enjoy the "what % will we get off thsi time" experience.
but last few years they have switched to http://www.benchmarxjoinery.co.uk/ and they sell the same as wickes (all owened by same group) and they tend to like he price and quality more on the benchmark
The orginal post in this thread has a very very slim chance of being about money saving. The post is more than likely to ask a question that google could answer better than any of us.

I have to agree. Benchmarx was originally set up to take on Howdens and the quailty was one area where they wanted to be better. Their pricing is usually pretty similar to Howdens (usually a LITTLE bit less) but you get a better product. The only problem is location, as they aren't all over the place like Howdens...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

  • Yes, I did look at Benchmarx too, but they're down south and I'm up north :( Thanks for the suggestion though. msv
  • The trick is to hang on till the end of October and watch your quote suddenly get cheaper if your local Howdens is struggling to meet their sales target.

October is the company's biggest month and there is a lot of focus and pressure on depots to produce a big sales number.

I would phone them up and ask what price they will give you if you take delivery before the end of next week.
  • A good idea. Thanks.

Of course, the man at Howdens says they've been really busy and are selling loads at the moment  I will wait until next week (really the latest I can leave it, as the building work is going on at the moment - but won't mention that!) and see if I can't knock a bit more off.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. msv
  • Howdens and benchmarx are both a bit pony, IMHO. Neither can touch a company like Crown for a decent kitchen which is only marginally more expensive, or if you really are on a tight budget Kingswood kitchens. You will need to find a dealer that supplies but they do supply anddeliver to any part of the UK. I use https://www.mustardkitchens.co.uk but i am based in London give them a call and they will be able to guide you better on what to look for or who could supply to you whatever your budget. Hope that helps carol x

    Hi Mrsheenpearl60,

Please forgive me if I'm wrong but I think you might work for Mustard Kitchens or have some sort of vested interest in them. Judging by some of your posts on other threads you certainly know a lot more than the average 'kitchen consumer'. If I'm correct I don't think it's right that you are promoting their services and products on this forum without being honest about your position.

Again I apologise if I have got this wrong.

  • Hi CK

No you are indeed wrong, i dont work for Mustard. I have my own Interior Design Company, and over the years i have come to recognise that the vaguaries of kitchen design needs specialist knowledge. You wont ever find me plugging my company mainly because the market I work within isnt budget based. However i will always recommend good companies that i have had good service from in the past. Mustard arent the only company i recommend, but you will often find me posting in the kitchen sections as i get incensed by the lack of honesty that is displayed in that industry. All this 70% discount business is just garbage. i have found these forums useful on a personal level and i post when i see something that i think someone may benefit from.the knowledge i have accrued. people dont just have a choice between Howdens and the like or hard sell from salesmen masquarading as designers that you find with Moben Dolphin Everest et al. I dont come on here that often, i stopped coming on when another 'designer' started trying to big note herself and try to prove she knew more than me everytime i made a post. I am not here to enter in to an 'i know more than you' competition, but if i can pass on some help to someone who needs it, in the same way that i have been helped on here then i will. sorry if that was a genuine question CK and i have got my knickers in a twist over nothing...but it is a monday moning lol Carol x

No problem Carol, thanks for explaining. As I said there was certainly no offence intended by my comments.

Please keep posting as the more people on here that recognise quality rather than a cheap price the better, as far as I am concerned!

    Thanks
