thanks for posting that reply ck, i thought i was going to have to log off here againas the other designer i mentioned who kept trying to get one up on me rather spoiled my enjoyment of this site. I agree with you though good stuff costs...which doesnt mean to say all things that cost are good tho;) carol x0

Any experts here know whether the Tenby or Burford is better at Howdens and how much more one will be than the other?0
-
Hi Jillytb,
I can't answer as to which is 'better', but I can tell you that it seems from the price list that Tenby is about 50% more expensive than Burford. I am fully prepared to be proved wrong by someone else!

Yes I think you are right indeed, thank you.0

How do you get howdens to quote you when their web site states it is for trade only?
Or are you trade?
The reason for the question is that we are in the market for a new kitchen.
Thanks NiallSpending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.0 -
Yes, Howdens is trade only, but as long as you have a tradesman doing the work who has an account with them (as I do), or you are a developer, etc., you get trade prices.
After I told Howdens the name of my tradesman, I dealt with Howdens personally. They came out to measure up and quickly did a design, CAD image and quote (within 24 hours). I went through several redesigns and they were very helpful and patient (!). They gave me an overall figure and told me the % discounts they'd given me. I asked nicely when I went in next and they showed me the item-by-item breakdown so I could see what I was charged for each item. This allowed me to source certain items more cheaply elsewhere.
I ordered today and my kitchen is being delivered tomorrow. My experience has been positive so far (although there are lots of other Howdens threads on here which explore both sides) and hopefully it will continue to be so.
I should make clear that I am in no way affliated to Howdens - this is a personal opinion only.
Feel free to PM if you want.

Niall, just make sure you can trust your builder to buy it for you on your behalf, dont be afraid to ask for more discount and there are lots of howdens traders online too so you could compare with them once you know what you want... I found myself in a position where my trader/builder has not been honest and it looks like he has been doing something dodgy and a "friend" he has at Howdens who would give him the best price for me might be involved,MAKE sure you get your invoice/proof of purchase from your trader mine didnt give it to me and now I need new items Howden dont want to know as Trader closed account the other day after my contact with him and his details along with the transaction details are no longer on Howdens system! Oh and a dishwasher I got for £100 was discounted by 93.3% so the full price for a slimline non branded item would have been almost £1500, so dont fall for it when they say you get huge discounts as this dishwasher costs about this price in many stores and I could have had to Miele dishwashers for Howdens list price, its all very dodgy!!0 -
I would agree that it's best to be aware of the pitfalls of buying from Howdens, but I never even contemplated not dealing direct with Howdens myself, nor did I consider the inflated prices (IMO) of their appliances when I already knew I could get them cheaper elsewhere. After all, it's your money, not your builder's, and jillytb is absolutely right when she mentions her points about asking for more discount and knowing exactly what you are being charged.
I wouldn't say Howdens are dodgy - I would just say you should exercise as much caution as usual when parting with potentially thousands of pounds.
Hope the situation is resolved, jillytb.

They are doing the, we cannot deal with you as my contract is with my trader thing everytime i reveal something else - thanks you MSV, it will all come out in the wash I am sure in the end, they have now found one of the two invoices I have, the second they now say is a duplicate that CREATES a new invoice number, by definition I believe that is a new invoice, also there is a difference of £547.90 between two invoices for the same items, most irregular but now they are saying "cannot help you, data protection" etc, they have already broken it and I have to say there is something very odd going on!
Also their customer services people and the people at the depot have been extremely rude to me, I wouldnt recommend them from this point of view either.
Still there is so much competition out there but the this business is a minefield and open to so much abuse!0 -
For those already with a quote via Howdens get it put through again tomorrow and provided you pay for it by Saturday you will get the current sale prices. Its giving me a saving of some £500 although a bit of a headache on where to store as my fitter can't install for about 3 weeks.0
