Car Smash -- then Stolen!

  • As you already told the RAC I suggest you tell the truth.

Also more than likely the police also logged it.

No, no, I'm not suggesting not telling the truth -- I mean, am I meant to tell anyone specifically? Is there, I dunno, a Barrier-Line or something for people who deal with this stuff, or do I just assume someone will notice?

Yeah, I gave them the full story already.

Any knowledge how how long turnaround is, ....)
I won't be quick. Insurers will want to wait a few weeks to give time for the vehicle to be recovered. Your insurer should be able to advise how long the need to wait. Then they need to process the claim and establish a settlement figure. Of course, if you argue against this, it'll take longer still, but you might get a few extra quid.
Almost forgot -- am I meant to tell anyone I hit the barrier? I mean, I did tell the police in my long babbled explanation but am I meant to track down the owner at all? I have no idea even how to do that, but I dunno if I should.

Probably not. The police have been informed. That should be good enough.

    You tell the truth.

That aside I wouldnt be surprised if the car shows up in the next few days at an impound or such. Most likely it was removed for being in a dangerous position and it simply hasnt hit the systems yet that it is sitting somewere.

Unlikely it's been stolen for scrap I would suggest.
  • Happens quite alot, I had an old nail I used to go to and from the dump in stolen off my drive parked between two quite nice cars. They didn't touch the decent motors as the scrap value was so high it was easy money. Although I know the value's dropped considerably since.

Surely if it were towed ther'd be a report on PNC to say such so the Police would know if it had been towed. Mabe call them back on the off chance it's been delayed going on?

They said they'd called everyone who would be authorised to tow it, so they did seem quite certain it wasn't towed. I've had a call-back half an hour ago for an interview for the details tomorrow, so they do seem to be on top of their stuff.
  • Gutted. I'd have said it'd be on PNC by now if that was the case. Looks to be properly stolen. I hope it either turns up soon or the insurance sort it quickly.
  • My kid sister just helpfully reminded me that the family GPS was in my glovebox. Are contents usually covered in theft?

If its your property then you generally have cover for between £100 and £150 in total, if it belongs to someone else then its probably not covered
  • Yeah, it's mine (I paid for it -- it just tends to go to whoever is most likely to be lost on any specific week).

Trying to remember what else was in there now -- my brain keeps skipping to the stupid things, rather than any expensive ones. Sure my GPS was in there, but so was my NEW PHONE CHARGER and COOLBAG.

Have you remembered your IPOD and state of the art DVD player yet?

I hope you have receipts. I bet every stolen car has GPS now!!
