Car Smash -- then Stolen!

A few days ago I asked about advice for getting a new car, and was pretty much decided on staying with my current one.
Well, apparently the Gods of Transport decided otherwise as on the way to work this morning I took a turn too fast in the rain, skidded and lost control and went into the barrier. My own stupid fault, so after staring in shock for a bit at my newly-smashed light I called the RAC, who advised me they would be two hours and then, as it was off the road, called my boss who took me to the office five minutes away to wait.
Two hours tick by while I call my insurance company. Back out to road where... my car is not. There is a lack of car. Stare at road. Stare at each other. Call local tow services. Call Highways Agency. Call police. My car has not been towed. My car has been stolen. Someone apparently thought an eight year old Suzuki Alto which had been in a crash was worth stealing.
I've called the police, who've given me an incident number and my insurance, who still aren't sure to classify this as one incident or one. I'm still kinda shocky, though thankfully pretty much unhurt. But.. what happens now? What should I expect? I am covered full comp thankfully, but I just don;t exactly know what happens now.

I'm no help, sorry, but.... :rotfl:0 -

Oh, it's fine. At this point I'm caught between crying and hysterical laughter myself. It feels like some Family Guy or Simpsons ep where things have to just keep getting worse.
I'm expecting the call any minute now from the police who will clearly find it, and think it's not so bad until it BURSTS INTO FLAMES or something.0 -
that would of had an immobiliser i think
did you leave the keys in it?0 -
Just tell your insurers what happened ... all of it (because whoever owns the barrier you hit might be wanting some compo).
If the car is not recovered, you'll eventually be made an offer by your insurers as it it's value."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Nope. Keys are in my pocket still -- I actually had a moment of walking away from the car with them still there (again, due to shock) and then turning back, grabbing keys and handbag and locking the car.
Police reckon it might have been pinched for scrap metal, and I suppose no-one's going to question anyone hooking up a car like that to be towed.0 -

Yeah, I gave them the full story already.
Any knowledge how how long turnaround is, and how much I'm likely to be looking at? I'm stuck on public transport til then as while my insurance covers hire-cars after accidents it does not for theft. (And an accident BEFORE a theft apparently doesn't count. Dammit.)0 -

Almost forgot -- am I meant to tell anyone I hit the barrier? I mean, I did tell the police in my long babbled explanation but am I meant to track down the owner at all? I have no idea even how to do that, but I dunno if I should.0 -

This actually happened to a friend of mine, he had arranged to have his car taken away as it had been in a bump, he comes home from work and finds it gone, he calls the breakers yard to ask what to do with the paper work, they said they would complete it when they picked the car up tomorrow!0 -

I would challenge your insurers on that one, that doesn't seem fair to me.0 -

As you already told the RAC I suggest you tell the truth.
Also more than likely the police also logged it.Not Again0
