What you have to be careful of is these fellas masquerading as joiners who have no qualifications and are thus just labourers on the minimum wage.
I'd not pay more than £10 per hour for a skilled worker to fit a loft ladder and I'd want a guarantee as well.
Beware of the "cowboys" out there!
If £400 a week is the maximum you're willing to pay any one, it looks like you'll be employing one of them labourers to do your 'skilled' jobs then!
    In wood we trust.

Absolute S**t. Firstly a good labourer is on much more than the minimum wage.

Secondly, how many 'fellas' do you think are going to turn up on a job and charge minimum wage?

If you get a job done and are happy with the result what does it matter if it was done by a labourer or a 'skilled worker'?

If you pay £10 per hour you will get a 'fella' who has no qualifications, insurances, experience and his guarantee will be worth nothing. It'd be a cash in hand job too no doubt.

Tradesman A quotes 3 hours work @ £10 per hour.
Tradesman B quotes £30 for the job not per hour.

Would you feel conned if tradesman B takes only an hour to do the job?

    Hello
I came across this old thread about having a loft ladder fitted as I myself was hoping to get one installed before Christmas 2010 so that I could store the kids presents in the loft. After much searching I came across a company based in Glasgow in Scotland who ended up coming out to my house in Ayr.They supplied and fitted a great aluminium ladder for only £80 all in.
I'm not sure what areas they cover, their website is loftladdersglasgow.co.uk

    spam????????

We live in Lancaster. OH is a joiner and he would charge around this for a job like this. It seems fair to me.
    Good luck

  • A basic 2 part Alu loft ladder inc handrail supplied and fitted from £89.00.
£89.00 if it fits straight in and if your existing hatch board is suitable to hinge/fix, and most houses will (60%).
Extra costs for alterations when existing loft opening is either to small or poor entering clearance/side, it will needs opening/trimming out or even re locating to another room/hall.
so £89 straight in, £110/120 with a few alterations(Good ave guide price) and then just under £500 for relocating hatch. (inc overboarding existing, plastering and making good)
